  • its a good pic before post-processing but u couldve eliminated alot of time if u just used a polarizing filter...i kno you guys are against filters and all but they can have some benefit especially in situations like this

  • CLOUDY ALWAYS!!

  • hahaha he sounds drunk

  • this was a huge help, thanks!

  • so is this about editing or the type of camera used ?

  • first thing is white balance.....would any camera change white balance being first ? ummmmm.......NOOOO...lmao

  • so you tell me...is the problem the D3X or something else ? shouldnt MOST pics be OK when shot ? EVERYTHING is legit post pic.....whats the difference with a d3X and a D300 when ALL adjustments can be made post pic........

  • Seth Rogen, hell yeah : -)

  • Great video, as always. I just recently acquired LR3, and am switching to, and shooting completely in, RAW now. Honestly, the only reason I wasn't before is because I didn't have LR or PS, I was using GIMP, and GIMP doesn't handle RAW...well, at least not Sony's RAW (.ARW).

Anyway, great vid, thanks for the tips. I'm definitely going to start using that graduated filter, as well as the little color-select tool you used to adjust the blues in the sky. VERY cool.

  • I love this comment "It's either your d3x suck or you just don't know how to take good photos. I hate it when photographers relies too much on post-processing."

Obviously they do not shoot Raw photos..........but want to sound like they know what's up.....

Raw photo is like a canvas with a rough outline on it

JPG is a paint by numbers picture

I could be wrong because i am just an amature photorgrapher................

    Excellent video...

  • @fableblue2010 Counldn't agree more. You get a nice flat image that you can change pixel-by-pixel. RAW is where it's at.

  • Great video! That helped me out a lot thanks!

  • You gave me the push to buy my first SLR, and now i cant live without my camera, love your videos. Subscribed.

  • I wanna make it out to Vegas!

  • Hi, I subscribed at your video. My question is I am using Lightroom 3, how do you edit a bunch of photo at the same time for example 10 or 20 photos they are almost at the same level of darkness or light I want to edit them at once to save time.

If anybody knows how to do it please email me at happycanada57@gmail.com

    Thank you very much

  • great video...!! :)

  • It's either your d3x suck or you just don't know how to take good photos. I hate it when photographers relies too much on post-processing. You could have fix the photo more on your camera. Looking at the orig photo I can't believe it was shot by a d3x.

  • @maynotbe its a tutorial...obviously needs to be bad to show what can be done, plus why are you even here if you hate post processing...ps pros use canon!

  • @JuJu38DD Only rank amateurs are using Canon these days. . .get with it. .

  • @JuJu38DD Well, that starting picture wasn't "bad" per say, it was just in RAW. Which means it was uncompressed and the camera did zero processing/conversion to JPEG. But I agree, people who hate post processing aren't photographers, they're snap-shot-ographers.

  • I told my wife he sounds like seth rogan this morning

  • he sounds like seth rogan

  • thank you very much , suscribed and added you're site to my favorite , easy and simple to understand nice job, appreciated !

  • Jared plzz teach how to save pics in lightroom

  • @danibedesjohn just go to file and click export <3

  • If there was an ND filter during the actual shooting, you could save a little bit of time in the PP, am i right?

  • nice but were can i get a free lightroom software???? i need one.!

  • @kingdomheartsx94 dowload a trial?

  • @kingdomheartsx94 Sub To my channel if you want it free and i will make a video in minutes it is for mac

I just bought it after this video and i can geave you another serial I have

  • MPLOUSOMOURIA... POU SOU VAZEI H GKOMENA KWLODAXTYLO...

  • ANTE A MALAKA....

  • "wow you must have a great camera!" i was expecting him to say well i actually shot this with a nikon d3000 -__-

  • Did you have any filters on the lens? UV/PL etc and did you use a tripod? The original pic looks like it was taken with a Wal-Mart disposable camera...??

  • Thanks mr. Fro.

Great tutorial, I sure will check the other ones out.

  • Hy can anyone tell me why I cant open a RAW file with LR ? the pic was taken with my nikon D3100 .. and it sayes it doesnt recognise the file and cant open it .. TY

  • @paiverde download the update from adobe, i had to do the same

  • @shaneramoutar i need to do the same thing. but which update???

