  • Love this song - use to enjoy it in the clubs... always packed out the dance floor! :))

  • I didn't even know this was STYX i remember this song but i had no idea wow no a styx song imo

  • classsiker....

  • This was a stinker!

  • I 1st heard this on the 2004 anthology Come Sail Away and I have to say that it totally blew me away!

  • Burtnik originally wrote this song with the hope of releasing it on his third solo album, before the members of Styx had drafted him to replace Tommy Shaw on guitar. His original cut of this song can be found on his "Retrospectable" anthology CD.

But one must think deeply over what this song would sound like with his predecessor (and replacement), Tommy Shaw, singing it.

  • This is really the last gasp of the 1980's and is NOT Styx. The fact that I've never heard this track EVER, and it is not part of Dennis DeYoung's present show in 2010 is really a testiment to the relevance of this track. Even Dennis DeYoung acknowledged the importance of admitting to music which is not up to par. I believe the last STYX album was Kilroy Was Here.!

  • @peterbadgely

    It's all Glen Burtnik here...

  • @peterbadgely, I owned this album when it came out. :) Yes, it is Styx, I assure you. Do some homework/research and you'll be just fine.

  • I need to clarify three posts ago. The song I was referring to was One Hundred Years From Now. That's the one all three should harmonize on.

  • Comment removed

  • Here is my wish, While Tommy is forced to eat beef jerky with Nugent Dennis should tour with his band with Burtnik on bass. Dennis was looking for an American partner to do a duet with. How about Dennis, Burtnik, and August Zadra all

harmonize on the song. Release the song as a US single. That combination is a guaranteed

    hit.

  • glen sometimes play w/ dennis when he's time is free. last they played together was when dennis was promoting "one hundred years from now"

  • Ok, this explains why this is teh suck: "Tommy Shaw is off with those Damn Yankees" making real rock music, not mining Debbie Gibson territory with this warmed-over 80's dance muzik. Did I mention how much this sucks?

  • more successfull without him? what kind of crack have you been smokin if you call only selling 25,000 copies of there last cd being more successful, it's like i always said tommy and JY might of bitched about some of his songs, but you never heard them bitch about all the money it made them, and it's still making them, so what if dennis had a huge ego, styx's 2 album after him proves he was the genius of the group

  • @pbabowler2007 I didn't say Styx was more successful as a band without him than in the Deyoung era lol I said this incarnation of the Band is More Successful than what Dennis Deyoung has been doing since they booted his ass a second time lol Right now Styx is in the middle of a very successful tour with Foreigner what is Deyoung doing?? nothing.

  • @rockofhysteria .....well you should keep up with dennis deyoung, you say he's done nothing since being booted out by styx, well i guess having 2 triple platinum albums in 2004 and 2007 is busy doing nothing.......lol how did styx last 2 album do......not that good i'm afraid...........lol........plus i just seen dennis in june his new band rocks..........

  • @rockofhysteria I just can't take this guy. Dennis is on tour right now!!! I saw him and he is awesome. Go to his site and buy a ticket, you might learn something.

  • @rockofhysteria The tour with Foreigner has been done for 2 months. And Dennis is touring with his solo band here and internationally. That's FAR from doing nothing.

Get your facts straight before coming here to spread this crap.

  • @pbabowler2007 which cd are u referring to Cyclorama or One With Everything cause One With Everything sold more than 25,000 copies and definately sold more than Cyclorama which is why i said it was a little more succesful than Cyclorama was.

  • just to let you know dennis was a founding member along with john and chuck they got together in 1962 and started a band called trade winds, and a few years later when john curulewski joined they started calling themseleves tw4 and in 1970 when james young came along they were still on the wooden nickel label and changed there name to styx in 1972 when they signed with a&m records, so just letting you know the real story,

  • @pbabowler2007 If Dennis Deyoung hadn't decided to be a domineering prick like Axle Rose and Steve Perry then he would still be in Styx but he did so they decided they werent gonna take his shit anymore and booted him good for them and they have been more successfull without him then he has with his career without them.

  • @rockofhysteria Domineering Prick? Tommy and JY threw him under a bus when he was sick. He asked for six months to get better to do the Brave New Word tour. Tommy and JY got Gowan and played to half full arenas. I know I saw the show in Poughkeepsie. Furthermore, in the ten years since, Styx has not had one hit. Dennis had a number one in Canada. You know this is not worth my time. Think what you want.

