Sautille and Spiccato are not the same stroke. Sautille refers to "flying spiccato". Where as Spiccato just means "off the string". It really doesn't matter which direction ur circular motion is done. I've seen cellist do clockwise or counter-clockwise. Have students try both and see which seems more natural for them.
