  • Kalari TRUTH:

In Sangam, Kalari was not used as a martial act according to dick Luijendijk, a researcher at the university of Nijmegen. "Kalari" is a centre of learning in Kerala. they taught language, math etc. later on, there were fight schools, thats what "payattu kalari" means.

  • Phillip Zarrilli, a professor at the University of Exeter and one of the few Western authorities on kalari payat, estimates that the art dates back to at least the 12th century CE. The historian Elamkulam Kunjan Pillai attributes the birth of kalari payat to an extended period of warfare between the Cheras and the Cholas in the 11th century CE.

  • 2. Shaolin kung fu predates bodhi: The 2 men who became the VERY FIRST Shaolin monks were ALREADY experts in kung fu. Shaolin kung fu came from them. ("History of Chinese Martial arts: Jin Dynasty to the Period of Disunity") Also, they found weapons in the monestaries of Chang'an. ("Martial arts Myths of Shaolin Monastery, Part I: The Giant with the Flaming Staff") Suggesting the monks already practied martial arts.

  • 3. Creation of 5 animal kung fu styles is documented, NO BODHI: Jueyuan was a master of the 18 Luohan Hands. the original 18 techniques of Shaolin. He expand to 72, but wanted to do more. He travel to Gansu Province to the city of Lanzhou and met Li Sou. He was a master of Hong Quan. they work with Bai YuFeng and expand the 72 techniques to around 170. Those 170 techniques were than divided into the 5 animal forms.

  • 4. The ONE place that credits bodhi is discredited: ONLY the PREFACE of the 1800s VERSION of the Yijin Jing mentions Bodhi with kung fu at all. Historians (like Tang Hao, Xu Zhen and Matsuda Ryuchi) discredit this preface because it is FULL of INACCURACIES. Even getting the Emperor Reigns wrong.

  • 5. The painting in Shaolin does NOT depict bodhi teaching shaolin monks. It actually only shows many shades of monks, all wearing Chinese clothes, practicing kung fu. Leave it to dreamers to think anyone who is a shade darker than light is Indian. Even if they were, no indication whatsoever about bodhi. PLUS the painting was done a THOUSAND years after bodhi’s time. It CANNOT be used as an indication of the past.

  • 6. Sinews Changing Classic: Scholars disregard this preface because it has many anachronistic mistakes and the fact that popular fictional characters from Chinese literature, including the "Bushy Bearded Hero" (虬髯客), are listed as lineage masters. In fact, Ling Tinkang (1757-1809), a SCHOLAR of the QING Dynasty, described the author (Li Jing) as an “IGNORANT VILLAGE MASTER”

  • 7. So in conclusion, there was kung fu before shaolin. There was shaolin kung fu before bodhi. The creation of the animal styles is documented, no bodhi. The one source that credits bodhi is faulty and the author of that one preface was viewed as an “IGNORANT VILLAGE MASTER”

    The End, dreams over.

  • It seems to that martial arts came from India by the buddhist monks....

  • Poor indians no matter how hard the thing they are doing is, they always look kind of funny doing it. I dunno what it is, but it never looks cool it always looks like a comedy.

  • kalari is the og of martial arts , it all came from india but had its own mix to it , i want to learn how to do this :L , it would make it pro ! lol

  • In the first episode you do see some useful technigues between to fighters but in general it's difficult to call this a well organized fighting art. In fact one must really stretch the imagination. :(

  • @wontonga Yeah, I thought that at first, them flailing their arms around randomly was a little strange. But the advanced students train with real weapons, so there must be a degree of professionalism and it is the most ancient martial art there is...so yeah.

  • i dont understand. if they got into more than a few fights they would see these forms and techniques are useless yet they continue to practice. u dont see anyone winning mma competitions with kalari

  • omg! Breakdance coffee grinder at 3:54

  • LOL Kalari invented breakdance also

  • @sonofthedestroyer They got that from capoiera which originated in Angola, and later refined in Brazil and used against the slave masters disguised as a dance.

  • @sonofthedestroyer In regards to physical culture originally the westerners were poor compared to the ancient indians. The European wrestlers had very few exercises to the legs they copied the squat, push ups dive bomber push ups and many other movements from the indian and other eastern nations.Like it or not this Breakdance coffe grinder is found in many martial arts and it was certainly copied by the coloured people and added to Breakdance and got a fancy name.LOL at your LOL.

  • @bostafffighter,

LOL at your LOL and my initial LOL

  • really neat,i've heard of kalari before, but at least here in america,i haven't seen much exposure to it -- seems really worthwhile and life-affirming,those guys are fit,no doubt ---that crocodile walk reminded me of breakdancing -- thanx for posting this,an all-around great series

  • kilari paryathu is as good as shaoilin

  • mar-mar-addi

  • why do they keeps arts like adithada and kalari secret??

  • Props to the ancient Indians for being the first. respect to Damo for Shaolin. Thanks for the upload man

  • they would be the first, infact alot of jap religions originated from hinduism. Indians are the first in alot of things.

  • This is the most hardest and best martial art. all these martial arts like karate, kung fu and all other crap came from kalari.

  • However, I must note, that imho this style may not work for everyone. The wide slashing strikes and kicks seem to be best suited to the very long limbs of the southern indians. If anyone practices this, correct me if I am wrong

  • Maybe yes! I heard that Bodhidharma changed Kalari into Kung Fu because it suited the Chinese weather, monks, etc etc.

Incredible flexibility used by Kalari students. When i learnt Karate it was nothing like this. Karate was very very stiff.

  • It definitely requires the flexibility and agility of a more ectomorphic body structure. Like mine. I don't practice it, i live in Britian, though i have a very Indian body structure on account of being part Indian, and i have been researching Kalari.

  • It is a very impressive art indeed. What I appreciate about it particularly is the great emphasis it places on treatment and and fitness. Lack of this knowledge causes me serious trouble in my training

  • you can really see how diluted all kung fu has become...

  • I don't see it as diluted, just adapted. at least, kung fu the way it was 500 years ago. They way it is now, has nothing to do with it anymore

  • Excellent art, Please help bring it to Toronto, I'd attend any day. I love Indian culture, especially the Southern regions, free of Islam or any true religious conflicts.

    Excellent VIdeo,

    V.

  • I can clearly see the roots of jiujitsu, kung fu, wu shu and most of the south eastern asian martial arts in Kalari Payatu. with all respect to the chinese, japanese, korean and other civilizations, this art might be the beginning of all.

  • It is believed that Shaolin comes from Kalari through Buddhist migration/proselytization, so you are indeed correct.

  • @isatay

True even then you have to remember these arts are revived.....I wonder how this would've looked before the British came. It would have been an incredible site to see....could've been the reason why the Cholas and other Southern Empires were very powerful at one time, a least till the gun and cannon were introduced!

  • @isatay dont forget acupuncture, thai chi ect (=

  • @isatay no need to respect koreans