  • @spiglator Dude find Styx Behind the music when Deyoung got kicked out it wasn't over a sickness it was cause he didn't wannd to rock and roll he wanted to go back to doing Concept albums like Kilroy Was Here and wanted complete control. It came right out of the mouth of JY and Tommy Shaw. and I already saw Dennis Deyoung in concert in Canada you are right the band he has put together is brilliant

  • @rockofhysteria My friend, please find Dennis Deyoung of Styx speaks about parting ways and really get his side, it's posted here somewhere. Also please watch Behind the Music part 6 of 6. They had Brave New World ready, and Dennis said he was sick.

I believe Dennis because I had a similar condition. It took me three years to heal.

Furthermore, thanks for keeping this debate civil. It's the way it should be, take care.

  • @spiglator I saw that part but also I saw a scene where JY Young and Tommy Shaw mentioned that Denns Deyoung wanted them to turn over complete control over to him he told them it was his way or the highway and to quote JY they decided on the highway.

  • @rockofhysteria Do you think Dennis actually said that? JY has been known to hold grudges. He held one against Tommy for years for leaving the band. It's clear that JY was referring to Dennis' request for a six month break. I do respect your opinion friend because you do admit when you're wrong. I wish you knew as much about the band as some of the other posters. Glen Burtnik left the band because of an internal disagreement with JY. Furthermore, JY is the only one holding up a reunion.

  • @spiglator Allegedly Tommy Shaw is leaving again too I just read a interview with Jack Blades about two weeks ago and according ot him Damn Yankees is gonna reunite to release the long awaited third album that was recorded back in the 1990's and they are supposed to tour on it too.

  • @rockofhysteria Now who does JY call? He should call Dennis and Burtnik!! I thought that Damn Yankees had all kinds of problems with that album. Maybe Tommy is sick of all the verbal beatings he took for what he and JY did to Dennis. This is getting interesting. Who owns the STYX name after Tommy leaves?

  • @spiglator Tommy nor JY ever owned the Name to begin with Whoever is left in the Panozzo Family owns the name

  • @rockofhysteria Dennis AND the Panozzo twins started the band. It wasn't just Chuck and John.

  • @rockofhysteria Tommy Shaw is not leaving the band. They've been working on the 3rd Damn Yankees album for 15 years. Yeah, they'll tour, but Tommy has even said it will take place during a break in Styx and Night Ranger's schedules.

You CAN be in two groups at once. Hell, it will be 3 groups for Tommy. Styx, Shaw/Blades, and Damn Yankees.

  • @ericboltz Here I thought I had to straighten rockofhysteria out. Thanks for doing it for me. Your right Burtnik never played keyboards, although I don't doubt he could.

The man is so damn talented. Let's keep this string going, it's interesting and almost clean.

  • @ericboltz Most of the stuff from what was to have been the 3rd Damn Yankees album can actually be found on the Shaw/Blades album of 1997 or 1998

  • @Colin0513 Yeah, I know...but those versions are "Shaw/Blades'd Up" versions. Plus that's hardly all of what they had planned.

  • @spiglator Exactly! Even Chuck Panozzo said that he hopes a reunion will happen while they're all still alive.

  • I'll have to agree to disagree with most ppl on this one. To me it sounds like the band was trying to cash in on the very commercial 80's pop sound. Completely forgettable.

  • this song sounds like winger... I can't get Enuff!

  • Good song, nothing wrong with it......catchy beat, just a fun song...

  • All Good. People agree and disagree. I definitely do not agree with you though. :)

  • Totally forgettable song.

    And I love STYX.

  • Robert Plant and Aerosmith could never be Hair Metal, They are Blusy based Rock N Roll. The kind that started it all.

  • It sounds like a drum machine and not John. I don't like Burtnik's voice. It sounds worn out. This is probably the best tune of his on the album.

  • saxman you are right Deyoung didnt write this song from what ive read about this album this particular song was written by Glen Burtnik and was gonna be on a solo album he was working when he was tapped to be a member of Styx and the rest of the band liked it so much they asked to record it for this album and i must wise choice on their part.

  • @rockofhysteria

Of course, as Burtnik filled in for Tommy Shaw when that guitarist formed his own band, Damn Yankees, with Ted Nugent.

  • @ClassicTVMan81 right and ironically when they finally kicked that asshole Deyoung out for good they brought him back in as the keyboardist this time lol.

  • @rockofhysteria They brought him back as Bass player, dumbass. Lawrence Gowan took the keyboard spot. Moron.

  • @ericboltz No no no Burtnik is not with the band anymore dude but when he came back into styx after deyoungs final departure Burtnik was a keyboardist like u said though Lawrence Gowan is the keyboardist now.

  • @rockofhysteria I'm very aware Glen isn't in the band now. But he was NEVER the band's keyboardist. He was on Guitar 1990-1992 and Bass from 1999-2003.

