The spinning at distance without fins is caused by the fact that your track does not have a groove and your rubber bands pull your projectiles clear off the end. Make your track a bit wider so you can have a channel down the middle of it to keep the pencil square with its flight path and extend it a good four to five inches past the ends of the rubber bands and you'll get much better accuracy. Having the band disappear through the bottom of the track when fired keeps you from losing it too.
