  • Forget about the whole of Ulster being a land that rightfully belongs to the 'native Irish'. County Antrim has ALWAYS been British, long before the Plantations (Republicans won't like this one bit) because of an ancient kingdom called Dal Riata which had lands in both modern-day Western Scotland & County Antrim. Look it up if you don't believe me!

In other words many of those Scots from the protestant planters loyal to Britain were in fact still on their native soil. This is FACT, just accept it

  • they fought and died to DEFEND THERE COUNTRY.......

really are you people that fucking arrogant.....

R.I.P great patrick, you did nothing wrong standing at your front door during a british carfew, only up from a hard days work, i never met you but mother really misses you, they shot you dead for standing at your front door, you were blaimed for being armed with a pistol, the british soldier that shot you was never brought to trial :(

  • I'm from Northen Ireland in Derry but i'm living in Tipperary in the south now for 5 years and i would like to be called Irish not "english" just because i was born in NI?, but cant we all just getting along for fuck sake? although i respect the IRA for trying to fight for our country back although some of the things they did was uncalled for.. all religion does is cause conflict! FUCK IT!!

  • @Norrbatious religion had nothing to do with it the fathers of irish republicanism were mostly protestant

  • For fuck sake, that you Probational for not being a bigotted arsehole. Why did you nationalists feel it necessary to kill, bomb, shoot and maim for something the majority of people in the Northern Ireland disagree with? The 'solution' send them back home to Britain is rediculous because you can't expect generations of people to leave their homeland and why don't the nationalists move back? And don't say I'm biased. My parents were in the UDR and I'm atheist republican socialist.

  • only be a matter of time foreigners from the states move in, whens the last time you went to london heard an english guy call you geezer

  • fuck ye brits

  • There will never be United Ireland because Irish population will commit suicide if they took in Northern Ireland.

  • Could someone tell me what this whole conflict is about? I'm interested.

  • @Michaelmop

The British once ruled the entirety of Ireland. During this time the British sent settlers/planters to live there, mostly situated in Ulster (modern day Northern Ireland). These settlers were mostly Scottish Protestants, who became known as known as Ulster Scots.

The British returned all but the 6 most Northern counties to the Irish, but to this day Northern Ireland remains British; because the majority of the population are descendants of settlers, who claim British citizenship.

  • @Probational Loyal and proud, this is my home ..........

  • @Probational bullshit they had a trade agreement but the potato famin fucked it up .so the uk never ruled irland

  • @Michaelmop

The conflict arises because the Irish community feel their land is occupied by the British; meanwhile the British feel they are being targeted by the Irish in what is rightfully their (British) country.

The Irish formed Paramilitary groups such as the IRA, in order to take their land back by force. Those loyal to the crown created Paramilitary groups to defend their land.

The conflict between these opposing terrorists and the UK Army has lead to much violence over the years.

  • @Probational Thanks for telling me this. Good to know.

  • @Probational

you nicely glossed over the whole unionist dominance, sectarian rule, gerrymandering - hence the reason for the fight for independance, and why irish will never be loyal to this NI.

  • @sempleds

There is no unionist dominatio, gerrymandering or sectarian rule in Northern Ireland today - yet sectarian thugs plant bombs to murder innocent people on a daily basis. Mistakes were made in the past, and naturally there is bitterness; but when bigots create violence it only breeds more sectarianism in the community, would you not agree? Some of us are prepared to move on, whilst others want to drag us back to the days of public shootings, bombings and soldiers on the streets.

  • @Probational Well, the Irish do not just "feel" it. Their land IS occupied by the British. Those who came from Britain have been born here for several generations, as far as i know. They of course feel they belong to the land, too. This conflict was created deliberately by the British elite to guarantee perpetual conflict. They did the same with India and Pakistan, Germany and Poland (Versailles 1919), Palestine and Israel - all these conflicts have been created by the British.

  • @Elberiver11 They did the same with, Germany and Poland (Versailles 1919),- these conflicts have been created by the British... WTF!!!! Did i really read that??? Poland was carved up by frederick the great, german monster..long before the Brits reclaimed it and gave it back to the rightful owners You devils invade their land for 300 years, commit the worse genocide in human history then try to blame the heros who put your demonic little state down! Fuck rite off you nasty little bastard.

  • @Probational So my solution is quite simple: The land is IRISH, and should be reunited with Ireland. If some who feel "British" are not content with it, they will have to go back to Britain. They should have the right to stay, too, because they were born there. But they cannot have both, they cannot live in Ireland and be British citizens. They have to decide whether they want to remain on their land, as Irish citizens - or wether their "Britishness" inside is stronger. Thats my opinion.

  • @Probational This is the only solution. The people in Northern Ireland will have to face the fact that they live on Irish soil , which makes them Irish citizens. If they prefer Britain, they must go back.

Britain has no right, to keep this land. It was stolen, and it was the British who created this trouble in the first place.

  • @Probational IT IS NOT THEIR FUCKING "RIGHTFULLY BRITISH COUNTRY!!!!!!! NORTH IRELAND BELONGES TO IRELAND! THE BRITISH ARE A BUNCH OF IMPERIALISTIC POWER HUNGRY SCUM!! TIOCFAIDH AR LA!! LONG LIVE THE IRA!!

  • @TheUA1990 Thats not funny man. 'Long live the IRA'. Those are the people who tried to kill my Dad and Uncle because they were protestants......

  • @schumacher1994 dont forget you protestants werent perfect either.