  • hey drnrg31 this was not a attempt at hair metal this was just Styx pure and simple why is it every time in the late 80's and early 90's that a band from the 70's tried to make a comeback people say it was a attemp at hair metal whats next you gonna call Robert Plant solo hair metal or Aerosmith. The only way this was Styx's attempt at Hair metal is if they all had big mullets and was wearing spandex I dont see spandex on any member of the band in this video

  • Calling them Hair metal was streching it, but they did sound a lot different. and did have a shouty sound to them. The "heys" and what not. The song even sounds a bit like Winger's "I Can't get Enough".

  • This was Styx trying to sound like hair Metal Rock. Hair Metal was great ,but Styx does not = Slaughter

  • Thank god for that!

  • the early 90s were a funny time for music.

  • WOW! Super Model Brian Buzzini is in this video! I remember being crushed when I heard he married...the original Cool Water commercial was my favorite!

  • That is Brian Buzzini in this video!

Nice that Styx was secure enough to have the 80's - 90's supermodel side-by-side in their music video.

    Great job Styx!

    Great job Brian!

    cad

  • Good, but without Dennis DeYoung, this is no Styx song. Even today. No Dennis, no Styx song.

  • Dude, Dennis DeYoung was a part of this album, and it rocks.

  • dennis didn't even write this song though

  • I have to disagree! Styx is good with gowan!

  • I love Gowan and Shaw<3

  • @angrypengu1n Dennis was on this song. He produced it.

  • This song, once you get past the pop techno crap aside is a really good song.

  • fuck.

  • A real low point for styx I'm not knocking burtnik, He's a great songwriter and performer! just a a bad time for styx! I remember hearing it once on the radio then it was gonE!

  • Rock radio played this track alot when it came out. It did terrible on the Pop charts but a huge FM rock radio hit. I heard this on WHJY (in New England) alot in late 1990 and proved Styx could survive without Tommy Shaw who was with Damn Yankees who sucked. Edge of the Century was a great album but overlooked. The next two singles Show Me the Way and Love at First Sight would push the album close to Gold in sales. However, PolyGram (A&M's new owners) prefered Extreme and Janet Jackson to Styx.

  • Glen has a good voice, but you don't replace Tommy Shaw, and you don't replace Dennis DeYoung.

  • @NukeCulear I just wanted to point out that if Deyoung hadn't been such a egotistical asshole they wouldn't have kicked him out in the first place lol

  • @rockofhysteria That egotistical asshole was the heart and soul of the band and put out there best work. Not to mention they kinda suck without him

  • @NukeCulear Dennis Deyoung was not the Heart and Soul Of Styx the Pannazo's were seing as is they were the founding members. And obviously you havent seen Styx lately they are still great without him check out their live show called One With Everything where they played with a contemporary youth orchestra and chorus its available on cd and dvd

  • @rockofhysteria oh are you referring to their embarrassing performances with the mediocre REO Speedwagon? Oh yeah, they're good without Dennis.

  • @NukeCulear I wasn't fucking referring to that show I was referring to their show called One With Everything that was done in Cleveland with the Cleveland Contemporary Youth Orchestra and Chorus It's Available on CD and Dvd. If Styx weren't that good withouth DeYoung then their concerts wouldn't draw dick but they do and they also outdraw Deyoungs solo tours.

  • @rockofhysteria just to let you know dennis was a founding member along with john and chuck they got together in 1962 and started a band called trade winds, and a few years later when john curulewski joined they started calling themseleves tw4 and in 1970 when james young came along they were still on the wooden nickel label and changed there name to styx in 1972 when they signed with a&m records, so just letting you know the real story,

  • @rockofhysteria The Panozzos wouldn't have started a band if Dennis DeYoung hadn't invited them over to his basement to jam. And they never wrote a song.

  • @ericboltz wow i forogt i had commented about Styx LMAO!!!! but who owns the Styx name The Panozzos do not Dennis Deyoung the Panozzos so it's their band not him it's theirs. JY Young said on Behind the Music that when Deyoung came back in the mid 90's he automatically started in with his domineering bullshit telling them it's his way or the Highway and so they kicked is ass out again lol. good for them so what if they don't have hit singles anymore they still have very successful tours.

  • @NukeCulear Very true. Each had a unique and clearly recognizable voice and talent. I'm not fond of the most recent band line up, it could be better, but it could be much worse.

  • I just can't accept a Styx song with the lead vocals done by someone other than the big three.

  • he's got a good voice.

  • Man that Glen is hot mmhm
