If you listen to the intro riff and in fact the riff throughout the song and compare it to the album version you'll notice it's being played a bit differently. Not sure if it's just artistic license or to accommodate the orchestra, but I can see why no one recognized it at first

lol, yeah, still to me it sounds like he's sounding the exact same high note twice. on the album the second high note is higher than the first. Honestly I've loved this band since they came out and I had to wait for the lyrics before I realized what they were playing! I can see why they're dropping a key though. When I was covering these songs in a local band our vocalist would have fried his pipes if we played in the albums key!
