  • Walmart.com

  • Got one of those off Amazon some time last year despite the large number of negative reviews over build quality. Mine seems to run OK and was useful during the big hurricane power outage last summer. Great for testing out fresh-burned CDs.

  • You said that that CD was a TDK, when really and truly that CD is a MAXELL, but that CD player looks kinda interesting....., in the sense of being MONO!! (I find it kinda boring though)

  • 2:22 lolololololol!

  • I'm looking to buy one for my camping trips. Do you think its loud enough to hear over outside noise?

  • @natlovesboo It's pretty loud... You could use it outside. :) JC

  • I just saw one of those this weekend, for sale at a nearby Kmart.

  • @weasel2htm They're making them again... I saw one for sale on-line. They've updated the look a bit but it's basically the same machine. :) JC

  • My unit has a blue CD player door and not a white one as yours does. I believe the model number of the unit I have is PR-D308. I once saw one of these units on Ebay.

  • Thanks! I have been looking on eBay for the Emerson tape/radio combo I mentioned in the video but it has not popped up yet. I'd like to have it to display next to the CD/radio combo. :) JC

  • My sister has that in her apartment. We also happen to see it one summer while on the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ. It was in some store playing a CD of ambient surf sounds.

  • They are unusual but they sold quite a few, I think. I have had several folks tell me about encounters with them since I posted this video. :) JC

  • I used to see these in some of the offices I delivered to, I always wanted one, love the design of it-

  • defeats the idea of pure full spectrum CD digital sound with a 3" speaker working overtime - & never seen one around these parts

  • It does not sound that bad, believe it or not. I do a lot of mix CD's and I use audio processing on the final mixdown that makes them sound like good FM radio. That helps get as much sound into that little speaker. Plus, it sounds good on the big stereo and in the car, too. Still, even super dynamic jazz and classical sounds surprisingly good. Emerson used to make radio/cassette players that were very similar to this unit. They sounded very good and made fantastic tapes. I miss those.

  • Emerson also makes some CD/radio/tape combos, they're probably just as good at recording considering their reputation with their older tape/radios.

  • I wnet to their web page a while back and I didn't see anything that really impressed me but they might have come up with some new stuff since then... :) JC

  • You end the video with the words "more to come", and I want more. Why no more videos?

  • Sorry... been busy lately. I'll try and get some other audio toys up here soon.

    :)

  • Grand, I thought you'd died or something. Nice to hear from you. Does the mono cd player sound good with a mono to stereo (double mono) adapter, into headphones?

  • It has a stereo headphone jack in it so audio appears in both ears in mono, of coarse. Unfortunately, the jack is wired 180 degrees out of phase so with stereo headphones it sounds like the audio is coming from inside your head! I don't think this was intentional and could be fixed easily but I never use headphones with this unit so I have not bothered with it.

  • Okay, NOW I've seen everything! I wonder if they make black-and-white only DVD players? Hmmm....

  • That's a VERY NICE CD player,AND it's MONO...amazing!Nice presentation!

  • What an amazing machine! MONO CD? What were they thinking? I love seeing the CD play in the window! 7.5 volt system. External input jack for power? I hate buying batteries! Nice video, very well presented. Now go play with your son! Thanks!

  • It's just so wrong, isn't it? I had to have one! Thanks!
