  • You are a master!

  • Your techi

  • 0.0 bravo!

maybe you just need to relax a bit for the notes..

since you just did it for 30min... =)

  • that was great. thanks - you have talent :)

  • I can't play a single song on the violin and I've been playing for 5 months. Every time i play i get really angry from messing up I feel like breaking my violin in half. Dx Any suggestions?

  • @101kyouya dont get angry, and its better to relax while playing rather than tensing up. Also, do you have a teacher? if not, get one.

  • @TwoTekah Thanks :D It helped alot

  • Classically-trained, classically influenced. Loving the Gershwin-esque mix of both jazz and classical.

Keep up the amazing work! I love listening to your transcriptions, and your tutorials have really helped with my self-teaching of violin. :)

  • I have watched naoko's video at least 50 times and I must say: good job -- you almost play this as good as she does. you are very good and it's inspiring to see you play! thanks...

  • woah!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!! ure so verrryyyy gooodd!!!!!! i wish YOU were my violin teacher!

  • que maravilloso , tanta energia , tanta pasion , es un deleite ver como usas este intrumento musical . maestro !!

  • Haha, my brother has been listening to Appassionata for the last few days. While following the things I subscribed to (BenChanViolin) I suddenly saw that peace. Must've seen it before but never took the time to actually watch it. I'm glad I finally did.

Keep up the good stuff, Ben Chan Style.

  • Classical composers often say their music is jazzy and often it is next to nowhere near it, great playing all the same

  • Your fingers moved so fast xD

  • It' s so beautiful that each time when you r playing that you are telling a story. When I am happy, a sad story from you can make me cry. When I' m sad a happy (jazzy:D) story can make me smile. I just wanna say thanks for that,so:

    Thank you!

    Arigato!

    Merci!

    Danke!

    Obrigado

    Gracias!

    Dank je!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :D

  • now that i've seen it again it does sound a bit classical ^^ but i still love it

  • yeah dude, great one, cheers!!!don't mind those self-absorbed "pundits" who criticize unreasonably. music is for the ears and not in debating sessions by those "elitists".

  • oh....my god. i am SO not playing this for the next 200 hundered years...or atleast till im out of highschool and DONT suck.... you rawk dude, this you make this song look SO easy! 30 mins!? holy crap! i cant even memorize 3 measures of the chorus of Canon in 30 mins!! props dude, props...

  • You are simply amazing!!! This is the first time I actually hear a music piece and cry cause it's been played so perfectly in tune, in rhythm. You have the passion in it without having the usual "over bearing" aura that most good violinist have which makes it completely and absolutely superb!

  • not to be too blunt or harsh but you are nto cut to play jazz violin

  • This is what you came with after 30 minutes? It would take me a solid month to figure this one out, lol

  • that was amazing. i satrted Violin not to long ago, i not a beginer but im not well not a beginer,. anyways i still cant exactly place my fingers right especialy on the D string, and pointers?

  • BenChan... please.... Shangri-La by the Screamer... Play this awesome song ben chan style. o.o

  • dude you are too modest. that was so freakin impressive due to the fact that it took you that short to learn ALL OF THAT i am impressed with your skill!!!! gaaaaahhhhh i love it!!! And whoever recommended that you try that song out was a genius ;D

  • can somebody help me? I really want to know the title of this violin solo ( sad tune). I swear I heard it in one of those versions of shelock holmes... but when i looked it up here in youtube...its a different piece...i also saw it in this japanese drama kaikyou wo wataru violin when the teacher was playing it near this river...thank you

  • great playing but that ain't jazz sally.

  • hei!!!! you're so good. i really like u're style!!!

  • Careful now, or else you might get trigger fingers. It's common to musicians.

  • I want to hear Antonio Vivaldi's winter from you.

  • great piece. can you do own style and main theme "malagueña"

  • o fuck. great O_o

  • Thank you very much for this :3

  • amazing bow crossings!

i've been playing for 4 years, and mine arent nearly as good!

  • @xsuzannexfarrahx Haha, i think Ben has been playing at least 20 years, no joke.

  • i play a viola and i want to know how to play the zelda song

  • ...I'm gonna practice some more now! Thanks for the inspiration, dude.

