I still got my Miggy 500, 1 meg ram, external floppy drive, Action Replay 3, original workbench disks/manuals, the Amiga sales box and the F1GP game boxed with manual.
I've been meaning to put it on Ebay but have no selling account yet.
Oliver Roberts has released F1GP-ED on aminet WITH keyfile to unlock all features of his editor. WinUAE (Windows/Amiga emulation) is still being updated. I've mucked around using a gamepad but I cant get a G25 to work. Steering and gears will work but throttle and brake is no go. Seeing this I might have another go at it.
20 fps, yeah man, Haha
It used to be 8 max on a pal machine. I ran it in ntsc mode for about a 7% fps "improvement" :)
I played without any helps and I reduced the details, the feeling of speed was good then. Yes a mythic game with a great manuel, i was the good old time;)
I've got Gran Turismo 5 on my tv in the background at the moment, but watching this, I don't think this was any less fun. Used to play this for hours and hours.
Lool. This is the only F1 game I've ever played. (F1 2010 should be arriving today)
I seem to remember playing this on a pc tho, & it was nice & smooth.
I took the time to learn the game, & the year Mansell finally won his championship, I raced this in real time, full race distance, with all driving aids off, alongside the real F1 on the TV.
Like others have said, the tracks were very accurate, & I remember being impressed with the graphics at the time. Lool lool lool.
i loved this game, i spent hours on it. Looking at it now I'm wondering how the hell I played it at 3 frame a second lol I remember smashing all the other cars up
You can play this game in the same quality (maybe a littlebit better) on a Nintendo DS. Using the Dos-Emulator "DSx86" it's pretty much the same graphic and framerate like in this video. Still fun to play. =)
The Amiga always produced top quality games that use the most out of the system. This is more of an example of pushin it to the limit which is some really good graphics and sound for the system.
man i used to love playing this, keep turning F1 on and off, cane into the back of the other cars or even go round backwards and take everyone out haha. used to love the editor patch you could get for it too!
Great game, ran nice on an A600....remember playing this all the time. And had a great multiplayer mode....Can't be the same Alonso though...this was '91 or '92?
My favourite game of all time, spent hundreds of hours playing it. Although you're using the racing line and no damage! where's the fun in that?? haha!
Clearly played on A500 or another 68000 7 MHz Amiga. It ran a lot faster with my Supraturbo 28, which I had overclocked a bit. :) It was a very nice game: first with the tracks resembling the actual ones. It was also possible to download current season driver lists and cars from BBS's.
my god...the hours i spent on this back in the early 90's...i thought it was great-but even then i felt the graphics gave it a very stilted "slow motion" feel...
This game had cool hot seat multiplayer system. Players would drive their cars in something like 60-120 second sequences. While one player was driving, the cars of other players were controlled by AI.
I remember the "fun" of finding out the AI had crashed your car when it became your turn to drive. Or when you purposefully blocked and crashed AI controlled car of some other player.
I also remember it was extremely annoying when you spinned and AI cars would keep hitting you instead of passing.
This is the best f1 game! Currently is similar Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 4 (2002) for PC. But Amiga version have better physical properties in the course of riding. At the other side on Amiga are not replays and for example technical details about laps.
It was such a better game on the PC - a frame rate of 25 fps, and texture mapped roads. Nicer graphics in general, actually. This looks like rubbish, though I'm sure it was amazing at the time.
Depended on the machine you were running. By the time of this launch they were using 68000 processors of around 8Mhz, where as PCs were running up to 25Mhz with VGA video and soundblaster 16 cards - But these machines were way more than twice the price!! I played this a couple of years later with an A4000 machine and it was pretty fast.
Well, the PC-version had texture mapped roads. I didn't need to see what it was like on an 8 mhz machine, so it's not an issue for me. A lovely 486 DX2 66mhz machine ran it at 20fps pretty well - 25fps made it a little slow, actually.
Absolutely superb game even to this day. Ok so the graphics look naff now, but back than they where awsome. So addictive, I remember all the made up driver names, pitty they didn't hav the official drivers!
Btw whoever was playing this in this video, just wanted to say you are terrible, this game wasn't even hard cause it was so slow compared wiv real speed and somehow you managed to get off to a shit start!
The golden age of F1, and the golden age of computers also! Nowadays games like rFactor makes this look dated to say the least, but back in the day it was state of the art, and played it for ages. It even helped me and my brother understand how to race when we went karting. Can't wait for the next big F1 sim that'll raise the bar even further :)
It's easy to laugh at the crude graphics in this game, but even now, the circuit topography is impressively accurate. The manual was a superb read. And weirdly, the Game engine seems strikingly similar to that of Grand Prix 4 nearly a decade later.
I got frustrated with how easy it was to win. The other cars were never quite up to speed. Then I found Gpedit or something and could speed everyone else up! I still won though cos i'd just push them off the track.
I just noticed that the wing mirrors have reflections! Even SCS couldn`t manage to do that in Haulin. I too had this game & a Amiga A500 with the full 1mb ram upgrade!
i used to love playing this, i cant believe how we was all amazed by the graphics and sound quality, saying that.. the amiga had the best sounds in its day. i still have 2 amigas :D
Sadly this is jerky as it is not being run on fast Amiga. I had an accelerator and it made a huge difference to the frame rate. One of the best games I have ever played.
Christ looking at this it seems like only yesterday I was playing this and Archer MacLeans-Jimmy Whites Whirlwind Snooker(I wonder whats happend to Archer I know he left Awesome in 2005?). That was my trick to drive round backwards as well you could cause some serious carnage at full speed, Monaco was the best track for that. Cheers for the clip Mate.
Yeah, I saw the Spectrum version here on YT. To do the skidding sounds, it sounded more like beepeepeepeepeepeep! LOL The sound was fairly realistic here.
Personally i'm still annoyed at Goeff Crammond for snubbing the amiga after this game, as it sold a lot on the amiga. He could have done other types of game. Talk about a lack of loyalty to amiga owners... the swine.
yeah me and my mates used to play this multiplayer then computer takes control,we laughed our heads off at times,i do remember the men who pushed the cars off the circuit and the invisible crane. The funniest was when you lost control (at high speed) hitting another retired car on the grass, only to find the marshalls still attached to the car spinning around in circles flying everywere,it was hilarious!
this was an awesome childhood game, me an my mate use to let the computer race an watch any crashes on the replay bit, was a really good game on the console its on! took ages to do 1 lap thou lol
damn, that takes me back, I remember playing this on the dos emulator back in '95. It was my first computer game. althought back then the framerate seemed fine.

