For the movie, search for Dillon Stevens. That's your Ender. He's an amazing actor and his dancing skills (control of his whole body) will be needed for the Zero Gravity Battle School scenes. Dillon could easily span the age range. Look at him.
Don't forget to buy and enjoy "The Authorized Ender Companion" (by Jake Black). I have an entire chapter (as well as additional drawings and renderings) on the Technology of Ender's Game.
You'll find my drawing on the back cover, as well.
(PS--the beautiful line-art drawing of the armored Battle School is not by me--it's by D. Robbins. I had informed the publisher, but this attribution was, unfortunately, omitted)
No i get that that's your name. And I don't really care if you have copyright to it or not. I was merely being stupid and sticking my nose where it doesn't belong. Es tut mir leid.
Marvel Comics is also using my design as the basis for their own rendition of the Battle School in their Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow comics series.
If you go to their website, and look for "Battle School #2 Preview", you can see their version.
And it's OK that it should look like mine...we worked that out.
wow theyr using your design? thats pretty cool. i love the book i really hope the movie will be good... has it already been made cuz everywere i look are fanmade trailers, not real ones....do you know anytrhing about a movie?
I've been a fan of the books ever since I read EG roughly 15 years ago! I don't have any "inside track" on the EG movie, except that I have read that OSC is working on a screenplay again.
But I like to say that Marvel is well known for taking their comic book properties and making some excellent films out of them!
I just hope they talk to me about the Battle School first...as much as I love "what they've done with it" in the comic, I'm still not entirely sure that they can actually fit any of the battle rooms into it (I *can*).
I like this, though I wish there was more of it (I know it already took a lot of time). Check out the Ender in Exile video somewhere on here (new Ender book); it uses images from the Marvel comic, and I'm starting to think an animated Ender's Game movie wouldn't be bad (although I'd prefer live action).
I'm Currently Working on a Screenplay of Enders game/ Shadow, Because as both books are based roughly around the same time (Bean and Ender Work together ) You could go back and forth between both Of the Amazing Hero's in one Movie, which is my plan, and Title it under 'Ender's Game' Its brilliant if i do say so my self.
I seem to recall the possibility odf a third ring weas mentioned by Bean in "Ender's Shadow," after he had done some research on-board. Not critical to the story line OR the school design; the thought was raised just to highlight how the kids could not trust the administrative staff for good info.
Never read about FOUR rings, though. By the time the later novels came out, Card and I had already discussed THIS design...
It would be of been more rewarding if the gate opened up and there was a blast of light; then have "Ender's Game: The Movie... coming soon" or something like that.
And there is a legitimate concern over two vs. three "rings." But (IIRC) Bean acknowledges that the charts he saw might have been old and obsolete. But, most of all, two rings work! The nine battle rooms divide naturally into 3 groups of 3, and then the two rings separate them out. Plus, the additional room provided by a third ring appears to be unecessary (there's plenty of usable real-estate without it). So...it all adds up to two rings.
The visuals and the general outline of the battle school is good (shouldn't there be more rings like he said in Ender's Shadow when Bean discovers an emergency escape floor plan? not that it really matters...). I have to agree with maggosh about the music though. It doesn't seem to fit with the story. This music would possibly work with certain parts of the movie, but not showing battle school like a wonderful place. I think the music should be more stern and serious, not necessarily rock tho ;)
Yes, I did. ES was incorporated into the design of the Battle School as best as it could be (you may note the three ring/two ring controversy, below).
Card also incorporated some early dimensions to the Battle Rooms from earlier on-line discussions on Frescopictures; the Battle Rooms in ES are statred to be 100m on a side (I've since convinced myself that 75m/side works a little better).
i just red the book and it was cool but this trailer dident really mke sense to me. I thought this trailer was lame, but i bet the movies gonna be good :P
It's really more of a study, or a pre-viz, of the Battle School, rather than a trailer. i really didn't put it together to have much of an emotional impact, other than "that's way the hell cool!"
The station is just another standard, non-descript, non-specific "Space Station-sized" thing. It's obvious that it doesn't rotate, since it has asymmetric antennae coming off the upper right side, and interconnecting vertical tubes between all the short, cylindrical "decks".
Not much of any other possibly meaningful components hanging off of it, such as docking ports, weapons, etc.
I think OSC once said, of the earlier covers from EG and such that there's a couple of sci-fi cover artists that just draw semi-random sci-fi looking objects that rarely, if ever, have even the slightest thing to do with the story.
It's one of those. At least it looks like it might be a space station.
Card and I aren't "friends" if that's what you mean. We're...acquaintances, at best. I've met him about 3 or 4 times, sent/received a dozen or so e-mails, plus I talked with him at some book signings, and (I must say) at lunch during EnderCon.
But it's pretty much always been about the books; it's not like he's saying (or I'm saying), "So, how's the wife and kids...?"
We're certainly friendly, but we haven't ever just sat down, played cards (no pun) and talked about nothing.
No, the Battle School has nine Battle Rooms. The simulation shows nine Battle Rooms. You are entering the shuttle dock at the end of the sequence. there is a similar dock on the far side. The one possible criticism you might have raised is that the simulation only has 2 habitation rings ("wheels"), and Bean believes that there may be three, but that only 2 are known and accessible to the students. Bean is wrong. I worked it out with OSC.
I havent read Speaker for a number of years, now (I finally found my copy, so I'll be reading it again after HP7, Empire, and another read of EG). It's a totally different Ender, so you know. Older, but still haunted. It's got a great bunch of characters in it, totally different from EG. I still like EG and ES more, but many fans like Speaker as much as EG! Definitely go for it!

perfect in every way but i almost picture battle school as more of a halo with a large orb connected to it in the middle.
and whats the song?
KipSP 3 years ago
Thanks!
The song is Enya's "Far and Away."
I tried a halo (not "Halo") approach, but packing 9 battle rooms in a ring makes it HUGE. Plus spheres suck for packing interior space (IMHO).
Boothby171 3 years ago
It's not perfect only two Circles, used in this, when I remember there being more than four but only five Accessible to students, Either way lol

Actually, a bunch of the launchies thought there might have been a third habitation ring, but were never really sure...

With my limited time and skills, there was no way I was going to be able to put together a story-based trailer!
One day, I'll put together the precursor to this scene--the launch of the shuttle from below the belly of the earth.

Luv2ReadProductions 3 years ago

Funny. Now that you say those things, they all seem obvious. It still has a coolness factor that appeals to me though.
But if a movie is ever made, I'd prefer plausability over coolness. Thanks for posting this vid by the way.
Luv2ReadProductions 3 years ago
What? More cool than MINE!?
Boothby171 3 years ago
Let me rephrase that. Plausability has an inherrent coolness that trumps stylistic artistry. :)
...so you win.

Phew! That was close!
The question is...will Hollywood value plausability-related coolness over general "Coolness"?
(Big fan of plausibility-based coolness, myself, obviously!)
