  • Excellent Master.

  • Not that I don't believe you, but can you give me any sources?? I'd like to find out more...

  • The large man in the blue shirt who Chen Bing throws around weighs in excess of 260 lbs.; he is STILL out with serious knee and back injuries, as he wanted to go all out w/ Chen Bing . Chen Bing weighs 145 lbs. Ask those guys in The Cage about Tai Chi's effectiveness.

  • For all of those who have never seen tai chi applied in an mma situation, I invite you to view both of these youtube vids: Master Chen Bing's Push Hand 1 & Master Chen Bing's Push Hand 2. They are footage of him giving a seminar to mma fighters at "the Cage" in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

  • This guy is the real Mccoy!

  • The guy seems like a real deal, but the last two students students are basically just leaning themselves out of balance before he even applies a technique. That's a shame.

  • FamilyQuan, just exactly how do you know this was fake? Have you ever even tried to push hand with a real life taiji expert? I did. Many times. And I got thrown to the ground way too many times not to know better. It ain't fake, I can tell you that. You don't believe me? Come to Houston and stop by either Master Cheng Jincai's school or Shaolin Temple (master Shi De Shan) and challenge them to a push hand contest.

  • sdawson222, your argument is old and full of ignorance. Really. MMA gives you a good start and that's it. Pretty much a jack of all trade, a master of none. A Karate expert or kungfu masteer cannot compete in UFC at all because they would be fighting with their hands and feet tied up. Why don't YOU bring your ignorant self to these martial schools and challenge them? To put something that lasts for thousands of years down is just plain STUPID.

  • his this school in bakersfield

  • I thought this video was fake, and pretty shameful. Serious Chen style bouts are like wrestling matches, with serious resistance and moments of real skill against resisting opponents. No matter how much you love taiji, you have to understand, students throwing themselsve to the floor like this makes it look stupid. No wonder no one believes it. Don't promote or defend the things that are destroying the reputation of true Chinese martial arts.

  • Even in Japan, the land of all forms of Ryu Karate, Do, Jiujitsu, Judo, Ninjitsu, and Kempo to name just the basics, real Taiji Boxing has attained near mythical status and is a very venerated and widely practiced martial art, emphasis on MARTIAL. Nuff said.

  • It never ceases to amaze me at the absolute amount of mentally asinine rebuffs made against REAL taiji MASTERS not health practitioners. These dull souls keep sounding of about how a cage fighter would "destroy" and "obliterate" a taiji master. I would love to see a REAL fight not in a cage, no pads, of someone of Grandmaster Cheng Jincai's ilk and I can guarantee absolute devastation to the jiujitsu man or whomever. These snotty brats haven't a clue what REAL taiji is! Now sod off! Bullocks.

  • Tai chi is not ment to look practical. In China u r only taught this when u have studied KungFu then on to Bagua then Tai Chi. U r expected to be an advanced fighter b4 u train. It difficult to c the moves. Thats were the skill comes. It should take atleast 8-10yrs to learn. I admit most of the teachers in the UKUS r not taught by real masters therefore they should not be teaching nothing but exercise. There r some good schools here in the UK. Dan Doherty (Wu-Tai-Chi) world champ is 80's

  • sdawson222 I trained with Grand master Feng Zhi.He refused a challenge from US cage fighter and refused but the Yank attacked. Wrong move the Yank lost and was 18yrs younger, i saw with my own eyes.

Go to China visit G/Master Feng Zhi's school and I bet u cant even beat the students. Even the masters below him were undefeated outside the school. The master played with me n made clear he might be 60+ but he kick ass still. He dealt with 4 western blk belts with worrying ease. lost 0 challenges

  • your talking about the best in the world of one art vs some dudes. MMA is the stage to prove a system works and thus far kung-fu has proven to be complete crap. No kung-fu fighter has ever won in the UFC, Pride or even Affliction. All the top fighters in the world train in jiu-jitsu. Try it before you knock it. I have done Kung-Fu. I was under sifu leo who was under master chang. The master Chang. Guess what: They admitt that jiu-jitsu is better for fighting. Kung-fu is for the soul. ie sux

  • NO tai chi is proven when the Cage 99 US Champ got his ass kicked for trying to attack someone who is 24 years older than him. prove end of. If a Bagua/ Tai Chi master could not enter a competition like MMA as they would be burst internal organs and many life threatening injuries. Yes MMA is quite and I a noy knocking it. I am saying that REAL BAGUA N TAI CHI in MMA = Burst internal organs. I admit they are MANY GOOD FIGHTER IN MMA BUT U R KNOCKING OTHERS arts NOT ME

  • What is cage 99? Some scrub league? No real martial artists would just attack someone. I am glad that guy whoever he was lost. Burst internal organs? How do you know that would happen? Nothing can be done without practice and I doubt bursting organs is practiced. I do not believe you. Jiu-jitsu has been proven to work you must admitt that. This stuff hasn't. That is lame to say it is not used in mma because it would burst someone's organs. It is not used because it doesn't work.