  • @abybryan adobe.cxoxm/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5110&fileID=4749

^ if you on a mac, otherwise the update is called camera raw 6.4.1 update.

  • what's the differences between Exposure and Brightness?

  • Thanks for sharing your knowledge, by the way what kind of lens you are using on this kind of picture? thanks

  • what is the main difference pf ps and lightroom ... ??

  • What do you use to record your screen??

  • Thanks so much, I just purchased Lightroom 3 and it's still getting shipped! But I was wondering some different things Lightroom could do, and this video answered the questions I had. So thanks! :)

  • The lesson is great.

I am worried if 8000$ body Nikon DX3 24 MP full frame takes a bland shot and a LR3 fixes, what I am paying for.

  • Great job ...since I have the program it's fun for me to creat special pictures !!!

  • It sounds like you're making love with this photograph :D.

    Nice tutorial anyways ;)

  • Get lightroom for mac free - youtube search

  • the first image was very shity if it was a 11,000 dolar cam (aprox..)

  • i tried Adobe Lightroom...but then i found Raw Therapee and Gimp :D

  • I have Adobe Camera RAW...I don't know which ones better ACR Or LR?

  • @KastroThaDon They're essentially the same exact thing. ACR might have some more adjustment features with brushes and stuff... but I don't have LR I'm just guessing based on this video.

  • @Barronlroth Thanks

  • Just a hair....

  • downloaded this off vuze.

  • so how did the original photo end up looking so crap on a d3x?

  • @MYTRB because a very mild photograph with hardly any contrast is way easier to edit. You want to get a possibly nature real look to edit and the original does look more like something you see in nature.

  • How does this compare to corel paintshop photo pro x3 or photoshop elements 9

  • Nikon D3X FX D-SLR 24-Megapixel Camera ? $7,999.95 ? o.O

  • how do you save a picture in a different format?

  • @ShtefT convert. in LR you have to EXPORT and choose a format

  • Woah, I think your the first photographer I've ever seen who uses Windows, good on ya'. I prefer Windows.

  • can you make the whole picture black and white and then just make one thing color like lets say in a portrait i want to make the background B&W and only the subject in color can i do that with LR3? if yes how?

  • @andrademeza I'm not sure if you can do that in LR but you can use 2 layers and masks in Photoshop CS5 and make everything BW except the face.

  • Good video ....helpful. thank you

  • Great video. Thank you for sharing the tip

adobe is giving away free Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.4 release candidate until end of May, just google it.

  • Great vid, very helpful! Thanks :)

  • At 1:53 when he says "like I said" he sounds like Seth Rogen.

  • @asa31191 he sounds like rogen periodically throughout the tutorial

  • @asa31191 he sounds like rogen periodically throughout the tutorial

  • I have enjoyed your production. I need to get to post. A nice tuttorial I had to tell...regards...O

  • That thingy is a target adjustment slider- yw

  • where do raw files come from? when i upload photos to my computer they come out as JPEG

  • @nerdsneedmoney (semi)proffesional photo cameras

  • @nerdsneedmoney What camera are you using?

  • Awesome video, so helpful. I just purchased lightroom, and this was a great intro video to get me going! Keep up the good work!!

  • what's the difference between Adobe Lightroom and Adobe photoshop cs3?

  • yes the education maybe cheaper but you have to prove that you're either a student of 2 or more years or a teacher, unless you're both it's £214 in the uk

  • thanks alot man subed, really appretiate the clearity and everything and how easy it was to do such an amazing thing, thanks alot!

  • nice!! thanks, thats a great picture!

  • Great video!

  • heres a question hope it gets answeard. When i develop my pictures and then i export them to get saved they get saved as jpegs but with only 6.24MB is the quality being reduced or somthign cus my raw pics are all 10MB

  • i just got lightroom so i am really new to all of this but for the drop down menu i didnt have thoses same settings, i only had custom, auto, and as shot. why is that?

  • I'm a little alergic to brightening areas in a photograph, the bright areas can look artificial.

  • awesome video

  • You changed the image so many times that I could not see a clear workflow.

  • that picutre was beautifully tweaked ! thanks for the post, it really did help...

one question, how did you become fimiliar with the software, other than discovering it by playing around?

    again GREAT job!

