  • Nice video. I like your notes. Hindi or not, its's still valuable as an instruction video

  • My God this is bliss!! Screw Bollywood. Let's bring back the Indian culture.

  • trippy...

  • @JacobAPeck Que veut dire "trippy"?

  • Is that man wearing a Stone Cold Steve Austin Shirt @ 0:04?

  • Kamaal hai

  • Zakir bhai lovely video

  • No words for the majestic ability to connect with common persons, expalin, enthuse, & sheer unpretentoiusness of the Maestroes Zakir & Sultan Khan !!!!

  • Please, if anyone knows the name of the song they play I'd love to have a copy of a full version of it. Also, I'm in love with that singer.

  • Lol man Muslims own the Classical Music of that area.

Nusrat Fateh, Qawalli, Allah Rakha, Zakir Hussain etc etc

  • @PlancksTime Northern India and Pakistan are as a result of taking Indian music into the courts of Muslim Mughal emperors. This tradition of Indian music was preserved by their families to this day. You may also notice the complete lack of Muslim musicians from the South; this is a result of the Mughal Empire not reaching far enough into the Subcontinent that it didn't spread Muslim culture into the South.

  • @Dzongka you forgot something called Carnatic music. Its completely a different form of sangeet, almost as rich as Hindustani. The instruments are different. The ragas are different. Some notable Carnatic maestros are Rajhesh Vaidya (veena), Vikku Vinayakram (pot) and U. Srinivas (mandolin). The Dravidian culture is different to the North Indian and Pakistani culture.

  • @giriisindahouse I know man, my family is from Madurai. I'm just reminding people that South Indian culture and music is perhaps the most pure form of Indian culture, as it reflects Indian culture before it was forcefully raped by the bastard Perso-Mongol hordes. Perhaps there were minor differences between the South and North at first, but it was only after the Mughal invasion that the North and South went on totally different tangents.I always wish for the good old days...

  • What a great video! and great presenter and wonderful singer. I am of a different faith being a catholic american but I love and appreciate all cultures for their music and love.

  • i know not a single indian can affird to speak in hindi , you cant understand hindi so better speak urdu ,urdu is also a indian laguage and witjout urdu the indian film can not survive.

    thanks

  • I wish I could understand what it's been said... But despite this language barrier, the music is amazing and the singer is unbelievably good!

  • What lanugage wanna catch you this music?

Music has no language, anyways .. ;)

Find "Zakir husain in NY" on youtube..will definately find lots of thing in English !!

  • Try this in youtube

    "Tabla Beat Science- Devotional"

  • AH marvelous "spontaneous improvising"! Bless............. All.

  • alott of you people have to get over some serious issues that are conflicting with your musical and spiritual understanding

  • Urdu and Hindi I think are simply seperate names for one language. Any differences can be attributed to differences in dialects.

  • The real question is this: is Zakir speaking Hindi or is he speaking Urdu?

  • Zakirji is speaking Hindustani. Its an amalgamation of Hindi and Urdu. Common man's language in India :)

  • shut up

  • urdu is "the child of sanskrit"

    u looser

  • shut up you Asshole !

  • why people still waste time on these issues? we are interested in his teachings and whatever language he speaks is fine with me as long as I can get what he means!

  • Zakirbhai forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • India forever.....

  • @gauravchitale rather, all nations.. but indian classical forever

  • @gauravchitale India kahan se aagaya chutiye ? music is universal

  • his father was truly spectacular too. It must run in the blood

  • Zakir Hussain is amazing!

He's playing London Barbican on Friday 19 June!

  • I wish I could understand what he is saying. He's a true master; awe-inspiring.

  • he is demonstrating teen taal(in tabla),a form of beat(16 differnt beats within it!),here he says about various combination of the teen taal and how much we can get out of different combination of 16 beats, and the same can be used with ne tune(like the singer singing raga in the video)

  • mitaas

  • who is the sarangi player?

  • the sarangi player is ustad sultan khan

  • zakir hussain looks like jimmy page, LOL.

  • LOL true

  • hahaha. gud one.

  • Look at the manners of the girl amrita, touching the ustad's feet before singing, thats the sign of a true student.

  • ur a fool man get a life just touching feet means true student need to get ur head checked man lol really maybe i recommend a feet doctor.

U can be a true student by showing dedication and respect ur master or Guru in many ways.

  • My god I am at least blessed that I am living a life in an era where people like zhakir lived :)

  • this guy is insane on tabla!! wish i could see him live

  • he performed in birmingham this year!?...

  • Magic!

  • A conceptually well done video clip. Assume the screenplay is Zakirs! A rare charismatic talent devoted to popularizing the classical Indian music, bringing it from its historical lofty pinnacle nearer to the average man, to aspiring musicians and showing its intricacies, nuances and its potential for development into new dimensions. And it all comes from one of the greatest devotees of Indian music and a master of his instruments into the bargain! What a treat! Thanks punjabiprinze!

  • punjabiprinze

    Thanks for uploading!

