Those birds are at my work and I cannot scare them away with a water hose (not that I would squirt one) but the splash does not scare them a very high pressure hose. They dig in coal piles looking for moths.. Here in Wyoming.
It was a weird thing to see her because on one hand it is exciting to see a rare bird, but on the other you know her chances of surviving the winter in NS are pretty low.
I just watched it. Nice video. Poor thing, she looks lonely. As with most bird species, the females got a little short changed on color. I like the bright yellow heads on the males.

these yellow-headed blackbirds are somewhat rare where i live in Illinois.
They must be really common out west! How did they come so close to you? They're practically feeding like house sparrows!

Are they very common in Nova Scotia? I've never seen them east of the Mississippi in the US. But perhaps their range is expanding.

Very rare here. My sighting was the first recorded sighting in NS for 7 years! I caught her on videotape, and you can see it in my profile.
