  • I love Lea!

  • JUDY KUHN HAS THE BEST VERSION!!

  • whoa. def my fave performance of this song so far. im auditioning for eponine from les mis in my theatre companys production of it this spring, and im using someone elses story as my audition song. its been hard to try to get down the right facial expressions when singing the song, but im gunna study off of this video and steal a bit of technique from salonga. she does it perfectly imo. :)

  • LEA SALONGA is AMAZING but Kerry Ellis' version was much more emotion filled and vibrant.

  • is this song available to buy on Itunes? It is so beautiful

  • Very difficult song to carry from Chess.. both in range and in emotion. Well done by Ms. Salonga@

  • i love her version! is she chinese?

  • @danicash80 SHE'S FILIPINO. FILIPINOS ARE AWESOME! FILIPINO PRIDE!

  • this is perfection..

  • I wish I had a quarter of Lea Salonga's talent.

    simple perfection.

  • @ocanna92 Who's flat you? Lol

  • it's really good...i just wished that halfway over the middle section, it went a little faster so that it had a build up....

  • Very very good. I am a big fan of Benny and Bjorn's music and adore Helen Sjoholm and Judy Khum performing this song, but this is sheer class too. And what a wonderful arrangement as well. Benny and Bjorn would be proud.

  • Salonga and Sjoholm? Voice quality? Emotional rendition? Incomparable. Salonga hands-down.

  • @janofdelft HelenWho? Lol.

  • To kca1988: "Just serviceable on this"!!! I must have been listening to a different recording! Absolutely beautiful rendition and injects such poignancy into the song. Brilliant!

  • Im Singing this for audition. :)

  • it is so beautiful I adore the tone of Lea's voice so emotive and powerful, yet pure at the same time. it is a unique talent what a incredible gift

  • Lea is amazing, what a voice!

  • doobeedoo58 = bethmcshane (ElizabethWho?). Don't use another singer (and negatively at that) to promote yourself. Troll.

  • @af2un doobeedoo58 and I are not the same people. I only learned of him/her when he commented on my video, which brought me here...... It's really a shame that this has turned into such a controversy. One I never asked for, btw....As I stated before, I consider Lea's version of this song better than my rendition on YouTube. End of Story..... (Someone Else's :)

  • @bethmcshane It's a shame dbd58 dragged your name into this. His hatred for Salonga is quite obvious. I did see your version and you're very good and as you stated, Salonga's version is superb. I hope you didn't take the sniping towards you personally as they are really aimed at dbd58. Peace...

  • I am so moved by this perfect performance !

  • i wish i was her. wow.

  • Elizabeth who? Miss Oregon 1993? She won't be able to give Lea a run for her money. She'd be a grandma by now. Won't even be able to run! Ha ha ha ha ha!

  • @doobeedoo58 Are you mental? She has the best pitch of anyone. You are deaf.

  • @Veniola The deaf doobeedoo58 is criticizing Salonga to push for someone else. Obviously a desperate user...

  • @archieanders Now that's just sad. The poor dear can't appreciate good music. :(

  • I love her.

  • wow.

  • Love her vibrato -- and her ability to carry the emotions across even if she's not performing on a Broadway stage in costume and in character. Such a talented lady!

  • I've had the Chess CD for awhile, but didn't appreciate this song until I heard Lea Salonga sing it. Her singing has a strong reach on people!

  • @mdiamse: I noticed that, too. KerryWho?(TM) sounds squeaky. And old. But so does HelenWho?(TM). I hope their fans here realize how ridiculous they are daring to compare their performances with Lea's! Ha ha ha!

  • @barredowl24: Good advice. Here's a better one, though: This is a LEA SALONGA video, so die-hard fans of the UNTALENTED with UGLY VOICES KerryWho?(TM), SuttonWho?(TM), and HelenWho?(TM) need to stop dragging the names of their UNTALENTED with UGLY VOICES idols in this video. Lol!

  • Children, please! Can't we all get along? Lea, Sutton, and Kerry are all incredible talents who bring their own unique perspective to the song. What's the sense in debating which is better? They're all good. If you don't like it, don't listen... but let's not criticize someone's talent just because we feel someone else does it better. Just enjoy the music and leave the useless debates to Faux News and politicians.

  • What I like about Salonga is that in addition to her powerful and very beautiful voice, when she sings, she tells a story. There's always something beneath the surface. Her singing touches you. So much unlike Kerry Who(TM) and Sutton Who(TM). You guys are so funny, @aaprato and @mdiamse!

  • @joshgardell I think Sutton tells a pretty good story. Not the emotional roller coaster Lea takes you on, but I wouldn't hate on Sutton's, it's quite good. Kerry is another story.....

