It's not the fact that Aang is younger than Katara that bugs me, it;s how young they both still are. The two of them make an okay couple in general I guess, but I love Zutara more because they had gone through so much together and you did have those moments that didn't sometimes seem forced on like Kataang, Just my opinion.

Kataang: Katara is waaaaay to motherly toward Aang throughout the whole series for me to ever be able to see them in a serious relationship. Plus, it was portrayed to be too one-sided (on Aang's part).
Maiko: It was just awkward. Zuko had a sad life and he hated it, yet he chooses Mai, a walking ball of depression. They didn't have good chemistry either. Sure, they kissed a lot, but kissing does not mean you have good chemistry.
Zutara: Lots of chemistry. Though it as subtle chemistry, it was believable. There were several moments in the series that made Zutara more believable for me than Kataang.
@itsnoneofyourconcern Katara is motherly to everyone. Including Zuko, the CoD scene is total mommy kissing the boo-boo better. But there's a bunch of non-mom scenes between Katara and Aang, and I don't think it's one sided. The build up during season 3 for kataang wasn't good, but the build up in season 3 overall wasn't good. But over the whole show, Katara has some definite interest in Aang, though she denies it.
@itsnoneofyourconcern Zutara...in the show didn't exist in my opinion. But, after watching the movie, I'm a total Zutara!Movie shipper. ;D But again, in the show, it just...there wasn't anything there. She didn't like him, he didn't like her.

There is the Odd, Lifeless couple (Zuko/Mai), the Kiss You/Baby You Whether You Like It Or Not couple (Aang/Katara), and the Random People Who Fall For Each Other In, Like, Two Days couple (Sokka/Suki). I can accept the ships as canon just fine. I am just disappointed with how they were portrayed. If they were portrayed well enough, Zutara would not be so popular, I think.
@itsnoneofyourconcern I dunno, I don't like Sukka (TOKKA FTW), So it's not just cannonness that appeals to me. Maiko isn't lifeless, it's tilted. Kataang is not my favorite ship, but it's cute. Zutara just doesn't exist. Not in the show. There isn't a single scene that even whispers that they're couple material to me.
I think the main difference in shippers is that most prefer either "falling in love with best friend" or "love/hate, Opposites attract" type of thing.

Sure they have differences in their nations and their overall personalities, but they are just too similar in so many ways that it interferes with the Ying and Yang relationships Bryke goes for. Zutara is often reffered to as Ying and Yange, but if you ask me Kataaang is more so.
