you must explain 'why' the characters are written like that. each character in mandarin is unique, and they have their own reasoning, combinations of pictures of something they explains. learning mandarin without learning these reasons are very boring and very difficult to memorize the hanzi characters but once you understand the parts of each characters it becomes 'the Easiest Language to Learn'. That phrase isn't kidding but this video does NOT explain why.
