Somewhere over a Rainbow Chet and Les are playing for a crowd of millions of good souls. While good people like Abe Lincoln and Martin Luther King simply sit and listen.
The electric tone of Les Paul here is very atmospheric and clear, reminds me of a much more modern sound, like Frisell, Metheny, or Stern. I dig. Just a beautiful arrangement with a lot of sensitivity, which is much harder to communicate than heat.
This old tune is as old as dirt, but look how two utter masters of the guitar made it so interesting and beautiful to listen to. It;s almost like I never heard it before this. About 100 years of experience combined here to create a brand new "Over the Rainbow" that will live a long-long time.
GuitarRecords on ebay used to carry "Chester and Lester" check them out. They also had "Me and Jerry" & Me and Chet" 2 excellent duet offerings from Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed.
I first heard this rendition when I was 14 years old and into Pantera, Sepultura, and god knows what else. It changed me completely. I still love some great metal here and there (Pantera, Opeth, Amon Amarth, Decapitated, etc), but this song made me L-O-V-E Chet and Les. Then I got into Stevie Ray Vaughan shortly thereafter and now I am a committed fan of clean, glassy tones. To me, it doesn't get any better than this tone wise. RIP Les and RIP Chet.

The newest release has 14 tracks. Not what I'd add on to th e original 10 tracks but it it still a great cd.

Music like this is a National Treasure.
This is off the Guiitar Monster album, Kind of difficult to find. Dunno who owns the copyright's. Wish they'd re-release it.
Thank you, the very much still alive Les Paul and sadly the late Chet Atkins.

Thanks for this. It's a beauty. As I said, Chet can make anything sound better than the original.