  • I don't believe it. I am only a blue belt in Jiu-jitsu but I started in Karate and got a blck belt. I also did Walum kung-fu and found it a waste of time. I have never seen nor heard of any form of kung fu winning against a legit jiu-jitsu fighter. Not trying to be mean but I think it is 90% BS. I owned that Kung-fu school. It was easy to take people down and choke them. To much philosophy not enough real fighting

  • I don't support the fantasy claims of those who think this stuff would work in a cage fight, nor do I accept that anyone asking if it works needs to go and find out - top level masters must prove their own claims against top level opponents. However, Wang Xiang Zhai defeated senior Jiu Jitsu and Judo expert Kenchi Sawai... all be it a long time ago. So now you've heard of one.

  • Why is it that you never see this stuff used in the UFC or any other real fighting league? Jiu-jitsu has PROVEN it workss by practitioners winning fights for the past 15 years in the UFC. The first 4 it dominated when there were no rules. Lets see the proof of this mess

  • because it takes too long to master this technique and when used properly by a skill master it is too powerful and deadly. but the real reason is probably because it takes too long

  • I respect the form but its just doesn't seem that practical.. I study Krav Maga and if you went up against some that did Tai Chi, Krav would win every time.

  • actually....

Well you don't have to take my word for it but i saw a vid that shows very effective Tai Chi against all sorts of martial arts.

The concept of finding the easiest path to destroy an opponent was very apparent when the Tai Chi master used his energy to attack at certain points, destroying ligaments and disarming his opponents. It was actually kind of...sad. He really screwed up Jujitsu, Karate, and whatever masters.

  • Reilly 44: Sorry, but it's really stupid to make sweeping generalizations like this. If you fought against someone who did Taijiquan for health then of course they wouldn't know how to fight.

  • The art doesn't make the fighter, the fighter makes the art. If you fought against a properly trained Taijiquan fighter, then you're in for a world of hurt. The practice shown in this video is meant to study structure, angles and sensitivity. It isn't real fighting. However when these skills are brought to the martial arena, it's a different story. If you don't believe me, you're more than welcome to contact me.

  • This is wrong. It's simply the wrong way argue about it. A serious doubt, or question about validity legitimises itself - as in, you can't expect to just intimidate people in to not asking if it works. Maybe I can't defeat you - but who am I? Maybe I have no skill, so you beating me doesn't prove you or what you do is effective. The onus is on you to provide evidence of your claims - think: don't think it is legitimate to make people think they must fight you to prove what you say isn't true.

  • did this work

  • 另一個太極拳基礎低,才會被如此推倒。應該二個都是差不多根底的比試,才不會一面倒...。太極拳有《拳經》的,不讀《拳經》又怎知其中秘訣...。

  • graciepurplebelt...remember that mma is ruled by certian rules ...martial arts is chosen by an individual for certain purposes and neither is better than the other...its each individuals training that is better.

  • i dont know anything about bjj or pretend like i do, what i do know is that with all my force no holding back i cant even do anything to a man thats nearly 4 times my age; the strongly rooted force that he had that was immovable and at the same time it felt like i was pushing on cotton. hell i couldn't even move as fast as he did and hes not even the teacher hes just another student. how effortlessly being pushed or pulled me down. i believe you get what you put into your martial art

  • The reason why we haven't seen it in the West is partly because the Chinese aren't that bothered about what we in the West think.and partly because these traditional styles have been kept "in the family" (villages, clans). But I think you're going to see more of it now, as China becomes more and more open to the rest of the world and the younger players are likely to be more aware of the low image CMA have in the West and will likely want to correct that impression.

  • haha, that's crap. the 'younger players' would get killed in a real fight. pancration and combat martial arts have been around, east and west, for centuries, and i have never heard one story about combat tai chi being effective. haha.

  • That's because you haven't been looking. China was the dominant military power in its region for nearly 2,000 years, these arts come originally from that time, and have been preserved mostly in clans and villages. There's plenty of fighting and testing goes on in that context, but you don't hear about it. Again, there is nothing new about anything being done in MMA - the Chinese had "open platform" competitions right up to the Communist period, in which styles like Taiji came out on top.

  • douchebag

  • That's why Yang Lu'Chan was nicknamed, Yang the Invincible...

  • Tai Chi as a martial art was taught to the Chinese Emperor's body guards and Royal family from 1800s to 1911 when the Qing Dynasty ended there after, the Wu family continued to teach the martial art to the Republican army and officer school. Tai Chi is pure martial art. And it amazed the royal family so much that they chose it as their own secret art. The skills can be applied to MMA but is not for the weak disciplined.

