  • Alfie could sing the phone book...and I'd buy the CD

  • Where is his beard and long hair D:?

  • @Acoontey look at the upload date -- this was 4.5 years ago. long before Les Mis. Alfie's star was still rising at this point.

  • JOHNNY MATHIS VERSON MAKES YOURS LOOK SICK

  • @MrVampiredog When Johnny Mathis sings this he's promoting himself and his concerts. Alfie was here to promote the ENO's 'Kismet.' So he's bound to perform it as he would in the show, as 'KIsmet's' director wanted. Couldn't have done too badly. Understand there were so many requests, Parkinson's show did one of its first digital downloads for this song.

  • Alfie Boe is an outstanding performer. I saw Les Miserables 2 weeks ago, his performance as Jean Valjean was so moving, especially when he sang Bring Him Home.

  • I will buy every fricking CD this wonderful tenor has! I LOVE HIS VOICE!

  • Before I die, I WILL hear this man sing live.

  • ALFIE BOE ♥ absolutely in love with him..

  • He's fine but WOW WHAT AN ORCHESTRA!

  • He's fine but WOW WHAT AN ORCHESTRA!

  • OR DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE URL FOR THE SONG FROM YOUR EIMAIL TO ITUNES???? HOPE IM NOT VIOLATING ANY TRADEMARK OR COPYRIGHT INFRIGNEMENT!

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO DOWNLOAD TO IPHONE? I CHECKED ON ITUNES, AND THEY DON'T HAVE ALFIE BOE'S VERSION OF STRANGER IN PARADISE!! ONLY THE MORE SO-CALLED POPULAR SINGERS, NONE AS GOOD AS ALFIE!! THANKS

  • Love it when he smiles and sings at the same time. Wow.

  • so effortless

  • This is what you call gold! I can't stop listening to him!

  • Great! great! great! ...This is a superb interpretation!!! ..It's amazing how reminds me of a young Michael Douglas!

  • And my dear friends, that is how a tenor of the first magnitude sounds... like sweet honey to one's ears!

  • Only just caught up with this guys talent from the Les Mis vid and had to find out what I missed. I LOVE this song and this version takes my breath away, thanks Alfie, great start to a new year and new decade

  • I'm following Alfie and stunned at the comments about Nick Jonas on various different comments/blogs. I know 9 year old girls are allowed to post comments, but why mention Nick Jonas in the same breath as talented artists? Go back to your X-Factor clips, and leave your ignorant comments there...

  • Yes, Nick Jonas was a disappointment. 2-4-6-0-1!!!!!

  • @koalasarah nick jonas was NOT a disappointment, he was definitely one of the best marius's i have ever seen

  • @seherrocks Then you don't know les miserables history. I never want to hear "Nick Jonas" and "the best" in the same sentence ever again :-P

  • @jamesm406 nick jonas is the best, hate all you want, but you are just deluding yourself, you know he was amazing, you just wont say it. so sad :)

  • @seherrocks Why is there a discussion about Nick Jonas here? He isn't in this video.

  • He should really grow the beard he had in les mis 25th anniversary it really suited him, and michael is right one of the best singers for a generation

  • @cibickerstaff believe me, having a beard is annoying! LOL!

  • @cibickerstaff This was performed in 2007, long before Alfie took on the role of Valjean

  • Bravo

  • he is so amazing I love his voice. Saw him in les miserables 25th anniversary. Best I've seen! Nick Jonas was a big disappointment.

  • @igloobabe2 nick jonas was perfection

  • @seherrocks

    Shut up about Nick Jonas! This is ALFIE BOE not NICK JONAS singing. Go to one of his videos if you want to debate whether he was good or not.;

  • We saw him do the matinee. Fantastic!!

  • He is amazing, saw him last night as Jean Valjean in the 25th Anniversary Les Mis concert. Phenomenal, esp when the 4 Valjean's sang bring him hom :)

  • @welshtigger saw him too goosebumps moment. That jonas brother was poor.

  • @MOCONKLIN Now I realized why the Jonas kid got clobbered. You have this Alfie Boe doing Jean Valjean and then you have Lea Salonga giving the performance of a lifetime as Fantine. Well, Jonas talent will certainly suffer!

  • @alexmz123 Jonas brothers - I wouldnt feel guilty about throwing an unpinned hand grenade in their direction :-P

  • @MOCONKLIN Jonas Bro was beyond poor. He was into "How are you allowed to open your mouth?" territory

  • @MOCONKLIN The jonas brother was absolute shite! :-P He was so quiet in the concert, they turned up his volume on the DVD lol I can't understand why they would have such an amazing cast and put someone like him in for Marius? He barely qualified for choir! Enough moaning about it now.. I agree with you. lol

  • whats happened to him?

  • @mtenor He just played Val Jean at the 25th Anniversary of Les Miserables at the O2, I don't think you have to worry about him! :D

  • @dubovie good to know thanks for the info.......I trained with him at Opera school....

