@genedandy : Thanks. Neck self-mobilisation or even self-adjustment is too dangerous. I do not recommend it, any manufacturer of such a device should prepare for a ton of liability and legal problems. Lower back is safe though.
Please explain to all of these people why exactly you call it an "adjustment". There is no such thing. If our vertebrae "adjusted" we would all be in trouble. If you think otherwise, please show me evidence of a vertebrae before and after treatment actually moving. Its a mechanical response from the JOINT people. Please dont be lead to thinking that your back adjusts... The term needs to be removed from chiropractic vernacular.
@guitarpro23 : The issue is controversial I admit. While I have also learnt that no physical 'spinal misalginment' exists, I personally have strong evidence that this is the case. Patients are referred to me with scintigraphy and MRI images showing singular facet joint inflammation and edema which correlated to my clinical findings. Maybe our imaging means lack sufficient resolution to prove it yet (=unspecific back pain) but I don't believe that there is no physical evidence behind it all.
@guitarpro23 : In chiropractic and osteopathic medicine our own sensory and tactile diagnostic abilities are more important than fancy and expensive medical imaging methods. Ask an osteopath why she thinks she is right and you will get the strangest answers, same with TCM and acupuncture. But these systems all work even though 'science' and 'school medicine' have yet to make it 'evidence based'. Also, it is not important what you call things as long as they work properly. Whoever heals is right.
This is not self-adjustment. It's self-stretching. It's a good machine for stretching the lower back, but it is not an adjustment. Adjustments or manipulations done by a chiropractor is a split-second, very precise movement. The fact that it is very rapid is actually what engages the body's own responses that help regain mobility in the joint. Stretching is important, but not before a proper adjustment has been made.
@Septimius : I would agree that it is not a chiropractic manipulation but rather a stretching and with increasing force a very effective means of lumbar self-mobilization which can result in a successful adjustment should any lumbar spinal or SI-joints be in a misaligned position. From my own experience adjustments can be achieved with or without fast chiropractic impulses otherwise mankind would not be able to survive without chiropractors. But slower is always safer.
@CHIROTRACTOR Saying mankind has always needed chiropractors is like saying we've always had this inactive lifestyle. Not using our bodies enough and when we use them using them wrong is the number one reason why the world needs chiropractors. I agree that there is a point in stretching, but it being a 'chirotractor'.....
@Septimius: I think you misunderstood. The human body can usually self-adjust itself providing sufficient physical activity like running etc. So HVLI chiropractic moves are not necessary. That's why the CT-L will also help self-adjusting the lower back. The point is that most people today sit all day, are overweight and have shortened muscles/tendons/soft tissue making it more difficult for the body to regulate functional disorders by itself. So the CT-L can be helpful, chiropractors of course too.
@nicksypixy : Even though development und production costs would justify an even higher price, we have lowered it to 4800 € in Europe or 4800 US$ world wide (plus shipping). It is a device to be used in a professional health related environment and not for home use. An initial instruction by a trainer or therapist is mandatory in order to ensure effectiveness and prevent harm to the user due to incorrect execution of the procedure.
i think it is a rather good comparison. times are changing, the budgets are tight in most health care systems and it is right to give innovations a chance to prove itself. people critizing this device really fear the loss of their own proclaimed competence monopoly. telephone companies will be unnecessary soon since web based communication will get all the business...
This might be considered "self-manipulation", but certainly not self adjustment. Adjustments are short-lever specific. This is a long-lever non-specific stretch. The most common joints to move in this type of action is going to be the already-too-movable (hyper-mobile) joints. The true subluxations (joints which actually need to be moved) won't be moved.
Nice try, but this is not healthy for spinal health.
@alphaditto : It is correct that no high velocity low amplitude maneuver is performed. Technically correct we would call it 'lower back mobilization', the result however is identical to a HVLA procedure and safer due to self control by the user. I have invented and successfully tested the device in my own orthopedic/chiropractic practice. Independently, a small study with 48 persons was conducted with success rates > 90%. I understand the criticism and scepticism but will not replace testing it.
@jonesgazza : Since the user is in total control, the slightest uncomfortable sensation (=self protection reflex) will cause the user to discontinue the exercise. Thus, it is very safe.
