Ive just moved over this way from South-East London and my observations are...

EVERYTHING is falling to pieces.

The roads, pavements, buildings...everything.

The postal service is a fucking DISGRACE...Ive had LOADS of stuff "go missing" from Basildon sorting office...cos their all bent in there.

The town is full of scruffy chavs who all look SO poor.

It makes where I come from (Bexley) look like Beverly Hills.

But...

I do find the people very nice!

It's a great town but too many people take the p out of it for no reason. So many people are quick to slag it off even if they live there and my motto is if you don't like it go elsewhere, but they end up not going so it can't be as bad as they say lol

I moved from London to Basildon and don't regret it as it 1000 times better, nicer people, nicer area, a lot less crime... don't get me wrong it's not perfect and there are problems and work to be done but it's a lovely little town :-)

I love it!! moved from London to Basildon 3 years ago and don't regret it. London is much worse and infact a lot of boroughs in London came in the top 10 of worst places to live the past several years, Basildon didn't even make an entry.

I have to disagree, I moved to Basildon from London and Basildon is great especially compared to London. Alot of my family lived there and love it, never had any problems.

Yeah it isn't perfect and there are some shitty ares but overall it's one if the best towns I have ever been privilidged to visit and it can't be that bad if you live there still otherwise you would have moved out.
