@xpelanzax "Sorry, but Bismarck should be the 1st" uh, no. Besides sinking an old WW 1 BC (which the Prinz Eugen most likely did) what did the Bismarck do?
"lot of destroyers" how many is "a lot"
"planes" the USS South Dakota took out 26 IJN aircraft (not slow biplanes the Brits used) by herself in October '42
"bombs" how many bombs was the Bismarck hit with?
Sorry, the SoDak and N Carolina USN BBs were better than the Bismarck and they're not Iowas
I have to say that ALL 4 IOWA class battleships should have been on your list!
Especially the Iowa, Herself. The Iowa STILL holds the record of the longest first shell hit in HISTORY of 26.4 Nautical miles!! All of the Iowa class battleships fought in WW2. And all four had cruising speeds of 32 to 33 knots with a top speed of 35+ knots. You really should do your homework "before" you make a video.
Seems you got STUCK in 1941 for some reason with your list, WHY????!!????
What tool places the Hood - as fine a ship as she was - ahead of the Bismarck, places both of them ahead of the Yamato, then throws in modern American aircraft carriers in a "battleship" vid to boot? :/
Why did you pick the Yamato, whose sole contribution to the IJN was to suck up a lot a fuel, fire a lot of shells (around 200) before hitting a slow moving CVE once and being the center piece in a lesson to pure futility aka "Operation Sho-Go"?
Also, why the Bismarck when all it could take on was a WW1 Battlecruiser (and BCs had this problem of blowing up) and a BB that wasn't ready for the sea? It was not "innovative" it just was an enlarged Scharnhorst
hood was over twenty years old and had no major refit but was still serving as a frontline ship, in hindsight it is no surprise she did not survive the fierce fighting at sea in the first years of WW2.
the iowas of course were obselete when completed and never ever got to fight another BB since carriers were the dominant force at sea bythat period of the war.
the best american BBs of WW2 in my opinion were the south dakotas, available at the right time with good all round qualities.
Hood was not a BB it was a CA 0_o battlecruiser and the CV6 was sunk the only original CV that made it through out the war was the Saratoga wich wa sunk in the Bikini atol with an atomic bomb 0_o
@supergarand any ship could sink any ship...me with a drill could sink any ship..who cares.what puts these ships up there is the history behind them as they did there job. This video is an opinion of Joshisourfriend & one hes entitled too...not Fact. The Hood did sink after firing the shot that crippled and lead to the sinking of the Bismark. So a well earned place in history. typical american (all the gear but no idea)
@RemZone79 Actually, the Hood did not cripple Bismarck. Torpedoes from planes did. Interesting- people talk about how difficult it was to sink, when it was [relatively] easy to disable. Other German heavies had similar damage - probably a design flaw.
It was Hood's great misfortune to not have updated armor (obsolete WW1 design) because the Brits needed so many ships in action for it empire around the world. And in that engagement-Prince of Wales' new fancy quad turrets failed also.
@supergarand : At least HMS Hood had the balls to face a superior enemy and she wasn't a battleship!! She was a WWI outdated battlecruiser but because she was one of the fastest capital ships in the British fleet she was order to intercept the Bismarck urgently who was secretly attempting to brake loose into the Atlantic and she had to be stopped to !! The American battleships non of them had the balls to face the Yamato or Musashi!! Instead the American send planes to bomb and torpedo them!!
i think that the USS New Jersey should be number one because i served on her and because out of all the ships in the video besides the aircraft carrier she was the only one that didn't sink
wow..you served on the new jersey..i envy you...my dad is a retired BMC...i remember that ship...miss her too...damn shame cruise missiles forced her into mothball...or is she a museum...the didn't even save the big-E....SHE WAS SCRAPPED.....
Good video;] i think the hood shouldn't have been on the list though it was the pride of the British Navy but i sunk. the aircraft carrier was an OK choice, but why don't you make a top 5 aircraft carriers?
@brassybiotch HMS Hood was the BEST in Naval warfare of the Pacific for the sheer fact that she was the fastest battle cruiser of her time. max speed maintained was 31 knots (28 knots in 1941 due to over armaments) , that was considered ungodly fast for a battle cruiser. her only flaw was her deck plating which fell victim to the Bismark's 16 inch guns. She was still a beautiful boat and it was a sad day when she went to her watery grave taking 1,415 brave sailors with her T.T
nice song!!

Ahem, besides that, HMS Hood wasn't even considered a Battle-ship, but instead a Battle-cruiser due to its thin deck armor...

And btw, why wasn't HMS Rodney, HMS Prince of Wales and HMS dreadnought in?

Yeah you are right, the USS New Jersey served in a couple of wars, i guess it would be a good warship to be in the top 3 at least.
Joshisourfriend 2 years ago 4
Agreed, however Yamato was plain unlucky, Bismarck as well. Well Hood, it did a pretty good job though it sank, by a feared ship after all.

The HMS Hood was a Battle Cruiser. It was built built to secure speed and fuel capacity at the expense of armor and battery strength.

The Hood is on your list? All it did was get sunk. What about the Rodney? or the KGC Duke of York?
