I am tired of the BJJ fan boys crying and making excuses for thier idol getting his ass beat. The fact is it happens. Every fighter and every style has a bad day at the office. Don't lecture people about respecting a legend, why should we. Roycedid not respect the legends that came before them (Funakoshi, Yoshiba, Kano). instead they beat their chest and said they were the badest in the jungle and now it is almost routine to see a Gracie getting their asses handed to them.

In those matches he would disrespect his opponents by holding onto chokes and submissions long after they would tap. In an interview with Royce after UFC 4 in Blackbelt Magazine Royce was asked if they owed a debt to the Japanese for their Jujitsu and he replied "We owe nothing to the Japanese. Nothing." This arrogant bastard deserves to get his ass beat and disrespected.
If the truth be said the game has passed the Gracies by. I don't want to hear about how Royce in his prime may have faired better the truth is the reason we don't respect him as a legend is because he came on the scene disrespectfully. He challenged Judo Gene Labelle to a match (an old man) Gene responded in an open letter in Black Belt that he accepted the Gracie challenge but wanted to fight someone his age Rellio Gracie. The challange was never accepted.
They shouldn't have let him fight Matt Hughes. If they gave him a softer opponent for his comeback, he might have won, but recognized he couldn't compete anymore or something.
If Royce fought Hughes back in UFC 1-5 he would have won in minutes with the good ol Triangle. Now Hughes has the same grappling-for-fighting skill set, except Hughes is a freak-of-nature athlete

To be honest there are only so many different ways you can move an arm anyway so the crossover is huge - BJJ may not be his MAIN style, but he does train in it...if only to prepare himself for his opponents who DO use BJJ.

He was paid $400,000 dollars for this fight, I feel like the extra was to reassure that Gracie would promote Matt Hughes.. come on, if you watched his earlier fights, he did quick take downs, quick submissions, not dance around the ring and stand there.. there was no problem with this fight. He caught people off surprise in the first UFCs and then fighters evolved and he didnt. His standup sucks, he punches like a girl, and bjj guys suck at takedowns. I have trained in Tang Soo Do, Taekwondo, and Jiu-jitsu for many years. Unless you are Jet Li in a movie, you are not taking on a group of people. @FORBAN2 Incorrect. If you're fighting 3 guys they will most likely try to take you to the ground so they can completely dominate you. You need to know some form of ground fighting so that you can quickly submit one guy and move on to the other attackers or get out of mounts so that you can stand up and start striking again.

To be honest there are only so many different ways you can move an arm anyway so the crossover is huge - BJJ may not be his MAIN style, but he does train in it...if only to prepare himself for his opponents who DO use BJJ.

Sorry to say this, but I really did feel that this match was fixed. He was paid $400,000 dollars for this fight, I feel like the extra was to reassure that Gracie would promote Matt Hughes.. come on, if you watched his earlier fights, he did quick take downs, quick submissions, not dance around the ring and stand there.. Don't worry MMA fans, boxing and practically any combat sport does this, it is to draw larger crowds and take in a larger income.

there was no problem with this fight. He caught people off surprise in the first UFCs and then fighters evolved and he didnt. His standup sucks, he punches like a girl, and bjj guys suck at takedowns. I can say shit cuz i do bjj but i noticed their takedowns were horrible so now i am compelled to do wrestling which im glad im starting next week, as for striking im thikin of muay thai and boxing.

I have trained in Tang Soo Do, Taekwondo, and Jiu-jitsu for many years. Unless you are Jet Li in a movie, you are not taking on a group of people. If so, then you are either fighting mentally challenged people, or you need to be placed into a military program, and dubbed weapon X. Kicking people only pisses them off unless you get a KO. Good luck being able to do that 100% of the time!

@FORBAN2 Incorrect. If you're fighting 3 guys they will most likely try to take you to the ground so they can completely dominate you. You need to know some form of ground fighting so that you can quickly submit one guy and move on to the other attackers or get out of mounts so that you can stand up and start striking again.

Maybe there's a boxer who did well against multiple attackers, but that doesnt mean every boxer would fair the same. Maybe grappling isnt the best option, but that doesnt mean there isnt a grappler who could defend against mult. opps. If the guy is a tough ass dude maybe he could defend himself, but it all comes down to his skill level vs the opponent's skills. Not necessarily the style he fights.

I then reiterate my comment, that the section about 'every police and military' force is incorrect. jiujitsu, Judo and now BJJ is often used in Amreica, but it is not exclusive. In fact Navy seals use a combination of Akido and JiuJitsu. in other countrys many other martial arts are used by elite police and special forces.

i gotta disagree just a lil bit. BJJ is a great grappling base to have yes, but there are others just as effective. atleast that have shown to be. Sambo,obviously fedor uses it well taktarov did in the past aswell. and of course Saku showed catch wrestling can be a good base aswell.
