  • Sooo Disney!

  • Comfort, comfort, why do you run for it? Why can't you keep doing what you're supposed to do?

  • where am i right now?

  • This is amazing

  • flute part reminds me of mario rpg SO MUCH

  • I Love Animal Collective.

  • The ending always reminds me of the episode of southpark where the u.s gets invaded by peruvian pan flute bands. it reminds me of it in a good way. more songs should have these kind of pan flute endings :)

  • Sounds Christmassy. I love it!

  • I love Anmal Collective

  • 3:13 i just got soooo happy

  • forgot how much i love this song

  • what a DELICIOUS soud.

  • The flute is genius. It kind of reminds me of some children's programmes that have a similar happy, flute/wind instrument sound.

But that's what's genius. Who else would think to turn put some drums and a bass synth over the top of that sort of sound, and turn it into something so incredible?

  • What the hell you talking about. The flute makes the whole song!

  • i was listening to this song on mushrooms and when the panflutes kicked in and the beat dropped i KNEW that this is the music our kids will be listening to.

  • haha I dont find the flute horrible, its very funny and a bit bizarre! :)

  • Awesomely awesome... Heck, it's perfect ;).

  • @PlanetaZeroNet how can such a big part of the song be horrible if the song is incredible?

  • @Stagsomat What I'm saying is that the SOUND of the FLUTE is horrible. In my opinion it breaks the magic atmosphere. It's like get into a circus after an interestellar journey. Maybe it's the contrast they wanted to create. It's only my opinion

  • @PlanetaZeroNet Understandable.

  • Can someone tell me something: could they have just kept on going, and going (like the energizer battery) at the end? Like, I mean possibly forever? I love Noah's back-up track (harmony). It does something to me that I can't explain. THey only repeat that chorus (if you want to even call it that) a few times, and then the song is cut short, and moves in to What Do I Want, Sky, an equally killer track. My I love AC, but PB's Tomboy will hopefully be released by summer, if there's any justice.

  • I love it!!

  • Very unusual band, but the melodies are excellent and the sound is great. I didn't know about this E.P. until recently and I'm glad I found it, it's brilliant!

  • Comfort, comfort

Why do you run for it?

    Why can't you keep doing

    What you're supposed to do?

Why do you have to go?

Why do you have to go?

  • Interesting combination - This song contain a fragment from a song called Ardeleana. This is a romanian song composed and played by Maestro Gheorghe Zamfir - the king of the PanFlute . He recorded in Switzerland to Marcel Cellier`s house - an organ player (in fact in his bathroom) in 1968 he superpose all the 4 panpipes - he recorded one by one and than he superposed it all . The entire song can be heard on LES FLUTES ROUMAINES / VOL. 2 - les inedites de Gheorghe Zamfir .

  • @rostrings Thanks for the info! :)

  • @rostrings Alright, don't go on about it.

  • when the jam really kicks in, I feel like it has this innocent, calm part about it, but the electronic bass sound that kicks in with the drums sounds gargantuan and overwhelming. something the band does very well, a mix of something that can be approaching scary but with the right kind of eyes/ears, you learn to understand the vibe of the shaman.

  • well put

  • Does this album cover remind anybody else of the one for Pink Floyd's Meddle? Different in colour obviously but in tone similar.

  • yeah it definitely reminds me of Meddle

  • I never noticed until now. Pretty cool

  • they really dont. i think the thing that 'sukz dyk' is your utterly vile writing. this band is something unique and utterly incredible really.

  • really funny chap.

  • Wonderful as usual!

  • anybody know who Zamfir is ??

  • A Romanian panflutist. He's regarded as being one of the best, and calls himself "king of the panflute". He's not bad when he sticks to his native Romanian folk, but his new age-y covers of cheesy 80s adult contemporary pop hits are beyond terrible.

  • Zamfir is the one who wrote and performed "The Lonely Shepard". Everyone've heard it, even if they don't know it.

  • Awesome.

  • i like how ever since twitter came out people are using @ replies to people on youtube xD

  • Some computers such as mac and vista automatically put that when you press reply.

  • oh cool

  • @PS3WiiKyle14, Yea mine does it automatically, when I hit the reply button. Great song by the way, i'm just getting into Animal Collective and I must say, I'm beyond impressed...

  • Yeah I saw the EP up on Metacritic got good reviews in the 80's looked em up great stuff

  • @PS3WiiKyle14, Yea There Pretty Much as good as people say they are.. Hey I'm assuming you have a ps3..I just got a ps3 slim the other day, looking for people to add My I.D. is joechillworld..add me if you want.....

