I don't go much on Barbara Kellerman's portrayal these days. As a kid, the series was superb and Kellerman's witch was terrifying. Now, Kellerman's portrayal just seems overplayed, the rage outbursts seem comical and the straight-and-narrow following of the book just felt forced. It's easy to criticise the Walden Media production for its deviations from the original source material, but watching both makes you realise why they did, and TBH I prefer Swinton's more "seductive" Witch.
Thanks heaps for this!! Barbara is actually really pretty and looks heaps young--as the White Witch she looks about 50 but without all the makeup you can see she's just a natural beauty.
@Brendio3768 Is that because you saw the recent version first? I usually prefer whichever movie I've seen first, and because I grew up with this movie, I think it's awesome. If I'd come across it NOW, I'd probably think it was shit.
@Brendio3768 The old versions are closer to the stories than the new ones. These old ones are at time word for word from the book whereas the new ones created their own subpolts and rearrange the story however they wish. Also the animations were stated of the art at the time, the special effectf os today will no doubt be described as 'terrible' by the next generation.
Barbara Kellerman is the definitive White Witch. She and Tilda Swinton are brilliant, although I feel as though Barbara's portrayal is more faithful to the novel.
@gogetyourverb I don't think her characterization is more faithful, but she definitely LOOKS more like the White Witch that the book described. I really don't get the blonde hair in the newer one.
While I do agree, I feel that Tilda's interpretation was a bit scarier, whereas with Barbara, I actually in places found her funny (...THE WHOLE OF NARNIA WILL BE OVERTURNED, AND PERISH IN FIRE AND WATERRRRRR!). I think it was a fair interpretation, just kind of hammy.

I don't like those old version movies. The animations were terrible and they were way off the books original story line.

@paulzrulz Well actually, I'm listening to her and I do see what you mean about the voice. They do sound alot alike, though Georgie's more animated.

YES.
Sorry, Tilda. You're just not the White Witch. Plus, you're blonde. And Jadis is dark.