  • bravo!

    very inspiring

  • I'm learning it thx again for the transcription ben I'll try to post a video of it

  • whoa, i saw the original, its sooo good,.i cant believe ben tried to learn the song by ear

  • Rewind to 0:34 plz

What!?!?That's insanely outstanding. I just hope I can get even half as good as you before I die

  • OMG YOU'RE SO FREAKING AMAZING!!!! you're perfect!

  • I stumbled upon the original video of Naoko a while back and thought it was absolutely beautiful. You're right though, she makes it look so easy. And I think you being able to transcribe it from ear is phenomenal!!

  • nice

  • ok nvm she does play good but still she had other instruments with her, w/e the case Ben you rock more dude :D

  • ok you know what Ben don't lisent t this people who dont know how to lisent wich you explained that YOU were going to play in YOUR style wich is CLASSICAL.. *sigh*

  • Well, he has perfect pitch if that helps any...

  • Excellent, wow 1 day and in the bag.

    Thanks

  • wwrtwertwer

  • ben's version in my opinion is better then naoko's , noako's surprisingly to me was boring and gave me headache

  • wish my violin sound like that >.> never buy a 50 dollar violin from ebay >.> 5/5

  • lol, 50 dollars? is it made of plastic?

  • Gotta admit Ben, this just doesn't hold a candle to Naoko's version. Of course it was technically proficent, and its a good testament to your abilities, it just doesn't have the flow that made the original piece.

  • much agreed, it was very well played and technically proficient, but it, like you said, it doesn't have that flow. It sounds rather clunky and....exact, compared to Naoko, where the notes flowed flawlessly and were a little more loose, for lack of a better word.

  • Yeah, but he didn't have a backing band either

  • and this one day after hearing the song

  • Your style is flawless.

  • Cool!

  • I don't know if this was intentional or not, but this was also a great demonstration of breathing while playing. At least for me, breathing while playing has to be in sync with the playing. It may sound crazy, but listen carefully between the notes. Nice work again Ben!

  • hahah I noticed that also! XD

  • It seems like you sharply inhale after every phrase. Too quick of a song and you might hyperventilate !

  • u must have been playing since u were a kid to be able to copy music by ear .

    KUDOS !!

  • dude great tone, u play awsome!. really enjoyed it.

  • Lol, well done, because i play the violin, i can see how hard this song is just judging by the fingerwork, man i love your music!!

  • i like yours better. keep it goin, dude. i'll let you know when i get started :/

  • Very nice Ben! - you say you have the notes?

That really is a beautiful piece and you play it so well - 30 minutes! I think this would take me a year to sound really bad compared to this.

  • some parts look very hard andsome very easy.

but i may be wrong keep practicing

    nice vid

  • naoko's version is much more... airy? jazzy? loose?

yours is much powerful, and.. stiffer? i don't know the word by far i'm not saying yours is bad at all considering that you just played it for 30 minutes before.... just some constructive criticism to help you out.

  • "Ben Chan style."

That's how he was trained, haha.

  • You make me want to play violin again

  • me too! i felt regrets. hahah!

  • I guess I'm just more into the classical style, but I really like the way you played it more so than the actual version. You are just simply amazing and a real inspiration to me as a violinist. Hopefully I can be close as good as you.

  • awesome! can u do em more from the anime noir?! PLS!!!! T_T

  • some parts sound like it's from gundam seed or something. haha., ^-^

  • how do i chek "about my video"

  • you're GOOD!!!!! :^)

  • O_O

  • dude, you're too good,

u gave me the chills,.... ;D

  • Amazing!!!

  • You are so wonderful

  • bravo is cute T_T bravo 5STARS

  • After hearing Naoko playing it, I really like the way you played the "classical" part of the piece. You really made it sound passionate- just the interpretation that I really like. Thanks for posting this great video :]

  • Hehe, I just heard Naoko's and I get what you mean by Ben version. XD Great job!

  • after hearing it played by Naoko, i dont really like to hear it another way but you were aight ben

  • "I could probably do better..." dude what are saying that was BEAUTIFUL for 30 mins

  • well its true he would obviously play it better if it was an hour

  • o_o my goodness, your videos never stop amazing me! I just recently watched Naoko preform this before I stumbled uppon your version. :] All I can say is,... wonderful! :D

requests? o.o i know this is a pretty simple piece (maybe?) Howabout Grief and sorrow? You know, Naruto.. and all that not Sadness and sorrow (there is a difference listen to them) Grief and sorrow lol. :] verry pretty

:] try that one! :D please?

