  • when i went to see wicked, elphiw was sitting on the floor during this performance:P

  • This song encapsulates the book and that, along with the intensity of the song itself, is why it is probably one of, if not my favorite, show tunes. Idina is just a cherry on the sundae.

  • absolutely brilliant, flawless and touching,as always! She's the original elphaba and maureen in rent, and no one will ever do better, especially in rent!

  • She was the first person I ever saw as Elphaba, and I was so blown away by her performance. Hearing her sing "Defying Gravity" for the first time basically made me a fan for life. I've continued to see the show with other people in it, and while I no longer consider her my favorite in the role, her portrayal will always hold a special place in my heart. I also love her as a songwriter and performer outside of Wicked, and have gone to see her in concert twice.

  • my biggest regret in life: i never got to see idina menzel and kirstin chenoweth live in wicked

  • she was the first elphaba so everyone will love her but honestly jackie burns is my fav

  • She is Elphaba

  • I haven't seen a version of this song that wasn't phenomonal, but it seems that the ones after Idina set the bar, have really stepped this song up in intensity and Wickedness. Anybody cast as Elphaba has my respect because it's just a hard role to play. Check out Felicia Ricci's book Unnaturally Green and you will respect this role even more!!

  • Every time... Every fricken time I hear Idina sing this I have a huge fangirl moment. I love her and Kristin. They say other's were the best, and I'll admit, there were some pretty extravagant women doing the parts of the witches, but Idina and Kristin? They rule them all. BWAHAHAHHAHAHA *cough cough*

  • they should make a movie of this play... with idna playing that part. Kile if you agree.

  • @BookBuyerReader i mean like

  • When I saw this elpahba was Vicki noon. She was horrible. I wasted three hours and one hundred bucks. :(

  • @dinahmanatee I saw Vicki Noon as my first Elphaba (and only, until next weekend) and I thought she was pretty amazing...

  • @gr8grace78 Me Too!!!! Where did you see her?

  • @ChenzelElph I haven't seen Idina, if that's what you're asking. I've only seen Vicki Noon and Christine Dwyer. I saw Christine just a couple of weeks ago and WOW, she was amazing!!

  • She does have an amazing voice, and it's perfect, it sounds so...witchy and wicked like. I didnt see her when i saw Wicked, but i wish i had!

Tho the lady playing Elphaba Laurel Harris, was incredible also!!

Her and Glinda got the most applause and the whole cast got a standing ovation! We clapped for like 5 minutes...i know..my arms were dead when we finally stopped! XD!!

  • can we stop comparing whos better and just enjoy the performance? jeeze nobody gives two fucks who anyone thinks is better. just shut the fuck up and enjoy it. if you dont like it dont fucking watch it. COMMON SENSE.

  • @faggyboy2 i do -_-

  • My favorite performance!

  • I don't understand how anyone can think she's isn't the greatest Elphaba. She has an outstanding voice, she is an amazing actor, and is shockingly beautiful. She is my role model and she's perfect as Elphaba.

  • I think dee roscioli is better than her, idina is really really good, but dee is amazing

  • Love it!!! Idina best Elpi in the shows history. Bring her back to Broadway!!!!!

  • elphaba has two mind-blowing character moments in wicked. the first is defying gravity. the second is THIS. idina's performance is outstanding... no words can do this justice.

  • i love it when elphie has her hair down :)

  • @butchymcfabulous

She looks so beautiful with her hair down!

  • Also she is the perfect Elphaba. I have listened to Eden, Steph, Shoshana, Teal, Rachel, Julia, all of them pale in comparison to Idina. She has the best voice for the Witch, and acts most like the book character unlike the rest

  • @QM2nerd i so agree! i've always said that Idina did the perfect interpretation of Elphaba as Maguire wrote it. Her successors did the interpretation of Elphaba as Idina did it.

  • @QM2nerd Have you heard one of Kerry Ellis's performance? Idina and Kerry are my two favorites. I think Kerry behaves the most like the book: a little more aggressive than Idina, but both women are incredibly talented.

  • @QM2nerd It's cause she is the original, she created the character <3

  • Anyone else think she is a hot villain? weird but whatever lol

  • I love her and kirstin they r my favorite pair I also like Annaleigh

  • I love Idina ((:

  • idina is sooo talented!!! :D

  • perfect as alway :)

  • Slightly grainy, but still. Thanks for uploading it.

  • Thanks for the upload ^^
