@Andreas19997 I disagree. The Dutch had their goal which was unlike the British. Sure, we wanted colonies. The only thing is we didn't fight for areas that were already colonized by people from another nation, while the British did. More and more areas in the Americas were taken over by the British, The entire French colonization there was swepped away. If we fought indeed for already posessed land then yes, Dutch might have been the language of the world. And we traded it for Surinam btw.
What a Magnificent Ship.Today I saw almost 400 year ship when first Hendrick Hudson traveled through the river which is named after him. In an honur of that day old ships like this one were sailing from the city to Albany New York. Sorry to bother you guys with my excperience but i just liked them so much.
Mystic Connecticut does a few. They built the freedom schooner Amistad as well as the education vessel Quinnipiack, both of which are based out of New Haven CT. They're also restoring the last of the american whaling vessels the Charles W. Morgan which should be finished by 2010 at the latest but I heard she may be sailable in the end. There are also a few places in Europe I believe that make metal tallships but I'm not a huge fan of those. I believe there are a few Steel hulled
And don't forget Götheborg III, the largest wooden sailing ship in the world (I think...) on which I worked as a deckhand this summer. Amazing ship! See info on wikipedia.

@barthoedemaker
But in that time New Amsterdam wasn't really that big.
So they sold it to the British.
A big mistake, otherwise Dutch could have been the language of the world now O___o
