Incredible sound for a cheap sax (And Rico bluebox is also a modest reed). Only another question, what ligature are you using? (Rovner Light, Rovner Dark, Etc.)? A DV8 es a very open tip, so it could tend to sound too much brilliant, but yuor sound is brillient but with good roundness with a controlated (moderated for that opening tip) brilliance.
@uvazquez2010 Thanks! It's a Rovner lig, but I do not know if it's the dark or the light. It's the stock lig Jody ships, or was before he switched to the slip ring ling. I warm up, then practice something (scales, arpeggios) at FFF, I mean LOUD! Then play it MF, the PPP. Because I pushed myself a little (like an athlete might), I have more air to give, more left over, and ultimately everything I do sounds more supported, round and full. Try it! Your Air=Your Sound, at least to me anyway :)
THANKS! Believe it or not I used a cheap backup horn for this. It's the lowest model Unison they make (ST200?) I did it to show a few students it's NOT the horn, it's the player. Anyone can sound full and round if you just fill it up with air. Now I admit, my mouthpiece is a Jody Jazz DV8, it's expensive but awesome. Reeds, I think I used LaVoz Med or Med-Soft, or Rico Bluebox #3, can't remember. The horn I normally play pro gigs with is a Yamaha 62 mk2 and it's sweet!
