i saw graham coxon at the astoria in london in 2006 and burnt to bitz was being recorded that night i feel so honored to have been there on the closing night and have the double disc recorded as we listened not every one has one of those unless some feckless idiot had sold it on ebay lol! i loved this song so much that night.

@GunsGenialeStuff Gosh! You're 12 years old? Man I wish I was you when I was twelve! I'm quite jealous that you have better taste in music at that age than I had :)
@medicaldoctor369 Eh.. Sadly, yes XD Aww, thank you SO much for saying that! ... My taste in music seems to be a bit different than people at my school's, but everyone is different... :) You're really kind ^^
Wow, I LOVE Blur but the intro to this song sound very much like Morissey (or the Smiths w/e). Check out "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" and you'll see what I mean. Graham was fantastic when he was with Blur, but on his own... not as great.
@MrLowThumb he was great in blur of course but i think his solo stuff is brilliant too. the diversity of music styles...punk, blues, jazz, folk, country whatever you want. it's all there and he totally makes it work. the new lp next year and from what he's said it's wiiiiiiild:]
I like his vocals. A lot. Sounds very personal, not like these singers with crazy range where it's all so soulless and dull even when technically impressive.
I am disappointed that he isn't using a Fender Jaguar guitar like he does in the video, but fuck it, good sound from his Tele anyway.
Yeah, I have been into metal and I have been starting to get bored with it. There is not alot of originality in it. Just look at Blur they were the most original bands of the 90's. Graham is one of my favourite guitarist. Alot of people think else because he isn't fast but who cares. He is original as hell!
classic track! Reminds me a bit of coffee and t.v by blur but... although I like some of blurs tracks I think coxon's solo stuff has a certain energy and rawness that is absent from blur.
yeh give the bloke a break!! this is class,i paid 30 quid to see him support the kaiser chiefs and i cant stand them,he has the gifty of writing great tunes, and has that gritty punk edgyness thing!! saw him twice in 06,just hope he keeps the solo thing going!!
Yeah, I was just reading another interview with him when he said he often still has to fight his self-awareness and stage fright. Maybe it was a bad night for him.
Still, it's a great song. He has nothing to be shy about..he's capable of brilliance & I think the shyness makes him appealing to a lot of people.
my inglish is bad sorry......but your videos are amazings ok....you are one the best fans of blur trucuku1982.atte one mexican that i love blur.....arriba blur porque es la mejor banda del planeta

Admittedly the Colchester accent isn't the smoothest or sexiest in the world, but our Graham makes it work!

@zackpliskin
Yeah, totally agree.
Although I could say the same for Albarn...
And probably that's why I/we like alternative and indie more than metal and stuff.
Its about impressing people with good music, not just with skills....(well, Coxon is hell of a skilled guitarist, but you get the point...)

I love the fact that he uses cheat sheet live. He forgets his lyrics sometimes and it's even apparent on this performance at about :37 in

es, although it is redeemed by the quality of the guitar, which is as good as anything he's ever done.

That riff at 2:37, though is pretty damn close to perfection, though. Check out the chord forms he's using.

Graham did reuse the vocal hook from "Coffee and TV" for the beginning here, didn't he?
I wonder if that was a deliberate reference.
EuchridEucrow1 2 years ago 3
Sounds like it
It was good in Coffee and TV, and it's good here!
and welcome back, Blur!

Give him a break everyone, I really like the song! Yeah, his vocals are a bit off at that performance but his guitar playing is amazing (obviously).
And it does sound a little bit like Coffee And TV at the beginning :) Which isn't a bad thing.