  • MMA is a sport, however, the techniques used are from real martial arts. I appreciate tai chi as a form of the "inner" martial arts, but it is not a combat form. I can guarantee you that some tai chi guy is not going to throw me around. Double-leg takedown, mount position, ground and pound.

  • Your ignorance astounds me. Taijiquan isn't just about feeling the "chi" and getting a good workout. It has tremendous martial potential that many westerners haven''t figured out yet. I have a great respect for all martial arts including yours, but apparently you have only seen grandma's tai chi and have never experienced taijiquan in its fullest capacity. If you ever decide to try someone who does this "crap" for real, I'm in Houston, TX and on the net. Don't hesitate to look me up.

  • I am not trying to be ingorant. Try looking at this from my perspective; as an outsider looking in. I love all martial arts, and have studied many. I find my other instructors to be ingorant and arrogant when I tell them I am a brazilian jiu jitsu practiioner. They always say, "That ground stuff won't work in a real fight." But the truth is, it does, and it has been proven!!! Look at the UFC. IF a fighter does not know any jiu jitsu, they will get killed. I dont see any tai chi??

  • Jiu Jitsu changed the martial arts world and there is a reason why it is the fastest growing martial art in the world. I am sure tai chi has its benefits, but I do not see any of the techniques utilized in real combat such as mma. Why is this???? If this push hand stuff is so good, then why haven't the best combat martial artests in the world utilized it????

  • There are four basic categories in combat as seen through the Chinese Martial Arts: Ti (kicking), Da (striking), Shuai (grappling, wrestling, or throwing), and Na (seizing and locking). Chen Style Taijiquan encompasses all of these in its curriculum. What is shown in this video is only a very small aspect of the training. Push hands is not combat, but it trains the elements of combat. These elements being balance, sensitivity, rooting, fluidity, etc.

  • Likewise, sport and competition are also parts of the Chen Style Taijiquan curriculum. There are push hands events (Chinese rules, which are more harsh), and san shou (a form of kickboxing with throwing). However, again sporting events still only encompass a small aspect of the training. The participants in this video are cooperative, and the purpose here is only for demonstration. Please hold your judgment if you haven't seen it all.

  • I will say this though, there are still too few instructors teaching the full curriculum of Taijiquan in the U.S. So unless you go to China, you will be hard pressed to find good examples of authentic Taijiquan. So I can understand your outsider's point of view. My only wish is for you to hold your inflammatory and generalized remarks (i.e. "total crap") until you understand what it is you are seeing.

  • These techniques do not work. It cracks me up to see guys doing all this "energy" stuff. Tai Chi is an art form: a form of relaxation. It is not a combat art. Like I said before, if these techniques truly worked, they would be incorporated into practical fighting.

  • This is total B.S. If this was soooo effective, wouldn't world champions and mma/ufc fighters use this to diasble their eniemies. THIS IS TOTAL crap and anyone who buys into it is crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • MMA is a sport, Tai Chi is not a sport. That is why you won't find Tai Chi players fighting in MMA. As for this being fake, I don't think a person can throw themseves back so forcefully. Try to move one way and then suddenly go in a different direction in one second. Or ask someone who knows Tai Chi Chuan to show you.

  • those who Dun believe go and try him and get to experience the power of taiji jing

  • It would be easy to watch this video and assume that this was not real or that the student was helping the teacher look good. I can assure you that having been on the recieving end of his PUSH HANDS, this it TAI CHI at the highest level. It is effortless and effective. GRANDMASTER CHENG posesses the greatest skill of this art and we are very fortunate to have him in the U.S. If you ever have the good fortune of working with him, any doubt will be removed at once.

  • Very good demonstration. I saw Yang Jwing Ming demonstrate some of the same...You guys that think this art is a joke need to get a clue. Tai chi is still one of the most misunderstood martial arts in the west. Probably always will be. Now that is done more as an exercise than anything else.

  • Part 3:

Believe me when I say that Chinese Martial Arts are very effective. I am no superman, and I have lost just as much (maybe more) as I have won. But for all those keyboard warriors who may doubt any Chinese Martial Arts, my instructor, or my school please feel free to contact me so that we could exchange some lessons. Don't flaunt your masculinity on the screen - let's talk hands.

  • well I would love to take some classes chinese martial arts, here in belgium they as a ridiculous amount of money to learn it: well at the moment I practise taekwondo and muay thai

  • Part 2:

This is also a learning environment in a respected school, not a challenge match. The students would be showing very bad manners if they tried to surprise their instructor while he was busy teaching them a principle. Chinese Martial Arts do also develop Wu De: martial ethics or martial virtue.