  • Oh cool what games you have, I have alot but I am addicted to MW2

  • @PS3WiiKyle14m Same here And Uncharted 2 that game is amazing

  • this is the weirdest damn thing. i've been listening to this EP and playing Uncharted 2 nonstop for weeks

  • Brilliant. The perfect soundtrack to walk under the snow.

  • This Ep is great, i'm glad we can count on AC to release enough music. I wasn't completely over Merriweather yet and now this.

  • Rigoe my english isn't enough, I don't see if you're ironic or not...?

    I just like Vangelis.

  • reminds me of St. Vincent

  • Yes rigoesamorable, I see the connection with Vangelis, but he's really better than AC...

  • absolutely right ... none of the clodding schmaltz making jon & Van unbearable ... quite beautiful the more I listen

  • hmm

too much medieval in the flute part

    cool begining

a bit much on the playful melody part

  • @1afoohs1 Strong melodies are one of the best things about this band. It's hardly playful as much as it just kicks ass. As good in this song as any other in my opinion.

  • 3:00 on is purely magical.

  • most definately

  • "once, we did run ... chasi ..."

  • It appears as though fall WAS kind to Animal Collective fans...wonderful, as usual.

  • uuuuuuuuhhhh artless lifting of Vangelis's (with Jon Anderson's) "So Long Ago So Clear" anyone?

  • Be careful, an angel is playing trumpet on the cover.

  • Guys, It's not really the fact of how great this album is compared to the other ones. The point is too understand how good the group is at writing music, and I really like this song. It's just unique, you know?

  • This entire song is fuego, i like this ep better than MPP

But this song has been on repeat since it leaked...

  • Still though, that sung tungs album is by far, the best. In my opinion.

  • @MansoonArising agreed! maybe my favorite album ever at that

  • @GDplanetrockGD Yea, true that! haha, but that yellow house album by Grizzley Bear runs a close race.

  • I knew i remembered hearing this song... was called pan flute music.. very lovely.

  • if i had feelings i would use them......sparingly

  • how new is this song?

  • Idk, before 3:00 is pretty awesome as well. Very harmonic, and the sweeping echoing vocals sound marvelous. at like 1:16 when the piano comes in is great as well. i think it's an all around great song, a logical next step for them after MPP and it sounds brilliant!

  • Comment removed

  • eh, i think its a good opening into the Ep ya know? come into it slow, it was like that with MPP. in the flowers starts out real slow and sorta boring, and once that explosion, per say, comes then its just awesome after

  • 3:10 and on. SO amazing.

  • much better than merriweather, i must say. wasn't too sure about that album, hopefully i'll get into it more soon.

  • This song is so beautiful...reminds me of Bjork.

  • i love this. really reminds me of old AC.

  • like from when?

  • awesome!!!!!!! once you give a chance to animal collective, they become one of the best bands ever!

  • mlavsko kolo

  • hmmm.... this ep is really good, so good i'd have to call it a album and include it with my top choices of best albums of2009... The xx, hospice, why there are mountains, the girls album (lust for life), mos def embryonic (flamming lips are the shit!!) but yea thanks for uploading!!!!

  • i've always been a big animal collective fan from campfire songs all the way to merriweather. this new album sounds like it's going to be amazing and i can't wait for it.

  • This displays their current state of mind so well. They've been touring almost constantly since the beginning of 2009, so they've been on the road more than at home. They know their purpose is to play music, but they also have family and things they find comfort in that you can't get on the road. The balance between music and family can be complicated, especially if you are a touring musician.

  • i like this every album is different in a couple of years their new album is going come out and you will say miss graze[fall be kind]

  • Pan Flute. Right up there with steel drum and glockenspiel as one of the best instruments ever.

  • new sounds. give it a chance

  • @blackriverapples ... Yea complex songs with varying arrangements minus catchy pop jingles every couple of seconds must make you feel lost in the wilderness huh? Must sound like a bunch of difficult to decipher noise filtering through your simple brain? Just cover your ears next time, it'll stave off the confusion.

  • my fav off new

  • <3 these songz

    h8 all of u

    miss sung tongs :*(

  • Animal Collective is gonna rule 2010 just like they ruled 2009 with Merriweather!!!! Just come back to The Metro because last show was amazing!

  • I can't wait to trip to this EP

  • i second that

  • whyyyyy do you have to go?

  • carnival-esque

  • panflute-orgasm

  • I love ALL of it.

  • i loled all over myself when the flutes started its soo funny!

  • I never thought I'd find a song where I would especially look forward to the pan flute section. This song is amazing.

  • Ha ha soooo true! I love how it builds up and explodes with a crescendo of pan-flutey goodness.

  • a friend of mine and i were thinking the new ep is first and foremost the best ep weve ever heard we also decided that it kind of sounds like if nsync was hanging out with jay-z and they ran into the flaming lips who gave them all some acid and met brian wilson in the studio to record thoughts?

