Brilliant, and very moving. Thanks for uploading! I'd like kids to watch this and be inspired by, perhaps even inspired to go into, science. (And I say this as someone in the humanities!)
Apriciate the upload, very imformative and educative. I adore Hawkings and is up there on a peddle stool with the rest of the hosts of this wonderful program, But after watching the 2 episodes I couldn't help but think about the history of science before the 16 - 17 centuries.. what is the history of science before then either in Britain or the world?
And then in 2010, the David Cameron and his posh mates removed all funding for science and destroyed over four centuries of world-leading scientific breakthroughs so that their clueless, selfish voters could pay less tax and get even richer.
@Nilguiri None of the above geniuses received government funding; and as you're talking politics: thanks to Gordon Brown and Labour's insane economic profligacy the coalition government has the rotten job of clearing up the huge mess. But economic realities like a current deficit of 12% don't matter to people like you, do they? You just carry on beating the old class drum. I want intelligent and honest politicians, whether posh or not is immaterial as long as they do a good job.
When I was an undergraduate I did a term paper on Stephen Hawking. I was pretty sure he was going to die soon. Thirty years ago the doctors gave him six months to live. It is 2010 and he is still making documentaries left and right! What the hell?
I think this man has secretly discovered how to live forever. Look at the twinkle in his eye.
Part one was based around the few men of the 1660s.
There is a jump of over 100 years before the next breakthroughs.
Why is this?
Almost a century of silence before the next wave of inquiring minds.