@Amalioji2 : Not with this slow and controlled movement. It is the same movement that tennis and golf players do in every game or practice. If have seen dangerous maneuvers from chiropractors on youtube where the patient is really potentially harmed. Not with this device. Try it and you will be able to tell the difference.
@Amalioji2 : This is not true due to the slow speed and pain reflexes by the user. Ask tennis players and golf players if they would stop playing their sport if they knew how they risk their sharpey fibers with their rapid high force torso rotations.
I just lean over the edge of my bed in the morning, I discovered it on my own after finding out my sacroiliac joint is "unlocked" (unaligned). Every morning I just carefully grab the edge of my bed and roll my knees over like the video remembering to hang on lol. Then again Im only 21 so some people might not be able to do this...
@brooklyntx : You are absolutely right. Another possibility is a vertical self adjustment e.g. using a door frame. For many people though, this might be too complicated, so in a health club environment, the CT-L would be very useful since it is easy to use. Obese and very muscular people will have problems mobilizing themselves, all others can learn how to do it.
I love my chiropractor. He fixes me up every 2 months and I don't have to spend a fortune on dangerous drugs that simply mask the problems. Chiropractic treatment works.
@ttzearly: As MD,DC and orthopaedic I can confirm that there is no HVLA force being applied here. In my oppinion HVLA maneuvers should be avoided if possible. The CT-L will not address specific segments but rather the complete lower back and lower thoracic spine. It also stretches the gluts and lumbar muscles.
@CHIROTRACTOR This will induce a rotatory force into the discs of the lumbar spine and induce annular tears leading to problems down the road. Patient will only feel "relief" from the endorphin release, this corrects not actual problem but only creates them. One of these times a person is going to use this and really hurt themselves. This is by all means , not "Safe".
@fjtubie : More physical activity or sports will self-adjust locked joints naturally. But unfortunately, most people are too lazy to even walk a few hundred yards everyday. Going to the gym twice a week using the CT-L followed by back strenghtening exercises is the next best thing. Doctors come into play when problems constantly reoccur and the main cause has to be found. Most times it's good that the nervous system is functioning, in cases of chronic pain it's not.
@fjtubie you obviously lack one important thing...intelligence. Of course a problem can come back. It was there a whole lot longer then it was corrected. Muscle memory kicks in and the person comes back in a month or 6 weeks for a realignment. You don't restore a car once and never wax it again. You don't wear braces and then don't do a retainer. Crooks??? ok, then you go and do a medical route of drugs and stretching and see what happens. Drugs to 2 things, inhibit & stimulate. That's it!
A true chiropractic lumbar spine adjustment is primarily a posterior to anterior force (back to front) which is a safe and effective motion to release fixation in the spine. This machine causes a large degree of torsion forces in the lumbar spine. The intervertebral discs are highly susceptible to damage from torsion forces. I would not recommend using this machine for anything. I am a licensed DC.
@oiffer:The device avoids high velocity movements that for example occur in common movements during different types of sports like tennis/golf.Watching some chiropractor videos on YouTube I would think that the risk of harming one's disks is even higher during some chiropractor's therapy. The excessive adjustments with too much force will eventually lead to disk damage not the use of the CT-L, which is in constant control of the user. The CT-L might indeed take away business from chiropractors.
@Iroxit : The forces between a chiropractic and the CT-L maneuver are identical (logically), the difference is that the CT-L user has full control over this maneuver whereas as a patient she doesn't. The forces are not critical but the speed. Stretch a muscle slowly (even with high forces) and it will be be beneficial to it. Do the same within a split of a second and you will damage it. I went to medical school, surgical and chiropractric training and I know the basics of physics. Think first.
@420BurnaBlunt : This machine is not designed for home use but rather for use in health clubs and gyms. It is cheaper to be a member of a health club than to buy all machines. The lower back mobilization is not easy to replicate by other means without assistance. The costs of a club membership have to be compared to those of a doctor's or chiropractor's visit and treatment. People will change their negative attitude quickly once they have tried the CHIROTRACTOR CT-L themselves.
@010steveo : I hope that this machine will gain popularity within the next two years. It does have the potential to become a standard work-out back-exercise device.
