  • He is so emotionally intelligent, and I wish I had discovered mindfulness 30 years ago:)

  • No, this is not an opinion. It is very real but not easy to convince others. We are what our past experiences have made us and we are driven by that programming. Like riding a rogue elephant, we have to gain control or else we are taken where we prefer not to go. I have meditated for some time and I realize that one can only benefit if there is a desire to gain control of an ungoverned mind.

  • I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet, but I absolutely love the background to this video. He is giving this talk not from some high place, some ivory tower, or exalted plane, but right from in the midst of it all. People going about their daily lives, walking here and there, all with their own ends, triumphs, and defeats on their shoulders. It is truly refreshing to see

  • Very good video ! Thank you for sharing .

  • As a Nichiren Buddhist I just want to say: Thank you Jon!

I am on my own way to enlightenment, but we are all Buddhas an we are all connected and we can learn from each other. Thank you for giving me the right approach to manage my eating disorder. It is working because now I am paying much more attention to what I am eating. This is helping me.

  • I feel like stating an opinion. Fuck it.

  • I agree that whether you gain inner peace and a better understanding of self from Zinn/Tole or whomever it makes no difference. Just be glad that you were introduced to them and that they've made an impact to your life. I'm sure that's all they would wish...to make a difference.

  • That's equally scientifically AMAZING as you Mr. John Kabat-Zinn are AMAZING. You changed my life, and I'll always honour you and be grateful and remeber you for that. Thank you for making my life experience beautiful equally as you're changing the emotional climate to the modern society that I'm living in. You truelly are a wonder!

  • Saying that Tolle ripped off Zinn is like saying Zinn ripped off Buddha. Ridiculous statement.. In my opinion, it's just great to be hearing this message from whatever source. the clinical psychological community are coming to a meeting point with 'ancient' eastern philisophical/spiritual teachings. That is good news as we in the West trust science more than anything approaching the 'spiritual'.

  • taoist

  • Jon has done a wonderful work in understanding the mindfulness and doing intellectual reasoning but he should also mention that these concepts and ideas are all taken from ZEN BUddhism. that will put him in a better picture.

  • @PCSKAKU I don't think it really matters though. It isn't a contest on who said what first. The message is the most important thing. Besides, I am sure he has namechecked ZEN before. Would be surprised if he hadn't.

  • @PCSKAKU You find all these things in most ancient religions, it's not Zen speciaist per se. And I think that's the very thing he's trying to avoid by not mentioning Zen at all - because that's really not the point. It's correct out of the most known modern religions, zen buddism does offer the most direct contact with the water - or consciousness, however, the consciousness and the wonder of life existed long before zen and will also outlive zen if it ever have to.

  • Yes animals are not as aware as humans and then enlightened humans are a step further.

  • what about when you have a hamburger?

  • Yep whoever said thinking is really important was nuts

  • Classic teachings

  • what an exceptional man. he truly radiates compassion and kindness.

  • This reminds me of Eckhart Tolle's teaching. It's fantastic, I will definitely get Jon's book(s). Simple and to the point.

  • @tricksie88 Tolle is a fraud. He ripped off Zinn. GO back to your Oprah!

  • Very interesting and inspiring. Thanks for posting. I will add this in my favourites-list. :-)

  • very interesting!

  • It's about Philosophy. Einstein was saying that at his time, that people were only exploring 10% of their potential. That's why we get the strange looks when we have an innovative idea, or an attitude that is fine but stands out: think out of the conventional box, think within yourself, the key is within us, always, not trying to run against the clock or obey. One step beyond, always, we exist as many, there are answers in each one of us, let's listen to us the People. And children!
