@thehjupo I just used my usual Tamiya or Gunze acrylics for the paintwork, but because this is what is known as a 'short run' kit, meaning you can expect a bit of work to get the pieces to fit, although they may have fantastic surface detail. I got it online from modelhobbies.
@ModellMeister Thank you. No, the three paint schemes for this little fellow are 'What ifs' as the plane never entered service, although I do believe the scheme I chose is based on an actual combat scheme!
I've never seen so cool scale model of an japanese aircraft from WWII! But i think you have made a little mistake with decals on underside you haven't added wash over them and they look a bit strange but the model really looks awesome! :) 5****!
@tankman13p66 Thanks! Yup, those decals are incredibly thick. Because the Japanese Hinamaru roundel is about as simple as you can get, I even thought about making a mask and spraying them on, but went with the decals anyway. The problem with them was that because of their thickness, no amount of microset setting solution was going to make the bed into the panel lines and they refused to take the weathering pigment also. I've since cut them where the wing flaps are and that's helped! A little! :)
By the way, very well done for completing yet another model.. I hope to get my B-24 J done this weekend, so I can get going properly on the B-17... :)
@BasicModelling I know! This is getting to be a habit! Before I know it, I'll be completing others as well! Looking forward to the B-24 build with bated breath....
@MakingModelsAgain It would have been ready for decalling, had I not painted the antiglare panel black instead of olive drab in front of the cockpit.. it needs repainting and should look better for it! Other than that decalling will commence tonight, once puppy, wife and son have gone to bed and I can concentrate.. I hpe for dry weather tomorrow as I will try and get some photos outside, with natural daylight, just to see if it makes a difference.. :)
@MakingModelsAgain I'm quite willing to take all the blame in this case.. with a smile on my face as I do so!! Glad to see you're modelling proper too, from the start.. :)
@BasicModelling And I'm going to take your suggestion in hand Rob, and try to set up a little corner with a nice even background and fit a balanced light source above it, instead of a tatty cutting mat! However I did try a couple of different locations for this one, including full sunlight and I did google WWII Japanese Airfields for a suitable backdrop, but to no avail!
@MakingModelsAgain Yes, there's very few if any useful photos of any tropical WWII type airfield out there.. Luckily I was able to get some photos of genuine Boxted Nissen huts to use as backdrops for some of my Boxted models, before the new owner knocked them down.. As it is now I prefer the large light blue paper anyway, as it is neutral and can be used for all types of models.. :)
@primativemodelling You're very kind.. There, now.. I've just hated you for about 5 seconds.. that'll do! Don't want to overdo things.. :) Now I love you again.. :D
@primativemodelling Yeah, they were very thick decals and no amount of Micro Sol was going to make them set into the lines fully and the carrier film is is like a rampart around them. The final matt coat helped with weathering the film and hiding it a little. If that's what you're referring to...? (Hoping!!!!) ;)
@MakingModelsAgain actually it is decalling....on the underside of the wings the decals go from the wings to the flaps in one peice they need seperating....hope you see what i mean : )
@primativemodelling Gotcha! I ran the scalpel under it's own weight through the decals to separate them and applied a liberal coat of setting solution that will hopefully bed the cut ends into the line between wing and flap! I'll accentuate that with a hint of weathering pigment! :)
@chancerNW Thanks a'much! I'd never seen this plane before and it wouldn't surprise me if those photos I used were the only ones in existence as info on this little fellow was VERY thin on the ground!
Very clever changing your spinning INAFIX to a Hinamaru.. An excellent and well executed build of an unusual aircraft.. And the model is absolutely superb!! I wish I could airbrush.. but never mind.. :)
@BasicModelling ha ha ha ha ,im serious....its sooo small, ive not worked in this scale for a long time..its going into the stash untill my mind is ready for it ! MUST FINISH PRESENT PROJECTS aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh : )
@BasicModelling Picked the worst time to make a video about a Japanese subject though, huh?
As for airbrushing...? The Typhoon that made an appearance in the video...? That lovely(?) grey coat is its 'fourth' (and final) attempt. God bless Fairy Power Spray!
@svinehunden Cheers! I thought about doing the middle scheme - the mottle over the aluminium - but in this scale, I don't think my current airbrushing skills could pull off that mottling!
nice color the airplane has, really cool

Nicely painted, what did you use for the panels? Where did you get it from ? must have been hard with all that filler
