@DirtDogWutang Your right but depends on what you call a day you can go take lessons for 4 hours take a break and start boarding by yourself so It is possible you just need Motivation
Damn that's a great slope for practicing. This isn't carving, more like regular linking turns. Great job, took me about three days to start getting the hang of it too.
I learned how to carve my second day on a snowboard. the faster you go the easier it gets. Snow boarding is easy. But i also skate board and wake board too!!
Yea, I carved a tiny bit at the end of my first day and I don't skateboard or anything, It really helps if you have friends that know how to do it. I got heelside and toe side down after my first run. Youtube helps too!
Wish i'd had a slope like that to learn on, i got one hour lesson yesterday, then all green slopes were closed today an yesterday, was fine in less steep bits, but steep bits kicked my ass =(
not carving at all. he needs to stop twisting and bending over on the toe side. and use more flexion and extension when transitioning between toeside and heelside.
this is not carving. You tend to push with your back foot while switching from heels to toes and toes to heels, plus, in carving you are really really inclined . anyways these were just tips I'm not saying you're not godd or whatsoever, for 1 year experience you're way better than other people that snowboarded for 1 year. It's hard to explain it in english. Keep up the good work you're doing great. it's just not carving
@harpsaxbassman yea me too! infact by day 1 you get a hang of it, day 2 is more for self exploration, daring to do sharp turns etc, and day 3 you're a smooth confident safe rider!
@happynuts so true, i just finished my second day of snowboarding today and I was going down black diamonds. I go slowly, but i can carve on my toes and heels both ways
Dont call me dumbass I wouldnt call you like that ? Look at this you tube Video "Raceboarding NOT Snowboarding!!!"...this is real carving....what the guy in your video do is just sliding down the hill like a beginner. !
First you have no Hardboots, second you have not the wright snowboard, need to go more down into your knees a flater angle with your shoes on the board and all you see when you look up the hill youve been driven is one small line in the snow...thats carving ;)
This is not carving, it's a basic skidded turn. Also, you do not need hardboots or an alpine board to carve. You could easily carve that slope on the setup that guy's riding. when the tip and tail of the board follow the same path (end up with a nice thin trail left behind of maybe a few cm max),that's carving, but whereas a skidded turn like this, is where the tip and tail dont follow the same path (end up with a trail of maybe a foot or so wide, as would be expected on the turns in this vid)
Ohh, thowmas2 what you said helped me understand, I havn't really understood the difference between carving and skidded turns but now I do.. with carving the board travels the direction your board is pointing, where as in skidded turns the boards goes forward and just slides a bit to the side.. thanks!!
Not even close to the difference. Both turns are in an S shape. The difference is that when you are carving, you are losing very little speed because you are basically riding on your edge. In skidded turns you are skidding against the snow to slow down with each turn.
pretty good , stay centered and crouch a little to prevent wash on the turn in ( this allows more angle of attack or lean and puts more preasure on the edges ) you need to pump your self out of the turns this accelerates you out ,hope this helps you on your next outting .. baz
how is he a beginner...it says ``This is my brothers third day snowboarding after a YEAR LATER!!!. He's still got it, but he was a little rusty, So I had to give him some more pointers :)``
Yeah, he's all-over-the-place. I was doing this same thing in about thirty minutes of every snowboarding. I had experience riding skateboards previously, however.
you guys are being too harsh. for a third timer ... he's doing just fine "carving". he understands transitioning from toe to heel edge, and although it's not quick and smooth, it's still beginners carving.
that is what's holding me back - looking back up the mountain to make sure i'm not going to cut someone off - then i catch an edge...i need to go during the week
and isn't this more connecting low speed turns rather than carving???
I agree with mrgofastnow, this is not carving at all. There is wasted movement in the washouts when switching and it lacks liquidity and rhythm. You should be making S shapes with very little time in the transfer between effective edges. Don't be discouraged though it will come with time.
Dude that is not carving! Maybe you need a lesson or more time on the mountain. For the sake of the people on youtube I will not let you lead them to believe that crap in this video is carving! What you have here is beginner basics and barely making turns. Carving is far more dynamic and requires a good deal of skill. We all start as beginners so keep riding and when you guys figure it out post more vids of real carving.
for the sake of the people on youtube, lets just call it carving okay? yes, i know its not carving, those are called turns, but it sounds cooler if i call it carving okay?
that's pretty good..but you counter rotate on the toe side turns. so you end up pushing the tail out a bit and therefore almost skid turning..this slows you down..and then also doesn't look as if your turns are flowing into each other...heel side carves are pretty good though
just a pointer, make sure he dosnt counter-rotate his upper body to his board when he goes toeside, because when you do that it slows you waaaaaaay down. thats a technique that is really only necessary on hardcore backcountry runs, not quarter-mile wide groomed slopes.
This is not incorrect but it is not carving, he will get it eventually but dont get too comfortable doing this.
OH i know why NoobInaCan says its carving because he probably spends the whole day at the park and not riding the mountain NOOB is an example of the know it alls that you see in every mountain that cant even get off the lift.
dude dont give lessons thats incorrect heel left toe right? then where is your weight? Your weight should be towards the front and you turn with your shoulders and hips.
you needa practice your heel edge a bit more ! i just started snowboardin too its hecka fun