  • nice job thankyou Greg Lorraine

  • you have the most monotone voice ever

  • most annoying voice ever heard :D

  • Hi, JaredPolin...love your introduction! I use Lightroom and I love it...but the problme is , hat I cant import RAW files to the Lightroom....the program cant read it! How do you import RAW files to the Lightroom????? I use Windows Expl....

  • @amulet17

You can import RAW files to LR. If you have one of the newer cameras you may need to download the Adobe camera raw update in order for LR to open the RAW files.

  • what lens did you use? if any

  • @itsthebenjaminnn he says it in the video... ><" common man

  • @idreamtofflight take it easy ><

  • @itsthebenjaminnn he says it is the 14-24 2.8 in the video come on....

  • @hockeyb213 take it easy

  • Fantastic work!

  • Who do you use to print?

  • I' thinking about getting adobes Lightroom 3, while researching I found an ebay seller who sells the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Educational for 150$, but I'm not sure what that EDUCATIONAL means because it's so cheap.

    The item is new BTW

    hope you can help me

  • @Spaeckli you can get the education lightroom for 99 bucks form adobe direct.

  • @Spaeckli download it to avaxhome.ws youll get it free...

  • @Spaeckli don't buy it, it just means you have to be a student to use it but you can get it for 89.99 on bestbuy.com proof of student status mandatory

  • @Spaeckli I've researched the business of Adobe 'Teachers and Students' version - you basically have to prove to Adobe that you are a student... ...it's in their terms; look up adobe cs5 teacher and student version on Amazon and click 'eligibility conditions'.

  • @Spaeckli

educational simply means you pay less. it's still the full software, you just need to send a picture of documents proving your enrolment in a school, college or university

  • @Spaeckli You can get the Studen/Teacher Edition from Amazon for $79

  • @cyndithoj Careful with that edition though. I purchased it and could do nothing with it, due to the requirement of a school ID for verification. Since I'm not a student, nor a teacher, it was pretty much a dead disk.

  • @Spaeckli It's the same program but you have to proove you are a student or teacher.

  • Amazing, i just started working with Lightroom, and it's amazing, as a beginner photograph I have always felt like editing pictures, with programs like Aperture and Photoshop ,was a bad way to make 'ok' pictures look perfect, now that i've seen the capabilities of Lightroom, i am tottally amazed, and somewhat addicted! ^^

Thanks alot for posting, it has been very helpfull, and im off to watch another few of your videos.

    Greetings from Amsterdam

  • ugh, i got photoshop to work on linux, now i just need to find out a way to run lightroom -_- sadly, if i do i will be the first

  • Can you do this stuff in Photoshop?

  • @Venomous404 Yea, Photoshop does it better but the nice thing about Lightroom is that it sets the most commonly used photographer tools into an easy to use high workflow interface :)

  • man, that is one of a heck useful tutorial. but from a d3x? you're really filthy rich guy.

  • Amazing! thanks!

  • Wow you are my idol! You have an answer for everything!! I wanna learn tips in how to shoot cool pics with a Nikon d3100 or d3000. You are awesome!

  • Great!

  • Many thanks!!

  • Great video Greg!

What service do you use for your prints?

  • Thank you for helping me with my lens choice. I did infact choose the 70-300 and will be recieving it soon for my birthday! Thanks again,

  • Thanks so much for this video!! I learned a lot in this.. I havent used the graduated filter yet... Thanks again

  • I started with Aperture, then after two weeks switched out to LR... never looked back, awesomely powerful, helpful tool... nice vid JP - Thanks. (I posted it on dPS)

  • Great video!

Can you help me here, when i use the white balance like you do all i get is 3 options AS SHOT, AUTO and CUSTOM. I cannot seem to find the same same options as you have, you know; daylight, shade, cloudy, tungsten, etc. Am i doing something wrong or did custom made them yourself and saved those settings as presets? If so how do i go about doing that?

    I have LR 3.2 and using a Nikon D700.

  • @Vamp1963 You get all the WhiteBalance option with RAW (NEF) photo and not with JPG. With JPG you get only those 3 options.

  • I only have photoshop right now with adobe camera raw...is it worth buying lightroom? It looks like it have better features for raw.

  • @stinamarie122702 Its similar but LR lets you organize and access your images much easier.

  • @JaredPolin vary cool video, you can do that also in PS?

  • @Pugyxandrew yes.

  • Great video! Really shows the true power of RAW.
