Alvin is only lead because he's cocky and Brittany's lead because Ian liked her better than the other two. She was actually lead for being cocky too, in the cartoon. I also thought it was sad that Jeanette wasn't in it enough and her and Simon never got a romantic moment.

A funny bit of personal trivia: Before I knew what the Chipettes were going to look like normal chipmunks at first, but then Ian would give them human clothes and wigs. I thought this might be a silly way of poking fun at the fact that the cartoon versions really do look like they're wearing wigs. I think they're live action looks were really good though.