  • @aaprato: lol! Kerry Who(TM) and Sutton Who(TM) don't hold a candle to Lea Salonga. Kerry Who has a SQUEAKY (my pet peeve) and old-sounding voice (imagine a 90-year old perofrming in a role for a 20 year-old), while Sutton Who has underdeveloped vocal technique. These people who compare Salonga with them are tone-deaf! Ha ha ha!

  • @mdiamse: LOL! Kerry Who? Sutton Who?

  • Puh-leez! Don't insult Lea Salonga by mentioning actresses who are BENEATH her in the same sentence!

  • I don't like these people who keep bringing up Kerry Ellis' name in other people's videos. As in those many Wicked videos of Idina Menzel and other actresses, my favorite Kerry gets unnecessarily shredded into pieces! I LOVE Lea Salonga and don't need to compare her to other actresses.

  • i love the meaning of the song

  • Singing this my music coursework.... wish I could sing it anywhere near as well as her!

  • She has such a wonderful voice! She touches me everytime again.

  • i harassed the replay button, sorry.

  • SMOKE.

  • She gives original Broadway cast member Judy Kuhn a run for her money in this song. Come to think of it. I love Lea's version of Colors Of The Wind more than that of the original, Judy Kuhn.

  • What key does she sing this in?

  • i am so touched by this song and its rendition. bravo!

  • woah

  • So beautiful in more than one way!! : ) I have embarrassingly attached a video. I only hope you will be so kind as to visit my page and listen to a few lea salonga songs I have "tried" lol. I hope you will comment since I hope to improve! : )

  • GORGEOUS

  • oh my word. incredible. she is so blessed with a voice of pure perfection!

  • ACT WOMAN

  • wow ! i love this!!! thanks!!!

  • hands down best version ever!!! xxx

  • love you lea..

  • I would listen to Lea sing the phone book.

    Backwards.

  • @justtim Me too!!! :-D

  • i really like this song. i so can relate to it. bravo lea! :)

  • wow her tone blows me away it's so beautiful

  • I am so jealous of her tone. GAHHH AMAZING

  • Lea is one of the most amazing singers. I love her!!

  • just amazing!!!

  • Simlpy beuatiful !!!!!

  • is this the original key? if not can someone tell me the key??

  • @zsmores244 The original key is Gb Major if you still need it.

  • oh dear she went sharp on the last note for a sec there! =O

  • just beautifully sung....

  • Gyönyörű.....beautiful Üdv. Feri.

  • ... whoa. that's absolutely stunning.

why do i have shivers? ... oh yeah!! its cuz she's amazing!

  • Lea Salonga is such a wonderful singer; in the 10th anniversery of Les Mis - she is simply stunning as Eponine..

this song is beautiful in her voice, now I really want to sing it too! =P

  • This is awesome! She definitely has a very strong and beautiful voice!

  • Lea Salonga is a wonderful singer, both LIVE and on recordings. She has a gifted voice, and she 'gets' the songs, alright.

However, I just like 'hearing' her; not 'watching' her. There's something about her facial expressions that I cannot empathize with (sigh!). Perhaps it has to do with looking more and more like Neve Campbell.

This video, is quite an exception. She is actually like-able here.

  • bautiful voice!

  • i think lea salonga is amazing but i must admit i prefer kerry ellis' version of this song by quite a bit!

  • God she rules.

  • angelic voice!

  • I love lea, she's great. but i strongly believe that she uses excessive vibrato.

  • YOU FOOL!!! JARED!!

  • Very beautiful rendition. Amazing.

  • lea's version is so inocent and heartfelt i almost cry listening on cd of this concert.she had a better version than of kerry ellis and judy khun .bring this great girl back on broadway!

  • THERES A CD OF THIS?!?! i need it D:

  • A DVD... Lea Salonga...The Broadway Concert...Shot in the Philippines... You might be able to find one on Amazon

  • seen it hundreds times, still love it

  • "Lea Salonga" is almost "Turanga Leela" hehe

  • I love her. -sigh- :)

  • you're dead wrong on your last statement. it is in fact the opposite. lea is well-known in the theater world as having this angelic,crystal-clear , full-tone voice thats a pleasure to listen to. she's a broadway elite & have quite an impressive body of work to her credit. she's even a disney princess twice over if u know what i mean.

  • Comment removed

  • @ovitatirac ...it only meant that lea sang the song very well...am i right boyfling?

  • @ovitatirac i agree with you!!!!! lea is just marvelous......