  • I agree, but more sugar ray, less nsync

  • nsync?

    i can see the rest

  • Ha ha! That is awesome. I love the comments AC fans leave, so funny.

  • masterpiece

  • 00:00 - 3:00 the song is just meandering atmospherics.

3:00 till the end, the song is amazing.

  • 3:00 till the end, the song is amazing.

    ..... why?

  • @brightsuperstition SUCH a pretentious thing to say man. come on. just enjoy the music

  • only animal collective could pull off sampling Zamfir (the panflutes) and get away with it.

  • Can you perhaps link me to whatever Zamfir song they sampled?

Or, if not link, give the name or something?

    Thanks!

  • "Ardeleana" by Gheorghe Zamfir And Marcel Cellier

  • Thanks!

  • The cover of Fall Be Kind reminds me of the cover of Pink Floyd's Meddle.

  • Good call! Great fucking album too.

  • can't wait for the fucking EP

  • its out

  • i thought it was suppose to out on 12/9

  • The digital copy came out yesterday, but the...material? copy comes out later...and it leaked earlier.

  • yeah but it leaked

  • Fall Be Kind is really good this and What Would I Want? Sky being the best.

  • on a highway is my favourite

  • and does anyone else see the a little elf on the cover art, he's the one playing the flute in the second half of this song ha

  • he's for sure smoking a pipe, thus inspiring him to write this song

  • and then doing to the jolliest jig to it once he played it back for himself

  • @aaronthewolf

yeeaaaaa forest elvessssss pan flute jam

  • listening to it now... shit's crrazy right now.

  • this song is dope. this ep great, a little prospect hummer a little merriweather

  • The panflute jam is sampled from a Romanian folk song called Ardeleana.

  • 3:00 - 3:11 sounds almost exactly like "Goriri" by Tortoise.

  • The song structure reminds me of Pink Floyd "Jugband Blues", where the first half is Syd Barrett lunatic lament on acoustic guitar, and somewhere in the middle a jazz band suddently appears and play randomly.

  • YESH!!! YESH!! This is delicious!

  • and that album cover...haunting, i love it

  • one of the most important bands today? i think so...

  • i love the vocals in the beginning!

  • hop hop hop hop hopaaa!

  • Get a program called Soulseek

  • @smackandaquarter soulseek is the BEST

  • 3:00 till end _O_

  • avey tare's best vocal ever

  • Ridiculous. He doesn't even do an Avey scream (:

Rev green is the best Avey vocal.

  • agreed on the Reverend part. 100% my favorite Avey or AC song in general.

  • i really dont think so. i like when its harder to pick up on what hes saying. this seems a bit too overproduced

  • It sure does sound like a musical. I'd love to watch it.

  • ive been wondering when they would put a studio version of this song out, i had to use the live version for a video a long time ago

    /watch?v=523Iev55rEM

  • i enjoy much

  • I think, that this is pretty. For an untrained voice Avery Tare can whail when he wants to.

  • Oh yes, this is how I like my Animal Collective. Sorry MPP.

  • i like animal collective. and i agree that some of their music could be categorized as absurd. but its different and it usually always grows on me. so kudos for difference.

  • the second part incorporates balkanian folklore !! big up from romania!!

  • BEATLES OF OUR TIME.

  • Fag.

  • hahahahahahaha no. nooo no no no. i guarantee you even animal collective themselves would disagree/laugh/fight you for saying something like that

  • They pretty much are dude. They're arguably the most influential pop band right now and they consistently put out good music that is experimental. People remember the Beatles as the best band of their era and I have no doubt people will do the same for AnCo.

  • this is absurd

  • in a good way

  • Animal Collective pretty much always are.

Weird for the sake of weird.

And to everyone who's going to hate this comment, the fact is people who GENUINELY want to listen to experimental/avant-garde music actually look further than Pitchfork.

  • well.... i'm a pop fan and not really an experimental/avant-garde aficionado so I don't hear the "weird" as much as I do the beautiful melodies and harmonies.

  • Fair enough.

Too many people think Animal Collective are the most adventurous musicians in the world and hit back at any criticism of them with comments like, "It's just too experimental for you", or claim they are the new Beatles...

  • Famousashtray is embarrassed that he reads pitchfork.

  • i laughed

  • oh yeah? so mr. hipster is better than pitchfork now. just listen to the goddam song, admit that it is brilliant, and leave

  • "...and the track turns into a disarmingly weird hobbit dance jam."

I'd say that's pretty accurate lol.

  • i thought fireworks was called bottle rocket

  • ahhh... i love the sound of new animal collective in the evening.

  • Best band ever.

  • AGREED

  • LOVE X A TRILLION

  • They've blown my mind once again