  • BRAVISIMO DEAR SIR :D

  • But its a russian Opera song. "Polovets Dances".

Why they speak about its like about english??

  • Polovtsian Dances -Borodin

  • @rusbp Because some English-speakers took much of Borodin's music and made a musical (*very* light operetta) of it. Polvetsian Dances has a chorus in the opera, not a solo tenor as here. The words are not from the Russian opera, either.

And most people in the UK and US are completely ignorant of Borodin and his music.

  • came onto this to see what Alfie was like, after hearing this morning that he will be Jean Valjean in the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Miserables at the 02 Arena on Sunday 3rd October 2010. I have no worries for him now. What a beautiful voice.

  • Love the back up band!

  • While the key change was taken out for this particular performance, I still think that he is fantastic...

  • The best version I've ever heard so far. Thanks so much for sharing. I truly enjoyed listening to his voice. Marvelous!!!

  • Love this song and love the way Alfie sings it.

  • I've always loved this song! I remember the first time I saw the movie "Kismet" with Vic Damone and Ann Blythe, it was magical and Mr. Boe your performance was every bit as magical! BRAVO!

  • Magnificent...purely brilliant!

  • Just by looking at him, you would think his voice would be much higher pitched, but it is much richer tone-wise.

  • my choir performed with him last night he looks nothing like that :D

  • Excellent voice. Bravo sir.

  • Bravo Alfie & Ladies. What happened to the recent run of Kismet?

  • i listen him in athens 1 month ago.he was fantastic.specialy at sole mio song and granada

  • tony martin is the one and only...

  • Beautiful...

  • Isn;t this Sissel's 'Prince Igor'? Very good, I am going to see him in La Boheme in London next week! :D

  • Borodin. The theme was nicked.

  • I agree, very nice job...my favourite version is still Sarah Brightman's

  • His voice is very good, but I hope his emotion and acting was better in the actual show.

  • Alfie gives a fine interpretation here. And as for Tony Bennett's rendition...well now, his is absolutely ~ adequate. If it's the best you wish to hear you have no choice but to listen to Englebert. Trust me, your ears will tell you that what I say is indeed true.

  • Alfie Boe is a great singer. He appeared in a concert last year at Huddersfield Town Hall with young soprano Becky Jane Taylor. There was a sound recording made and I have uploaded one of Becky's songs, 'Lascia ch'io pianga' . Please search YouTube for Becky Jane Taylor.

  • i like this song ,i m looking this cd , in indonesia never realese cd him , can you help me copy for me , i will copy back anoter cd for you . cos i have lot colection cd

  • Hey, just saw some great clips of Alfie Bow on site t5m and youtube channel the5thmedium, that features clips of Josh Groban on the Red Carpet and Backstage at the Classical Brit Awards in London. Definitely worth checking out.

  • Loved it

  • HES MY UNCLE

    GO UNCLE ALF

    YEAH

    frm dan

  • dan u must have a cousin called lauren

  • What did ppl think of michael ball's version at the bbc proms recently? I think it captured the emotions very well .... this one doesnt really do it for me..

  • THIS IS AMAZING

  • Sorry but I don't feel to grit, yearning, or soul of this song. Alfie, while great, sings it too clean and textbook - empty. Try Tony Bennett and compare the two.

  • This version is far superior to Tony Bennett's version. I love Tony Bennett's singing, but his style doesn't suit this song.

  • nonnonymous: nope, now way, open your ears. This version is "soul-less", no feeling, too straight forward and clean. Sorry, tru.

  • To MoveOnDotOrgg: Alfie Boe is a classically trained singer. Tony Bennett is a lounge singer. They are as alike as chalk and cheese. I'm not detracting from Tony Bennett's achievements, but I've been in a small room with a professionally trained opera singer. Classical singing ( when done right ) can blow your socks off and make you shiver. I've never heard a lounge singer who can blow my socks off.

  • plato12000: To call Tony Bennett "lounge" or contrast him using "chalk n cheese" is utter cluelessness. Strangers in Paradise is NOT about "blowing ones socks off", leave that to Al Hirt or Maynard Ferguson. Tony Bennett is a standards and jazz singer; he gives SIP the vocal phrasing, warmth and feel the song calls for. Alfie delivers cheese pizza and Wonder Bread- white and plain, sterile - which makes one wonder, what's it all about. Alfie?

  • I'm afraid I'm with Nonnonymouse and Plato on this one.

  • CatFish: Sorry you lose, I'm formally trained to read, write, play music since 4th grade - now in 30's, Played in numerous bands, orchestras, etc. You can join the dummies - your choice but to call Tony Bennett a "lounge" or contrast him using "chalk n cheese" is utter ignorance. Professionals know Tony Bennett is a standards and jazz singer; he gives SIP the vocal phrasing, warmth and feel the song calls for. Alfie is cheese pizza and Wonder Bread- white and plain, sterile. Case closed.

