Have you experienced any problems yet? Iv'e seen some report of a lens error issue in SX130IS after using CHDK... I LOVED CHDK on my powershot A590.. In your opinion, do you think CHDK will work just fine on a Powershot SX150IS?
@rayofminneapolis I have been using it for over 6 months now, no errors. I recently upgraded to the newest version, again no problems. I use it when I need, and I also use the default firmware all other times. My best advice is to see what other SX150IS users think. Based on SX130, I would be optimistic!
@RizHail Using this method, you select Firmware Update on every boot. This gives you the advantage of booting CHDK (when you need it) or the default firmware (by default). Let us know how it works.
It's amazing!! I tried it on my "German"- SX130IS and it works. I'd to advise to copy the whole CHDK-Dir to the SD-Card. After that the menu looks much better and it has language packs. For example: German, French, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Turkish... and so on.
But the best thing is, that the camera start without CHDK. So it's possible to give the cam your grilfriend. ;-) But all changes will be available, when you make an Firmware-Update again.
I have a 2gb SD card and when I shoot RAW it takes about 2 seconds to save the photo. Would purchasing a class 10 SDHC card speed up the process or the slow processing is the camera's limitation?
@avdeveloper 2 seconds is normal for RAW in CHDK on this camera. A class 6 is recommended for 720 video I believe, and class 10 even faster. I've tested class 6 and 10 in this camera and is no difference for 720p video or raw shooting as far as I can tell.
When I shoot raw, there is heavy image distortion and vignetting. Is there any program/software that automatically corrects the lens distortions like in LightRoom?
@avdeveloper For RAW photos, I also notice some distortion and vignetting when zoomed all the way out. This happens because the RAW file captures all of the sensor information, and there is no correction. You will also notice slightly more of the frame present in the RAW, which i like. LightRoom and Photoshop can fix this. In Photoshop CS5 I go to Filter/Lens Correction...
@rsmrt Yes, I do like how I can get more of the frame despite the distortion. However, it would be a hassle if I were to correct the distortion photo by photo. Is there anyway to automate that in post-processing?
i've got the same camera and followed the steps and everything worked until it was time to start the time lapse, then during the *starting* an error popped up in the top left that does not allow the time lapse to start.
could it have to do with CHDK's download page having 3 different versions? at 0:38 it shows you having the same 3 options but it doesn't show which one you downloaded. Are 1.01C 1.01D 1.01F all the same?
@thatboywhite Thanks for the comment, hope you are enjoying your camera. The trick is to identify which version of the Canon firmware your camera came with. It would be one of those three. There are some people discussing how to identify your firmware on my forum (link in the comment). I hope that answers it, let me know how it goes. I bet you just need the right CHDK version and it should work.
i have same camera model (canon SX 130is) as you, i extract the files into SDHC, but when i press SET button to reboot my camera, it doesn't do anything :S it appear turn off.
@migas024 Yes, you may need to check the firmware version of your camera, and download the most updated matching CHDK version from the CHDK website. There is someone that solved this issue on my forum, see the description for the link. Let me know if that fixes it!
hi @rsmt.. im using the same camera as you.. powershotsx130is, im trying to make my own time lapse shot.. the values on the intervalometers are all 0s.. except for infinity(endless)1, review on the camera (after taking a photo) is also zero.. but the interval per photo as i checked is still 4 seconds.. is there a fix to this?
sorry cant delete the older post.. not a spammer.. LOL
the camera is realy taking a long time to get ready and i need it to be 1 second or 2 seconds interval..
@dondef It sounds like the camera is taking a long time between pictures. To get better camera speed, use manual mode, and manual focus. Also, make sure you disable RAW. The camera takes a while to process RAW. Remember this camera is not that fast, but I think you can get 2s. You can also lower the image quality to get better performance, but you probably don't want to do that.
@dondef Yes, when you turn it off it goes back to the old firmware because it doesn't boot the card. I like this much better for CHDK. Basically, you must load the firmware when you want to use it. This works in most cases because you will likely not shoot raw all the time with a point-and-shoot.

@rsmt.. can i go back to the old firmware if this doesnt work out for me? my camera is the same as yours.. sx130is..
dondef 5 months ago
@rsmt.. ok nevermind.. i know that it goes back to the old firmware everytime you turn the camera off..
and about RAW DNG format 2:03.. CREATE BAD PIXEL.. instead of using REC(video) which didnt work for me, I used AUTO.. then it worked..
dondef 5 months ago
@dondef Yes, when you turn it off it goes back to the old firmware because it doesn't boot the card. I like this much better for CHDK. Basically, you must load the firmware when you want to use it. This works in most cases because you will likely not shoot raw all the time with a point-and-shoot.