I'd say the only simulations that let you 'feel' the race, are Geoff's. Legend :)
Familiar to GPX players things often ended differently after taking a replay, (Say, the player crashed) and it'd force you to continue from that point when you left the replay.
The game would produce however many frames you asked it to irrespective of if it was in a second or not. This meant that when your PO rating went above 100% the game was no longer in realtime (See video).
It also had a series of flaws and exploits, (Use of conventional mem etc.) but it was still legendary.
I remember back in the day, this game got great reviews-- I wanted it so bad, and the price was always too high... one of the earliest computer simulators, and for it's time... it was TIGHT, dawg!
Man this brings it all back in floods - from a time when games were games! I had this on my ST and devoted a huge chunk of my life to shaving just another tenth off my lap times!

I remember back in the day, this game got great reviews-- I wanted it so bad, and the price was always too high... one of the earliest computer simulators, and for it's time... it was TIGHT, dawg!

Yes, actually i grab this video at the same weekend of 2006 GP Brazil. I wanted to know what could Schumacher and Alonso have done in 1991 ;-)

Despite the fact Schumacher was actually a competitor in 1991?

well, this video was inspired in 2006's GP Brazil where Alonso and Schumacher were fighting for the leadership

Man this brings it all back in floods - from a time when games were games! I had this on my ST and devoted a huge chunk of my life to shaving just another tenth off my lap times!
