I would never have my son circumcised. Circumcision damaged my penis. It resulted in a loss of normal sexual function, loss of sensitivity, a dry keratinized glans, an ugly scar, as well as ongoing emotional problems including depression. No one should have to suffer as I have. Stop mutilating normal healthy babies' genitals. There is no good reason for it. Only myths, lies and excuses.

The new World Health Organization policy statement on Infant Prepuce Excision Surgery recommendation "The benifits of an education on hygiene can replace all the potential benifits of infant excision surgery of the male and female prepuce. The naturally evolved functions of the healthy male and female prepuce include sexual pleasure, and forced circumcision upon infants is a human rights violation. The recommendations of the AAP are a wishy washy mishmash of unethical medical practice. How on earth can the parents determine what is in the best interest of their child when determing the outcome of his adult penis. It is impossible. There is no scientific basis for circumcising a baby, there is no way to predict what his penis will be like as an adult, intact or cut. Doctors don't amputate body parts because of "potential" problems. Why continue with amputating foreskin, it is illogical.

This video seriously makes me NOT want to go be anywhere near that NICU. I don't want to have my child anywhere near where they're taking children who have barely managed to survive and risking their lives again by circumcising them. In Florida, a mother left her son, Mario Delgado, alone, trusting he'd be safe, and when she came back, she found him circumcised against her express wishes. Josh Haskins lost his life to a circumcision just out of NICU. Sharp NICU? Ew. No thanks.

Would hospital staff be encouraged to visit girls' circumcisions? I hope not. Indeed, I would hope that hospital staff who were aiding and abetting the genital mutilation of girls would be reported to the appropriate authorities, just like those mutilating boys should be, and will be one day soon.

Why on earth are we even talking about performing unnecessary surgery, amputating a working body part off of fragile infants??? I can hardly believe that people still do it this day in age, especially on NICU babies :*( Why advertise that? It's sick. The studies show that even IF any anesthetic is used it is woefully inadequate (babies FEEL PAIN of circumcision), not to mention that baby will be without a foreskin for the rest of his life, even if there are no "complications."

Sickening that nurses who helped save their lives should consider attending a little NICU survivor's bris! :'( Nurse should know better than that, to encourage parents to have their son's penis surgically altered for cosmetic or religious reasons.We wouldn't cut a baby girl, why a baby boy?! A Christening, however, does no long-term harm. Please suggest a peaceful bris SHALOM ceremony instead!

@MsFranny7 Sharp HealthCare staff and affiliated doctors follow the recommendations of the American Pediatric Academy. The Academy recommends that parents be given information about the benefits and risks of the procedure and decide what will be best for their child. In addition, when circumcision is performed, physicians use appropriate pain control. The baby's comfort is a top priority at Sharp.

The AAP isn't about to stop recommending circ because it's the cash cow of much of the medical industry that doctors and hospitals and clinics just like yours get paid hand over fist to do and promote, especially the ones who get money for selling the discarded foreskins.

Last year the AAP tried to "recommend" a "ritual nick" for girls. Are you aware of that? Would you have "followed the AAP's recommendations" -then?- If the baby's comfort is a "top priority at Sharp," WHY ON EARTH are you even performing NON-THERAPUTIC SURGERY ON A CHILD WHO HAS JUST RECOVERED??? The AAP also says in their statement that parents are not to be coerced. Do you keep quiet or do you nonchalantly advertize by asking each parent of a boy?

Are you aware that the AAP says that there is not enough evidence for them to recommend the procedure? Are you aware that there is no medical organization in the world, in or outside the US that recommends it? Are you aware that the attitude on circumcision is overwhelmingly negative in the West? Tell us, how does it make ANY SENSE to be giving "evidence" of "pros and cons" to parents that major medical organizations were not able to use to come to any reasonable conclusion?

@sharpwebcenter : Sorry, I disagree. There is no such thing as a painless circumcision. My own son spent FOUR months in NICU with severe MAS, PPH,a pneumothorax, PFO, the works. He was intubated, then cpap, then hi-flow 02 the entire time. That is where I first witnessed circumcisions, typically the day before discharge..."JUST IN CASE", right? Because you know there can be complications, and there are. Ten out of ten babies oppose circumcision. It is their penis. Not their parents'! His body!

If anything, I would expect you to enlighten parents that if they are Christian, they must NOT circumcise, as it is against the New Testament. @sharpwebcenter - First off, it's the American Academy of Pediatrics. If you're so concerned with their opinion, you might have bothered to learn that. You're also twisting their words. They flat out say "Existing scientific evidence demonstrates potential medical benefits of newborn male circumcision; however, these data are not sufficient to recommend routine neonatal circumcision."

Second, Who is the patient? I'm pretty sure it's the child, so why are you performing elective surgery on him without his permission?

If the comfort of your patient was a top priority, you wouldn't be slicing up his penis without his consent. It's really a pretty obvious situation if you aren't blinded by stupidity.
