The crest is a separate piece that was bondoed on top of the original helmet to hold the hair, the Mohawk is all hand-laid horse hair. Once all the hair is installed I straighten it with a comb, and with a combination of hairspray and 3M glue to get it to stand up right. Once its dried its all dyed back to flat black and sealed up with a clear spray.
Hey, nice helmet, I loved it man, about the Plume, I am trying to put one on my motorcycle helmet, can you help me out, like where to get it from, and how to get started, thanks, for the inspiring video.
It was all hand laid horse hair. Meticulously trimmed in bunched and glued in by and with a got glue gun. Usually take me a couple days to get everything in there and then straight the hair and treat it so it stands up straight.
@newindianajones1 The crest is a separate piece of gelcoat and fiberglass resin made from a sculpt I did over the existing helmet and then molded it. The crest is then trimmed out once casted and Bondo(ed) into place.
shell of plastic for 300$??????? what fucking child painted them and smoothed the f.glass, what resin is used? the finish and texture is that of my ball sack, i have made better projects out of Papier-mâché ffs.
no offence but thats a rip off, i saw a real steel and bronze perfect authentic replica leonidas helmet with satnd and certificate of authenticity from frank miller for 360 bucks, but its a cool helmet
By chance do you have a link to this. All the steal and "authentic" helmets on the market are absolute garbage. I did a ton of research before I sculpted this helmet because everything on the market was very inaccurate. I think you may be confused because all the steal Leonidas helmet on the market today are very inaccurate and lack a ton of details.
Clean finished versions (beginning of movie) run $300.00
and battle damaged like the helmet in the video are $325.00
I also sell raw castings for $180.00, but they do not include any horse hair and the crest piece will need to be attached by the customer along with all other trimming and finishing of the helmet.
yeah the crest? did you make it or buy it seperate?
MrHairyMonkeys 1 month ago
@MrHairyMonkeys
Yes the helmet and crest are two separate molds, bondo together.
timallen27 1 month ago
@MrHairyMonkeys I made the crest. It was sculpted specially over my helmet and then molded and bondo back together for a secure fit.
timallen27 1 month ago
how did you make the crest at the top to hold the fur?
MrHairyMonkeys 1 month ago
@MrHairyMonkeys
The crest? or the Mohawk?

Yes they are fairly strong, these particular helmets are made of fiberglass so they are light but yet durable,