  • @Michaelmop what some of the replies didn't say about the origins of the conflict were the 60 years of Ulster Unionist Party rule from NI's formation in 1922 and in that time catholics were treated as second-class citizens in their own country. Other issues such as gerrymandering and sectarianism also contributed to the spark to conflict. These violations of civil rights created a hotbed of hatred, creating a state of chaos as people 'rose up'.

  • the irish dont get to claim that the british are evil since before the british came they fought amogst themselves then they had new enemies the british then when there were plantations in ulster they fought them and that trend continuse to this day

  • Divided Loyalties!

  • The past is what determines the future, and what happened in that past, and the hurt that past caused, and is still causing, byr peoples rights and benefits being eroded, and squashed down.

  • Ksulley..Lovely notion about Gerry Adams, the "Orange" in the Irish tri colour and

    " a new Ireland ".

IF?? he wasn't a known terrorist and terrorist commander it could be lent credence.

  • Very good, people would maybe need to have seen the original flobots video to get the parallels. Lookin back through those photos it's hard to believe that we lived through all that and hardly batted an eyelid as it was so routine and ho hum at the time. We've come a long way since.

  • a well balanced and thought provoking video, everyone is someones son, daughter etc

i don't think it is a case of the north just joining the south

i believe Gerry Adams speaks of a vision of a 'new ireland' where everyone is equal including the orange, isn't that what the ireland flag is supposed to represent

  • This is gonna sound really ignorant and I'm afraid that's exactly what it is- I'm American but my family is Irish.. no one will really explain what all the fighting is about... something about some liking the queen and some not.. and then there's pix of Irishmen looking like scary, middle-eastern beheaders??? Why? I truly don't understand... -Valerie

  • its kinda complex, theres two sides and a lot of history, basically there is two sides the nationalists who want to be with ROI and the unionist who wanna remain a province of the uk. the unionists are mainly protestant and the nationlists mainly catholic, and basically they are fighting over the right of NI to rule itself cos NI and ROI used to be part of the british empire then ROI split off and NI want to join them but some of them don't, basically is the fight

    :)

email me if you have probs

  • The British invaded Ireland. They took land off the native Irish and gave it to protestant planters loyal to Britain.Following conflict and constant wars and rebellions by the Irish the brits gave most of the land back to the Irish but partitioned the country. The Irish of the north who had suffered sectarian killings by the unionist(pro british) government aswell as a lack of basic human rights retalliated and the I.R.A was reborn. They won back their rights but there is still much bitterness.

  • In a Nutt Shell .. Money ! Divided and Conquered land ...

For Religion to be for the "good" people it dont half start some shit all over the world

Before the Romans & King Henry we all had are own beliefs as Celtic People .

  • Na your not ignorant at all.

By admitting your not educated on the subject is the opposite, and i admire that you dont jump in. I answered a similar question on another site, ill explain the brief history of Ireland on your page if you want?

  • Northern Ireland have two main religions. Protestants and Roman Catolics. Protestants call themselves "Loyalists" associating them with the U.K, The Queen and British Army and they believe in keeping N.I as a country. R. Catholics count themselves "Nationalists" they believe in one Ireland all ruled under one Government.

  • the republic dont deserve northern ireland after the shit they have given in the last 80 years!

  • Probational, please delete this comment. It offends alot of people out there who believe in freedom.

  • Excellent point and very true. WHY would Northern Irish citizens want to unite with a bunch of F**kers who hate them, blow up our cities and wreck havoc on our citizens? WE DON'T

Try running your own country before trying to force one million people into submission or a united Ireland. ROI? BANKRUPT AGAIN.

  • I think you are the one who hates, honey. Who said the ROI hates anyone in the North. Wow, it even sounds infantile just typing it!

It wasn't the ROI that bombed any NI cities, it was your fellow Ulstermen who were Republican in belief. And I don't know your age or whether you are from NI or Canada, but I'm sure you already know the reason for the initiation of the violence in the 1st place.

As for the ROI being bankrupt "again"? Well, FYI, the ROI never had to go to the IMF unlike the UK did!

  • Honey? Ever heard that saying of old, "actions speak louder than words"?

Your collective "actions"? Support and aiding a thirty five year terror campaign against the citizens of Northern Ireland..Yes, the very ones you want to become "ONE" with..

Your welcome to my nightmare approach has left us....... hmm..... aghast.

Don't call us, we' ll call you.

  • @bacabu30 lol the roi got lots of money from the eu and wasted lots, ive seen it first hand and now when they had to pay it back they couldnt. Not people in the republics fault it was bad government decisions. and as for it wasn't the ROI that blew up NI, I think you will find the IRA had and still do have many supporters and activists in border counties such as Louth and monaghan lets not be ignorant to that fact. may still be ulster provence but roi citizens.

  • @allypaulful Do you nordies never get sick of ranting about your identity and sick of fighting your corner? Get over yourself and crack a smile. Maybe you might stop hating one day when you realise negative energy is a waste of time for yourself and everyone else. Reply if you like, but I won't be wasting my time responding to you just to give your life meaning. lol

  • @bacabu30 this nordie as you so kindly put it totally agrees with you hence why i moved away. Hate is a wasted emotion. as for religion i dont give a shit either it should be a personal thing anyway. i grew up thakfully in a mixed area and have many catholic friends still. as for cracking a smile I smile every morning cause i have my family my health and my friends which is more important than any of that shit.

  • What happened in Ireland?
