Yeah. Popolocrois for PSP is actually a port of Popolocrois 1 and 2 for the PSX. So you're right. However, why does he list Disgaea like it's the first tactical RPG. Not only is Disgaea a terrible game, but there are plenty of tactical RPGs that came out before hand.
Play Tactics Ogre, Tactics Ogre KoL, Brigandine, Brigandine Grand Edition, or Dark Wizard.
@kupomogli Agreed. Disgaea's story was cool-ish, but not that fun of a game from what i remember. Tactics ogre was great for it's time, but i can't handle it now. though, i still like March of the Black Queen (not the same system at all, but one of the greatest games of it's time)
BTW Vandal Hearts was a beast of a game. Play that game and Front Mission.
Hey Duck! I don't know if it's a Scottish spelling or something but as far as I'm aware, it's "Occur", not "Occour". Not trying to be rude, just saying. ^_^ Nice LP so far!
The little acorn runs around with its shirt pulled up around its head, yelling "Are you threatening me?? I AM ACORNHOLIO! You do not want to face the wrath of my bunghole!"
Yea Disgaea isn't the first game to use a grid system also the people who made Disgaea made La Pucelle: Tactics and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure before making Disgaea. The last thing is Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Tsurugi(the first Fire Emblem game) was the first to use the gird system.
1:54 - Yes, but most people probably have no idea where 'Attack his weak point for massive damage' originated. Because I guarantee that 99 out of 100 people on this site only know it because of Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series.
You wouldn't really play it because of the loads? Tell me one thing: which rpg with random battles does not have anything like that? So, most other games use some kind of optical effect to cover it, the frame shatters or fades, the party jumps into position... It's all the same.
It looks sorta similar to Disgaea if you squint, but is different enough beyond basic aesthetic that I'd not accuse it of borrowing. Especially considering this is a PSX game and Disgaea first came out on the PS2.
You guys are all fucking dumb. Hundreds of RPGs have random encounters.

lol the style of the game did actually remind me a bit of windwaker. just the whole tone of the atmosphere
tarkeke 1 year ago
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure used the exact same battle system. :P
Not sure which one came first though.

Pokemon, Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger. Pretty much any SNES or GBA RPG.

Yes, because we all know that Pokemon is a Tactics RPG.

as surprising as it may sound, Pokemon is a bit more complex once you get into the smogen competitive meta game.

Well, it's not really like an SRPG in the slightest. It's more like Live A Live for the SNES.

what do you think about this game for an lp? rogue galaxy
things scottish duck might like about it:
beautiful and very colorful graphics
grunts sometimes are harder than the bosses for the challenge
lots of weapons
a cheesy but good and funny story
levelgrinding (good for his lps :P, but he might cut it out if it takes too long)
lots of opportunities for duck to lose his temper.

Vandal Hearts also has that grid system. Same with Final Fantasy Tactics and the little known Gladius on Xbox/PS2/Gamecube. That was a great game...