  • @ovitatirac completly agree with you. what princesses did she play

  • @musicalmad1996 singing voice of princess jasmine (aladdin) and mulan :D

  • @ovitatirac twice? i know she was mulan. when was the other time (i should be ashamed for asking this. and i call myself a disney fan : )

  • @theatergeeksjk24601 She is Jasmine, from Alladin :)

  • who do you think you are?

  • Nicely done *clappity clap clap* Love that song, favorite from Chess. Easy pick, but sometimes the right choice is easy to see.

  • awesome

  • Helen Sjöholm does this better !

  • Absolutely maganda - the woman and song.

  • Love Lea. No one ever holds "twice" for 3 counts as written. I'm in a quibbling mood. :]

  • great voice, great interpretation

    bravo Lea from italyl

  • anyone know the story behind this song? the lyrics?

  • This is from the musical Chess. A great Cold War/star-crossed lovers story and some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard in a Broadway play. It no longer runs and is hard to find videos of, but you can read the synopsis on Wikipedia. The music was so popular when the play debuted that some of the songs topped the billboard charts. You might end up recognizing some other songs.

  • it is still playing in u.k... its on tour, its chess in concert which is being performed across the u.k :)

  • There is a concert version from 2008 that is definitely worth seeing.

  • actually, chess is totally on DVD now!!! with adam pascal, josh groban, and idina!!! whoo!!! its pretty good :D

  • Comment removed

  • The song is from the musical "Chess". It's written by Björn Ulveaus, Benny Andersson and Tim Rice ;)

  • ANYBODY know what this song is talking about? what is the story behind it?

  • Comment removed

  • According to music critics, if Lea sings a song, you can say THAT THE SONG HAS BEEN SUNG!

  • I'd Tell HER that for free.... HER

  • I'd tell HER that for free... HER

  • you mean sharp

  • i agree w/ Felicity, it's just a matter of taste & opinion really. i like helen's version for she has a nice singing voice no doubt... but i like lea's more simply bec. lea has this sweeter, angelic tone in her voice. no wonder that lea's resume. body of works is much more impressive than helen's... now, that is my opinion!

  • What a load of bunckum. How can you over train a voice??? As you said it was sung in a long running production. Take a look at this video.......It's a one off show and songs were taken from different productions. As an independent performer of those songs, in my opinion....she takes some beating!!!

As I have said ' IN MY OPINION'.

  • hey there... I dunno much bout all that but you can over train voice

  • Ok, if you say a voice can be over trained, then I will have to believe you because I am not an expert on the matter. I can only go by what I am hearing and if I was listening to them all on CD or the radio etc, I know who's singing voice I would prefer. If I wanted to watch emotion and acting, I would go and watch a play:) If Lea's voice is evidence of over training, then a lot of singers had better get back in training to try and reach the same stage :)

  • douchehater: I wouldn't go to say that Lea's version is full of artifice. She's just a good singer, and if you've heard her sing "On My Own", or seen in Miss Saigon you'd hardly say her interpretations are soulless.

ovitatirac: Helen's resume may be smaller, but she's in a relatively unknown country. Add the fact that musical singers aren't popular singers and that makes her virtually unknown. But she's been in good works too: Kristina, Chess, My Fair Lady. She also sings folk and pop songs.

  • All I'm going to say, since there's a huge argument here, is that both Helen and Lea are good in their own ways. Most of it's just a matter of preference, so don't flame someone who likes Lea or vice versa. You might not understand why someone likes this person, but just say, "I don't understand it" and leave it at that. Everyone has the right to their own opinion.

  • although a lot of singers have sung this song with their beautiful voices this is so far the most soulfull! so expressive! she didn't just sang the song, she became the character in the musical.

  • Lea's voice is absolutely flawless-- love her singing one of my favorite Mezzo Soprano showtunes of all time! Beautiful...

  • after not hearing this song for like 4 years it's just that much more powerful and beautful

  • i could watch this over and over and not get tired of it. lea = perfection.

  • f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c! superb voice

  • ...i wish i can hear you sing in person! i love all your songs ...you are my fave singer of all time! ... luv u LEA!!! i'm so proud of you...

  • i was in the crowd here...lea is truly one talented Filipino artist!

  • she really sings w/ emotion, very pretty voice to go with it too.

  • Close your eyes and listen to her....her voice carries you to the realm of emotion the song depicts...clearly you do ont know a damn thing about music. I'm ot a Broadway snob...but when a voice swells in my chest and carries the orchestration...that is emotion. Miss Lea is emotional in all her preformances even without seeing her actions....she is fantastic.

  • I believe to waht Peggers1980 said, Alexis 7263.

  • lea salonga is the pride of filipino music industry. especially when she played kim in miss saigon! she is the best! i love the way she sung every song...I love her version as well of on omy own for les miserables