  • For someone so good, your so humble :3

    Keep up the good work

  • Lol I'm bad at string crossing and double stops...

  • What an excellent performance for such a short amount of practice and preparation time!

  • WOW your amazing i wish i could play the viloin soooo bad

  • From what I have seen so far you have talent. Maybe more practice would have helped but honestly I could have never done that well trying to do her style!

  • I know, it's probably super hard, even know I don't play violin. However, I love jazz violin. Naoko is really really really awesome. Your solo is awesome, but Naoko has the whole band, so...it sounds better :D this song is the only good jazz violin song I found so far. Can't explain how much i love this song

  • loved it

  • i was going to say dude shut up and put ur money where ur mouth is well im gona shut the hell up cause DUDE UR AMAZING alot better than me ive been playing 10years and omg ur so good 20years ? reply m8 tom

  • this didnt impress me........it just blew me off my chair

  • I request Ashera the Creator from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn!

You are probably too busy, but here is to trying.

  • Very very good.

I've had the video you referenced in my favorites for at least 6 months. It is excellent.

You are clearly very talented. It would be good to hear you do more classical pieces that you had mastered.

    Thank you!

  • it doesn't at all sound jazzy and sounds a little rougher than naokos but hey it was naokos song so she knows it better

  • I'm not sure how this comment helps me at all. Saying "You must get more time to train this one song" is like saying to a hungry person, "You're hungry." Doesn't help me at all!

  • I dont understant at all what You now say(I'm dont know english to end), but i know you dont understand what i whant to sed in my comment.. that to bad:(

  • He wants to know, what he can do better. Where are the weaknesses in your opinion.

  • @BenChanViolin I completely agree, Ben. Not to mention, you said in the video that you'd only been playing it for about thirty minutes. Of COURSE you'd need some practice, it's not as if you'd been playing it for years up to this final moment. People really need to lighten up these days!

  • have you ever thought about playing any of the violin parts from the halo games?

  • can i request something?...........um can u play...epilogue from the anime called fruits basket? thanks, or gravity, from yoko kanno....tnx tons :)

  • You should try out for the youtube orchestra. You would get in with no problem!

  • where's the sheet music? is it posted somewhere? I'm dying to get a hold of it so i can play this thing!

  • I sniff during rests also because it helps me count 8D

  • You're fantastic!!!

i like the violin, and my dream is play this instrument... but i don't have money... yeah!

  • Dang, only thirty minutes!? Thirty minutes is usually enough only to learn half the notes or somethin. I loved how you hit that high note. The beset part of the piece, I'd say.

  • When any instrument, well in this case a violin, is played well, it makes an alluring sound. And how u play is just... a divine and magnificent sound. Total bravo! Keep up the good work!

  • Can you send or give me th music note sheet of the song?

  • its nice... and really classic

    but listening naoko terai's,

i feel more comfortable and relax.

  • you're good dude, go out and market that talent you could do very well and get a backup group to harmonize with.... there's moolah to be made with that sound

  • You blew me away! I got goosebumps!!

  • you are awsome for posting the sheet music

  • just out of curiousity, how much did your violin cost? again, u r wayyyy goood, u should record

Violin Sonata in G minor or Toccata and Fugue in D minor

  • After listening to it a bit more, I've fallen in love with your version and her version.

But Naoko's version gets boring because of how long it is.

    x-x

You win for keeping it short and listenable.

But she wins for tuning her violin lower (I think).

    XD

  • OMG!!!! I love her music. She is soooo amazing. I'm so glad that you played this. I love her jazz skills with her classical edge. I have both of her cd's. ONce again well done!! I love the doubles and your intonation is awsome. There are some tricky intervals in that some...but hey you are ben chan you are just awesome!!

  • wow ben chan 8th measure i think it was-of this piece is kinda hard lol. i'ma see how you did it..can't really see the fingers though xD

  • I like the jazz live of Naoko. You plays this song impressed and great. I am learning violin now and hope to practice more.

