Too bad that it didn't explode 1000 years later, with the current technology we could've foreseen the supernova and probably gotten massive amounts of information from it. And it would also have been a beautiful sight :D
@BlackSunSerenade I agree! On the other hand there could be something imilar about to explode or more correctly has exploded and were just waiting for the show to rech our telescopes. I gotta figure with all the cool stuff out there stuff just may have exploded at the right time for us to catch something like that in out life times albeit though the billion dollar telescopes. It's a nice thought I cling to lol. I dream of catching something cool through my big ol DOB. Cheers, IC.
And they don't use visual range of photography for nebulas. They take pictures applying the three primary colors of light assigned to the composition of the nebula. Red shows emission from singly-ionized sulfur atoms. Green shows emission from hydrogen. Blue shows light emitted by doubly- ionized oxygen atoms. So, if you were to look at the nebula it wouldn't look like the picture shown.

I always wondered where those watches were made. Intergalactic shipping must take forever. Oh I forgot! Black holes.
