It's great seeing a younger Vince Gill with long hair and a beard.
Man, I remember all of these top 10 songs except for Robbie Dupree's Hot Rod Hearts. None of these are big favorites for me, but still a pretty good selection of songs.
@zachhoran - actually yes it is. If you listen, during the intro, Dionne says this is an encore presentation of an episode as their way of wishing us a Happy New Year.
PPL rocks this one ... Vince is doing solid tight tune with the band , and the Solid Gold Dancers kept our eyes on the little square tv set "Back in the day " .. maybe even more than the bands did ! Still hot today too..
yeah, well, vince gill replacing the original lead is about like donny osmond replacing mick jagger on the stones. i was kinda surprised seeing the title of this clip talking about pure prairie league in 81- thought that was a little late.
Recognize Vince Gill?? many people don't know he was the replacement lead singer for the original lead. I met him at a Milwaukee Fest concert, around 1983, he wasn't known then!!!!! WOW did that change. Also marshall Tucker and Firefall were on the playbill. been a fan of his ever since!!! Had backstage passes to it, how cool, 20,000 people look'in up at ya!!!! Never forget it!!!!
@dlrmo6370 you know it really irks me when people come back 30 years later and knock something simply because the styles and tastes have changed. You wouldn't watched it back then if you thought it was cheesy and at that time it was a great show that lasted almost a decade. Just like watching old 50's horror movies (like THE BLOB) - the height of technology at the time. Just because we advanced doesn't make it less than it was AT THAT POINT IN TIME.
OMG!!! Look at this young, hairy Vince Gill!!!! LOL This almost too funny to watch!!!! Good thing you did go to Nashville Vince, this moment is proof enough!!!
This is the line-up that recorded the top 10 hit, "Let Me Love You Tonight". The look on Gill's face while these chic 80's babes are dancing around him is priceless!!!
The bassist (if I am correct) is Craig Fuller, who had an association with the band 'Little Feat' and the guitarist on vocals for this song is Vince Gill.
I see no mention anywhere for a Ken Gradney anywhere in Pure Prairie League.
Not only was Vince Gill in this band, he nearly became a member of the band Dire Straits. Mark Knopfler wanted him, but Vince decided he wanted to try to make it in Nashville.
Now we know what happened to Gary Owens after Laugh-In!

I wonder what the band thought of those dancers flopping all around them while they are trying to do their thing...

In an interview, Vince Gill said he got in trouble with the producers because they didn't want the singers to look at the dancers.

All right, Vince, pretty good lip-sync! And to hear you handling your own background vocals at the same time...now that's talent!

THis is probably from the rebroadcast, which would have aired on 12/27/80 or 1/3/81.

I saw PPL, David Allan Coe, and Grinderswitch together about 1980. I guess Vince would have been with PPL at that time?