  • seriously Ben: you play this piece even better than naoko!

    very impressive...

  • Lol, thanks- just a different style than her, that's all :-)

  • I LOVE YOU BEN CHAN!!! XD

  • wow only 30 min thats brilliant

  • Wow. You. Are. Amazing.

    Subscribed!

  • Wow. Really impressive stuff! Great vibrato, and your pitching is fantastic. That's something I really need to work on >.>. Well played! 2:07 - really, really amazing. If you were at all interested, I may need to commandeer you in future to record some of my music... ;)

  • haha... I wish I could be able to play something that difficult after only 30 minutes of practice. : 0

  • your playing never ceases to amaze me :]

  • thanks for doing the video us...

sometimes..when i logon to youtube...i'm waiting ur new video... hehehe

    keep on ya!!

  • Hey upload more! You are quite entertaining!

  • go on his site there are more vids =P

  • thanks for the music sheet ben chan i suggest you use finale D it lets you make your music except on the computer. i'm just suggesting so that people who can read your handwritten music can read it when you use finale d. nice job this is soooo beautiful i'm trying it and its some what challenging lol

  • These transcriptions are really just for my own personal use as I make videos, though I decided to share them since people have requested them. If I were paid to do it, it would be easier for me to justify spending the extra time to make it on Finale. Sorry about my messy handwriting, though.

  • lol its fine. but again thanks. and you playing the violin so beautiful has inspired me greatly =P

  • This is awesome! sounds like something straight from a nintendo game!!! i love it, keep up the great work =]

  • I LOVE YOU <3 *Muah*

  • sometimes i wish i could give you one million stars lol

  • .............................

    i fell backwards

  • OH MY GOSH! U R AMAZING!!!!

  • awesome!

  • MUY BIEN, GENIAL!

  • good job ben, some of us love you here in Nashville. Peace, Patricio

  • That piece was phenomenal man. Never really knew Violin was also used as Jazz instrument O_O

I lol'd when you said "Ben Chan style". Right as you said I knew I was gonna enjoy it. The performance by Naoko was just craaazy man LOL.

    Excellent performance though dood.

  • in the hands of a master, any instrument can be used as a jazz instrument.

  • 5 stars!

  • great

  • Awsome thank you for sharing your craft

  • dude you are a tremendous fiddle player. did you sell your soul to the devil at the crossroads?

Are you in a band? There is a swing/big band group like Squirrel Nut Zippers out there waiting for you to join!

  • its great!

  • lol i like that

  • looks pretty hard for me, but I will try anyways, thnx and nice going as always ;)

  • XD

    Good job Ben.

I watched the original too, and I thought it was better but that's because of it's advantage of having other instruments playing along with her.

    XD

    I quite liked it though.

It looked like you were going to break your violin at times.

I'll be waiting for the day you try out something from the electric string quartet Bond.

    :3

  • That was really amazing Ben. 30 minutes of actual prep time. Incredibly impressive!

  • wait a minute... buffet.. in the morning? THATS EPIC

at the end it almost sounded spanish.

  • Wow...great job Ben! Especially with only 30min of practice, haha.

  • Really good!

  • Amazing!

  • dang...ur freakin GOOD!!!...lets jam sumtime eh???...hahaha...dang, nice!

  • i just watched the original one...

and in my humble opinion it loses the jazzy feel cause you need the other instruments but other than that you still have that great technique that amuses me o.o

keep up the good work ben!! :)

  • is it just me... or can i hear you kinda gasping for air every few bowing stops...

    maybe its just me XD

  • Believe it or not, but musicians do breathe when they play!

  • i know XD but... what i mean is that you kinda hold the air... but forget it... i just think stupid things sometimes XD

and... ben... i was wondering if you have any videos in chamberhymns that talk about left hand pizzicato

  • wow.

i just love the way you play the notes and the style is so clean and perfect!

    truly amazing Ben!

  • another cool video! ^^

  • LOVED IT great playing =]

  • that was TOO cool...might wanna tone it down a bit...j/k:)

  • To 2:05 it sounds reaaaallly classical, till the end you got quite a huge amout of jazzy feel to it. I love both parts! Excellent playing, as always!