  • from 7 00 mins OMG!!!!!!!!!, Zakir merks it!

  • el mejor!

  • when it come to tabla.Ustaad zakir hussain name is synominos.

  • tatetika katadimin

  • यह सबसे अच्छा मैंने कभी देखा Tablista ; आगे करने का मौका था और यह जानते हैं कि आप व्यक्तिगत तौर पर एक अद्भुत व्यक्ति हैं .

  • datz wat u call INSANITY

  • i love you guys

  • Is it very important to discuss about racism or about the rank of zakir ji?

He is wonderful and a magic, materialized by sincere riyaaz. can anyone deny that?

  • i feel like crying. seriously. misteratoz! i wholly agree with you! why should we bother whether these wonderful musicians are of any race/religion? all we know is, they're BRILLIANT!

  • I don't care if he's Ustad,Pandit, Hindu, or Muslim, he's a wonderful player.

  • zakir is a great ustad

  • the rating

    1)zakir hussain

    2)tari khan

    3)tafo khan

  • please give it a break

  • dude zakir rocks!!! his taal is excellent...

  • So much racism? Why not take it elsewhere

  • idc where he is from. but he is an amazing player. it sounds good and the tabla sounds kinda outta of time

  • it sounds out of tune because it u can do other stuff on it as he presses down on it sounds more crisp

  • i agree with u

  • Zakir Hussain is the son of Ustad Alla Rakha Khan, born Alla Rakha Quereshi, born April 29, 1919, at Ratangarh, near Jammu in India. Went to study in Lahore (pre-partition); and then had a long association with AIR Delhi and Bombay film industry.

Was famous for recording with Ravi Shankar and Ustad Vilayat Khan.

So I don't know where you got the Afghan stuff; absolutely false.

  • umm, Zakir is from Phagwara,, Punjab.

He is Punjabi and speaks the language as a first.

    He is not an afgan.

  • I haven't heard somthing that stupid in a while...what does religion have to do with where you are born you dumb fuc?

  • Excellent Camera Movements

  • chi megi oh batscha?^^ hes from india!

  • @kakkaface lol yea no doubt Ustad Zakir isn't Afghanistan I'd like you to find one human on this planet that is "Afghanistan"

  • zakir makir tanımam benim darbukacım :))musti :) emeğe saygı takidi taa takidi taa

  • ustaaaaaaddd ..hii..balik ayhan

  • Thanks for sharing.

    God bless!

  • Tari khan is very good tablanawaz but Zakir is just The King of Tabla......

  • Ustad Zakir to TABLA ke khuda hain .

  • if you think ustad tari khan is better than ustad zakhir hussain you are out of your freaken mind...zakhir is the BEST.. Tari Khan is good... very good... zakhir knows much more than Tari khan.. is much cleaner faster much more creative then Tari Khan

  • Different tabla players have different strengths. Zakir is an all rounder in this sense. People always compare Tari and Zakir because these two are popular among the general public as opposed to a real expert like Nayan Ghosh whom the general public cant appreciate.

  • ok thats all good i totally get your point and agree with you especially of Nayan Ghosh... but my point is diff dude Tari khan is freaken sick he is known for what he plays alright..so is Zakhir. If you have listened to their compositions, watched/studied their videos and compared them you can easily tell that Zakhir is overall a much better player than Tari khan..

  • break everything up, tari is known for Pakistan and Zakir is known for India..

  • I wish i could have understood the video. I enjoyed it anyways.

    Thanks for posting

  • how can you tell that?

  • Have you asked ustad Tari Khan that exact question.

  • wuhahahaha

  • there is absolutely no reason to compare. this is what causes controversy, upsets people, and demeans and limits the art to competition.

  • Zakir, best of the best, who makes any musician shine....

  • Zakir Hussain jst came 2 visit my house he is my well known friend he says thnks guys 4 all ur comments i cant believe am

  • Zakir is THE maestro! This girl is singing excellent, cannot get enough of this clip!!!

  • nice tabla playing

  • Wonderful stuff! Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

  • This is so beautiful .....and zakir husain is nothing less than a maestro. It so sad to watch a great musician like him humbly asking for applause. That sums up the sad state of Indian classical music in India itself.

  • When did he ask for applause?

  • he is asking for applause at the end of the jugal bandi. when he says that is encouraging for us musicians to hear appreciation. as eventually that forms a part of the environment and facilitates the spontaneity.

  • You mean the 3rd video? Yes unfortunately the lay audience dont always know to appreciate the taal system with the rhythm. They only look out for spectacular sounds.

  • Dear punjabiprinze, i am moved to tears when seeing this clip. Thanks a ton for posting! It's so wonderful to see Ustad Zakir Hussain like this, so much private. It's a great inspiration for me to hear and see Amrita singing, awesome!!!

  • Good God, is that Jimmy Page?????

  • This man trully is amazing.

  • very sweeet ................

  • This is a great clip. Where is it from? I'd love to find more like this.
