woow , if you'v only been riding for under 5 months your doing amaaaazing chicky ! iv been riding for 5 years ! soo did you end up mastering thee canter yet !? when you do canter remember to , well what my instructor saays , hump the horse , i know , i know , keeps your heels down and look up !! just go with your and you'll be good !!

And I know the comments are old but seriously .. just because she didn't hold onto the saddle doesn't mean she had cantered before! I had to hold on to the saddle... different riding schools teach different ways :L
I learnt to canter on my 3rd lesson .. but I had my instructor by my side, it was just so I could get used to the feel of cantering. I hadn't got my diagonal down in trot back then but my rising was perfect and I really bonded with the horse I was riding so she let me have a canter:L .. well if you can count you cantering with your instructor by your side cantering:')ahaa tbh i would have much rather waited 5 months like you did Chloe..like you said you would have perfected most things by then x
@Xxhorses4evax Because in the space of 5 months, you would have developed a better seat and been more familiar with horses and riding...And you would have known how to communicate with the horse / steer / and known how to trott. I dont think on your second riding lesson you would have perfected a trott or developed a good balance and seat on a horse. :L

you did well, try sitting trott when changing transitions. The horse can get confused as you are still rising when asking to go in to canter :) just a tip :)

That pony has a pretty fast canter! Just one tip, you seem to be pulling on his mouth and/or bending him to the outside when your asking for the canter, when you do that it makes him think that you don't want him to canter. When asking for the canter, bend the horse to the inside then slide your outside leg back. Not trying to criticize, just trying to help.
Wow you did good. I couldnt sit trough my first canter. I am still riding the pony that i first canterd on. Se wouldnt stop and i wasnt on a lunge lol.

just today at my lesson i rode a brown mare named coco and my trainer asked me to canter but for coco its forget the canter and forget the gallop she is going for the run LOL. I have never been scared to jump high or even gallop but I seriously thought i was going to die I got sooooooo tense but then I got her to calm down.

Your lucky you had you first canter already. I've canter before on many horses but not my Benny. He spooked and went into a canter but ive never cantered perposly. But tommorow I'm gonna try it wish me luck!
@ribuma3 - Thankyou so much very much appreciated :') XX And Dont worry - cantering looks easy but its not normal to be bouncing about on a horse like that so when you start , ( and it can take years to get the hang of it ) I gripped with my legs - ( bad idea ) Lol- and other bad habits - i havnt even been cantering that long either so i know how you feel- :) My best tip is - to keep a good seat - sounds weird - but as you canter pretend your poilshing the saddle with your butt xD Thanks Again!
@ribuma3 Ahh - gripping with your legs is a natural reaction for anyone when they start to canter - but its bad because it means your legs go back and higher sometimes and your feet can come out of place in the stirrup - ahh!! Just force your heels down - dont pull on the reigns - ( move your hands gently with the horses head) Look straight where your goin and feel confident! ;) If you find your legs flap around - try your best to keep them still and heels down ;) Dont worry - im like you!! X xD

well done tht well good for your first time im doing my first canter in 2 weeks, im excited but scared at the same time but i think ill be ok hope so anywaiz x well done anyway :) x

Aww thankyou joeypony95 :D The Pony im riding is called Dougal hes such a sweetie but very cheeky! hehe :D and since i rode my first canter its now my favourite gate! :D
