@hxy00 Most Likely we'll be down to Cape Cod thsi year, but not sure about Boston. There is plenty of great fishing though in Cape Cod & Buzzards Bay as well.
@MrPorkGuy Can't recall if we used circle hooks in this episode, but we have used circle hooks for carp and they do work we'll. The advantage would be that you don't really need to set the hook. Once the carp picks up your bait, and starts to run, you have a better chance for a good hook up.
You guys seem to be a lot rougher with the handling of carp in comparison to how there handled in the UK! We use large landing nets and unhooking mats. You should also hold carp upright in the water when releasing until they regain momentum!
@OwnageProductions69 The carp meat is quite tasty once the fish is bled & the dark muscle meat is removed. The problem is that carp are full of bones. Thanks!
Well nice to see u punting them back m8s. In the UK we use 12ft long 3lbs test curve robs with reels that hold at lest 200 ft of line and it makes the job a lot easier. But grats on some nice fish.
got my first carp last week and it was a good 20 pounder, put up a hell of a fight. Learned everything i know from carp fishing videos on youtube lol and it worked
@99pitbulls hi i live in Toronto and want to come here for fishing but i dont know how to get here, can you tell me how to get here? and what food or lure did use to catch this? thanks
i caught the 20 pound carp at mary curtis park in etobiko just off of lake ontario, i was using pop up boilies on a hair rig, if you dont know what a hair rig is you could look it up on youtube and you can use corn as well, good luck!
@jakefsbenefitsnet Actually, these fish were deliberately brought into the USA. Some people don't like them while others regard them highly as a great game fish. Thanks for your thoughts!
well its a good thing your ridiculous, kiss-ass methods of carp fishing dont apply here in the states. we dont need bite alarms, unhooking mats, and over complicated rigs to catch just as much fish as you brits and krauts.
@sk8metalnick6 agree. I've been wondering why they do that...just cast, stick the rod on the ground, and wait while you read your sunday newspaper. thats it.
@sk8metalnick6 - unfortunately its not a quantity thing, its a respect thing, just cause trailer trash are low lifes, does it make it okay to kill them and treat them with disrespect........... no it doesnt, so why is it any different for fish that are considered bottom feeders? funny thing is catfish, crayfish, crab and lobster are all bottom feeders in which most americans love eating.......... get educated, im sure there is a nice nook in that trailer of yours you can read a few books in!
@apeioj how funny of you to assume i live in a trailer and kill all fish i catch. i never harmed a carp in my life, catch and release only. im just saying you waste so much time and money with your methods and staying out on the water for days. whats the point? just get a can of corn, chum like hell, set the drag loose on a bankstick and wait. this has nothing to do with eating bottomfeeders.
For those of you who believe carp is not good to eat, here is an old recipe that will change your mind:
Ingredients:
- 1 carp
- 2 tsp garlic
- 1 tbsp minced onion
- 1 squeeze of lemon
- 1 piece of OAK board
Find a big plank of solid oak. Place carp on top of it. Clean fish, removing bones and scales. Sprinkle on garlic onion and lemon. Place fish and plank in oven at 375° for 25 minutes. When done, remove from oven throw away carp and eat plank.
nothing beats a guy teaching how to fish carp incorrectly! - loose drag? try a bait runner? branch for rod holder? try a rod pod! - dragging fish on the rocks? try a specimen net! - and landing mat! no offense but as a fishing channel, the information is lacking at best, study the european methods of carp angling, treat the fish with respect! and catch more fish using proper techniques, sorry to sound so rude!
@apeioj You are very correct about every thing! There are many, many great products to refine the art of carp fishing.
A true carp angler would surely be equipped with these. We have demonstrated catching them in a simple form.
Dragging the fish looks a little crude but the rocks are covered with slimy moss & will not remove the protective slime of the fish. In this area, the water level rises & recedes in seconds and appears that the fish is dragged a long distance. Thanks for your concern!
@hahaha4047 - hey man, your opinion is totally correct and I respect it..... its just if your going to fish big fish, you should be prepared, its respectful to the fish, to fish them correctly....... this is why when you catch carp you sometimes find huge hooks with 1 ounce weights attached, cause someone didnt know what they werre doing!
Hi there! I have a lake fairly close to my house, I cannot find any information about it on the internet, Ive caught about 1 bass, ive asked people whats in there... Some people say pike, bass and other game fish and sunfish. How do i know whats in there? Im big into fishing and ive never really caught anything besides a few bass (Biggest one was 15") Any tips/Information? thanks!!
@MrRsFroob Try using a simple "hook/line & sinker" rig, and use worms for bait. Worms is a universal bait and will catch you all kinds of different fish - so give worms a try next time you get out there and I'm sure you'll get into some fish. Once you know what is in there, then you can use different lures.
Hey I love fishing big fish such as the carp but what about sheephead and drum? I have also fished those but have never fished carp. I was wondering how much of a difference there was beteween catching the carp and the sheephead?
@zachcaruth The carp are more challenging to catch than a sheepshead. Their fighting abilities greatly surpass that of the sheepshead. When you catch your first carp, you'll be amazed at how strong they are.
I caught a 18 pound carp last summer by the most simple setup. A hotdog and a hook. No sinker. Just hook a piece of a hot dog about the size of the hook hide the hook as good as possible. Then just cast it and let it sit on the bottom. Those carp will smell it and suck it right up. Works great in canals, man made lakes, and ponds
that's is not the way to fish on carp, you drag the carp on the rocks bad for the skin, you did not have an unhookingsmath/plaid to putt the carp on for protection.
@carplimburg It does look harsh draagging the fish but actually the stones are well rounded & very smooth. They are also coated with slimy moss and does not remove the protective fish slime. Another unique feature about this area is that the water comes up and receeds within seconds. Where the carp were caught, the water can receed 6 feet. We basically bring the carp close to shore and keep it there a few seconds to wait for the water to receed. The fish is left on shore and quickly handled. Thx
Nice video as always! Just seeing that rig tip on twister tails/jig head, I thought of a question that pertained to it -- can you fish that a jighead with an artificial worm suspended under a float? Or is it best to cast/retrieve like you normally would with a jighead and an artificial bait?
@nmigliore Glad you enjoyed the video. You can definitely fish the jig head & worm, suspended, under a float. When doing so, let the jig settle, then pull your float towards you a few feet and let the jig settle again.
This will trigger bites.
You will need to be sure that the jig head is not too heavy for your float - otherwise, your float will sink.
So if you want to fish suspended, give this method a try, it will catch you fish! Thanks for writing in & good luck on the water.
That's true about taking your kids out fishing for carp. My dad took my out fishing for carp and catfish before I even new how to fish for pan fish and bass. I learned real fast on how to fight fish and be more open to all types of fishing. More importantly I had a great time with my dad and brothers and sisters.
nice carps and channel catfish in my town were salmon and steelhead spawn theres a carp thats 4-5 feet long and it just sits there by the bank and its untouchable but ill try to hook it this way but also you need a salmon video itd help my salmon skills more and others!
@Vulcan328 The feeder rods are basically long rods anywhere from 10 to 14 feet long. They are designed to cast various feeders a long distance. You should be able to use this rod for your normal float fishing as well as long as you don't mind the long length. Thanks & good fishing!
@andyart11 A feeder is a device that holds fish food. It is casted into position and the food escapes through openings creating a trail of food that will attract fish. As the fish eat the food they will find your hook bait near by. Thanks for your inquiry!
@cichlidsfreak On the Niagara Parkway in Niagara Falls Ontario, head north approx. 1 mile past the Whirlpool Areo Car enrtance and park your vehicle in the first parking area on your right.
