stupid!!!!! it is a backcourt!! your feet have to be on the back side of the court to catch the ball on the backcourt if he wouldof catched the ball on the other side then brought it up then yeah its fine but he didnt
Ok so everyone tries to debunk the backcourt predicament fine. What explains the referee right in front of him taking three steps? That s a travel. Maybe refs will barely ever let you get away with one step, but 3? And theres no defensive players around him to possibly distract the referee he was alone clear as day.
@StuartJames34 Here's why you're WRONG. He can catch the ball in the backcourt is he is established there, but he never established himself in the backcourt. He jumped from the frontcourt (where he was established), caught the ball in mid-air, and landed in the back court. Because he was established in the front court and never established himself in the back court, IT IS A BACK COURT VIOLATION.
I understand why you don't know the subtleties of the rule, but why don't the refs?
Heat shot 50 ft's Dallas 25 ft's and that was like that the whole series, D whistle was living on the line, every little touch was called, and Stack suspened for that hard foul on Shaq lol.
This is frustrating to a Mavs fan because if Wade had been called for the travel, 3 steps, then the ball would have been turned over to the Mavs. And with 9.1 seconds left and up by 1. The mavs could have run a little of the clock, and gotten foul shots. IF both shots were made, then the lead is 3, if 1 then up by 2, and none, nothing changes. The favor is in for Dallas if that call was made, it seems like no big deal but if this call had been made, Dallas could have won.
that was a backcourt violation, because, wade caught the ball in front..then he steps back. The 2 minute rule exists, but the ball was caught then he goes back. There was a backcourt violation AND a travel.
ok good point but that would mean he is considered to have possession of the ball even if he hasn't landed yet. in resetting 24 second shot clock for example it doesn't go like that. if u lose the ball before you come down and it goes out of bounds, the seconds on the shot clock stay the same
Rule 8, Section 1- "For location of a player in the air, his position is that from which he last touched the floor."
Clearly a backcourt violation according to the rule. He was established in the frontcourt; in addition to that, the ball was caught in the frontcourt but carried into the backcourt because he caught in the air. I'm not a Mavs fan, and Wade is one of my favorite players, but it was a backcourt violation.
im a mavs fan and it wasnt a backcourt violation. yes he crossed the line with the ball in his hands, but you are not considered to have possession of the ball until you land.
Its not a backcourt you dumbasses. Do you guys play any real basketball?

It wasn't a backcourt. However, he did take three steps after landing before dribbling.

If his feet were in the air, does that mean that he was already in his part of the court? So he crossed the line with the ball in his hands.

his feet were in the air when he caught the ball, he also landed in the back court, there was no violation at all, are you an upset Mav fan?