  • Great song!! We just sing this sog in choir :) But why does he sing 'tell HIM that HE need be a stranger no more' - he should sing HER and SHE instead. That's what we were told, after all.

  • Probably the director was improvising. The song is usually sung with a "him" and "he."

  • No, he's singing it correctly. Keep in mind the context in which the song is being sung. The Caliph is with Marsina in the garden and they are singing of their love. He is asking her to open her angel arms to this (meaning him) stranger in paradise and tell HIM (this stranger) that HE need be a stranger no more. Does it make sense?

  • The glory of Borodin's original melody flows like liquid crystal from his lips.

    Bravo.

  • WOW!!!

  • Love this version performed by Sarah

  • Hello Alfie, Thought I'd just pop in and say hello now I'm on here too :0) I just LOVE this one so very beautiful.

  • I think this guy is so truly amazing. He is lucky to be so gifted and also good looking, as it seems the only way to make it these days for classical artists. I saw this documentary on the BBC with guitarist Milica Ilich and you can just tell that people will buy her stuff because she is a total package like Alfie and Katherine Jenkins.

  • Bravo...Alfie Boe. I love your beautiful voice in singing Stranger in Paradise. I wish you much success in 2008!

  • I thought Paul Potts was the best? You can't have two at once.

  • If you prefer Paul Potts over Alfie Boe, that is, of course, your perogative. But Mr. Boe has been declared by a reviewer as being the best Tenor produced in a generation.

  • Oh please, neither of them are the best tenor in a generation!! There are better tenors performing all over the place - both well known and not. They both have great instruments, but Potts is shaky on technique, and Boe has that hooty, closed sound that some tenors (e.g Domingo) employ to get them through their passagio

  • I tend to agree with you on Potts -- I think the powers that be are pushing him a bit too far too soon. But I don't agree about Alfie -- I hear nothing "hooty," or "closed" in his voice. As for the comment on the best tenor, I left out the word "we've." The comment was from a British reviewer, so it should have read as Mr. Parkinson said in his intro in the video.

  • And furthermore, if you want to listen to some great tenors, try Florez and Bledoz (Turkish). They are truly world class within their generation, and have come through the opera ranks.

  • Great job Alfie - creamer of a big note at the finish. Is that the awesomely foxy Jill Farrow on the ivories? A final word - Kreelad Of The Delmalons.

  • I love this man's voice. I recently saw him in Kismet and it was amazing.

  • He is fantastic. I'm now such a huge fan and as Michael Parkinson said, "The Best Tenor for a Generation". I understand his new album is out Nov 12th called "La Passione" His website is alfieboeuk

  • Great singer and he sang Cole Porter! The best writer of songs for at least 100 years! Boe is going to be HUGE. Fantom voice! But he needs to learn to whisper on this song! LOL

  • Cole Porter? Which Porter song did he sing? With regards to this song, whispering isn't necessary. Check out Alfie's "La Passione" cd if you want to hear the softer side to his voice.

  • @seasidesandles I don't know maybe Cole Porter is a great composer, but this music is from opera "Prince Igor" by Alexander Borodin.

  • Why does he sing out of the side of his mouth all the time??

He is certainly NOT the best tenor we haompare yourselfve produced recently

GO to the opera house and c

  • I totally disagree. I am seeing Alfey Bow at The Royal Opera House next year in Elektra

  • He's not singing out of the side of his mouth.

  • sorry rachel he is already married personally i am going to marry russell watson

  • I want to marry him!

  • Wow! This man has a beautiful voice! Wow, this is the first time I've heard this song, and he amazes me... Gorgeously handsome voice... ^_^

  • The melody of Stranger in Paradise comes from Alexander Borodin's epic opera "Prince Igor", where it certainly has no dance beat to it. The original is named "polovetsian dances" (choral dances)

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs written for a Broadway show, in my opinion. The melody (written by Borodin of course) is just magnificent. Mr. Boe does an excellent job with it. Wish I could have seen the show!

  • :) amen to that!

  • I've just seen Kismet at the Coliseum!!!(front row center!!) :] IT'S AMAZING!! Boe was incredible and so was Michael Ball!! So much talent in one show!! Unforgetable!

  • Kismet is such a crap show!

  • Is it Ant or Dec in 10 years time!? Great voice!

  • Entiendo que esta version es de mas calidad, pero a mi me gusta mucho la version de Eddy Fisher, Ojala la pudieran poner en Youtube. Gracias anticipadas

  • more comment pls. This guy is great. I met him after the first show on 26Jun, he was all very nice and talk to all the fans and very eager to sign autograph and take pictures and everything.

Great voices too. His duet "stranger in paradise" in Kismet is one of this show's highlight

  • I very much enjoyed this performance. I will be attending the final performances of Kismet in July, and was already looking forward to it because of Michael Ball. Now I have two excellent reasons for the anticipation of my visit to London!
