Been watching that vid in amazement since years... I come to label that the "soul detector". If a musician doesn't get the greatness of this, he ain't got soul, simple as that. You nailed that Al Jackson gunshot backbeat... plus that album was incredible. Mad props !

people keep saying he is texing and drumming at the same time he must be in human or something to drum with both hands and still text open your eyes you fucking dummies.
What's crazy is ?uest manages to move the cam, keep on beat, asks if they're rolling, comes back and still is on beat after some substantial bantering. SAY WHAT??!! Talking and still on beat...blows my mind.
I can't imagine they were using a click track. Human metronome?
?uestlove usually plays to a double time 'polka' rhythm (which he likes to call it) click while he's tracking drums - my guess is just like the Voodoo album, he's prolly doing it here as well..
Notice how he doesn't show us his 'secret' setup?? lol, u know he gotta T-shirt over the snare..
Al Jackson JR was my biggest influence eventhough I could never ever get as close to his backbeat as you are here.
Nice work, sure love to see more. ( some of those classic
"Let's Stay Together" tom actions. There's a great Keltner Quote out there somewhere about him using Al's kit on the Wither's sessions and how exited he was to see how Al got that sound. It was all in his soul, no tricks, just a kinda average snare, but made into magic by one man.
Man it's a shame you had to take off that pharell video. That shit was absolutely hilarious. Congrats on working with Mr. Green can't wait to hear it.
