Well, back in the day the Japanese wanted to make movies but couldn't afford hollywood actors so they decided to draw them & that's how anime was born. That style of animation of course trickled down to the games they made I assume b/c everyone was familiar with it & so thats why they often look european. Then when they perform it live they use Japanese actors...because they're in Japan...I hope that helped you out.
