For what it's worth, I consider St. Eustache to be the finest organ in Paris, far superior to Notre Dame and St. Suplice. The only organ clearly superior to this in the French Symphonic literature is St. Ouen in Rouen. According to my ears, the third-ranking organ (again, in the French Romantic literature) is Katarina Church in Stockholm, which is also by van den Heuvel.
Pere Franck would have found the sound of this organ to be a bit steely - even with the glorious acoustic, there is a reason why there aren't many recordings here.
Organists need to be rationed on the use of the 32' pedal reed - no more than 1 minute per hour.... :-)
This is just my opinion, but I think the sound of most 32' pedal reeds becomes tiresome quickly. The only 32' reeds I really like are by Cavaille-Coll (no surprise there) and Ladegast.
Also - Franck had no 32' Bombarde at Ste. Clotilde - the Trocadero organ had one though.
My point of contention lies within the dynamics used by the performer. First of all, he is not listening to the instructions of Franck by doing whatever the hell he pleases. While I understand there is artistic license, it comes with responsibility. Speed is debatable, but I WOULD like to be able to hear the lovely notes Franck wrote. Second, even though he is at St. Eustache, it does NOT give him a divine right to through every thing on throughout the entire piece. Variety would be appreciated!
Furthermore, an example of a recording I would appreciated is that of Kent Tritle, Marcel Dupre (which is quite liberal even for Franck), and that of Jon Gillock.
I agree with you. Artists who play other composers music , be it an instrument or even a choir, interpret the music totally different sometimes from all others. What's the big deal? This guy plays beautifully and the piece was awesome.
Wonderful playing of Franck!! Great tempo and drive! How blessed Paris is to have so many talented organists in her midsts as well as so many many magnificent organs with this one being among the newest!
Perfect posture on the bench, with no dramatics.and perfect economy of movement with the feet on the pedal board. I am always amazed at the musicians who can play these pieces with NO MUSIC on the stand!!!!
This is beautiful, but the best recording of Choral #3 is on a CD entitled 'Organ Showpieces from St. Paul's Cathedral', Andrew Lucas, organist, Naxos CD # 8.550955. Amust have for serious organ lovers, a grand recording...........Peace

I really don't understand your point of view, sorry.
With which other interpretation do you compare ?
Sorry again, I like this interpretation, maybe there is better, but you cannot say that it is bad...