  • Part 1:

This is to all others who place IGNORANT and ill-mannered comments on this video. This is a teaching segment on various principles in pushing hands practice - not to showcase purely combative elements. Pushing hands is an element of training for the purposes of building sensitivity, understanding energy, and nuetralizing energy. In no way is it a form of combat. However when done correctly it can dramatically augment a person's combat skill.

  • hey guys this is "PUSH HANDS". If you know Taiji, Push Hands is only meant for practising push and pull, footwork, deflect and press. It's not an actual sparring exercise where attacks are meant to be varied or unanticipated. There are actual combat sparring, but that's a whole different thing. This is NOT. So, don't slam this if you don't understand it.

  • these guys either have no root, or they're trying to preserve the chen master's face.

  • It bothers me that there is no variation in thier attacks. No surprise element, and therefor very predictable. Balance though, is always impressive.

  • very good sort of. u can definitely tell the master is good cuz the last guy, u see him pushing all his body weight into him.

but i think the rolling of the students are done by the students as an exaggeration.

but yea the master's form looks very good

  • It's not an exaggeration, rather, a defensive fall, so that the force can be rolled out of your body to reduce the injury to the minimum. If one doesn't make an "exaggerated" roll, one is fighting against the force transmitted to his/her body, causing a "jam" of the energy, resulting in internal injuries, though minor, in the practice session where the teacher does not really apply a strong force to the students.

  • I don't understand what causes people to follow this so blindly, and I really wonder if the instructor walks around all day thinking he's Hoss and can own anybody, or if he is actually thinking "retards actually believe in this shit." I could lay the smack down on any of these candy asses, and I don't know any martial arts. none of the moves or actions appeal to logic in any sense. It's fake as Pamela Anderson's tits, thats all there is to it.

  • One has to try to know whether this is real or a "staged" performance. Everybody is entitled to be skeptical about anything, but to avoid being totally ignorant is to get some personal experience or first-hand knowledge about the matter one has questions of.

  • the students are not very skilled at tuishou, no pengjing, they are going with him, not very impressive

  • In fact, some, if not all, of the students are very skilled. The first student appearing on the video is already a master himself. Many others have also won gold medals at the advanced level in national and international championship tournaments in the US and/or China.

  • People....ITS ALL PHYSICS!!!!! Jesus Christ......

  • hey genius!! we all knw that physx exists!! its how u use and manipul8 it.. and thats martial arts!! and dont use Jesus's name in vain!!

  • he is good..but this is nothing compare to what i have seen... a real taichi pushing hand... this is like aikido...

  • omg i got pushed like that before.. wow this shi fu so rough man...

  • I sure wish the camera was on the other side of the mat.

  • that looks so easy.... xD

  • 為什麼"被表演"的人不稍為抵抗一下呢?

    哪有那麼容易摔倒!

    那個師父身體幾乎都是站得直挺挺的!

  • what a bunch of god damn jap crap bull shit. the guy in the white shirt is just throwing himself on the ground everytime........ the "master" as you idiots call him is just making some movements and some fancy sex noises when his "student" throws himself to the ground.

  • Hi watch the Steven Segal vid for Aikido, you will think that he is doing taichi under the guise of Aikido...same thing as far as I can see,you should see the fire if you can smell the smoke, real natural power, of force and direction, like the force diagram of moving bodies, Phyisics, allied with self confidence to let the attacker attack...

  • This is a shame that we have to resort to RACIST comments and outright insults. Constructive criticism is one thing, but this is unnecessary and irrelevant.

  • What an amazingly remarkable comment from an idividual with an equally brilliant mind such as yours. Touche! It's great to see individuals that recognize the difference in the many arts, as well as their origins. It's obvious the "sex noises" captivated you enough to view this video to its entirety. TR86, please bless us with a link(s) that demonstrate your spectacular martial arts, from a "master" such as you.

  • I'd just like to throw into this convo. I have been a student of the Yang Style for a few years now. Having been on the receiving end of a few of those techniques I assure you the student is not throwing himself. Also, yeah Aikido and Taiji are very similar in theory, I have practiced both. There are also some very important distinctions between the arts that become apparent with practice. Also TR86 is an idiot.

  • A-fucking-men!!! Goddam morons are so stupid to believe this horseshit.

  • who let you in here? this stuff is reserved for martial artists - no matter who you might study under, respect had to have been taught - somewhere in your training -

  • o, u tryin ta start somthin biaaachh?

  • sweet vid, where Cheng Jincai located

  • In Houston, Texas.

  • The Master teacher - Cheng Jincai is a successor of the 18th generation Grand master Chen Zhaokui in North America. He is Chairman of American Chen Style Tai Chi Federation.

  • Thank you for showing what is "yong yi bu yong li" in many variations especially in its "yin" aspect.

  • nice who is his master?

  • awesome vid
