Where have all the cabooses gone?

We have a caboose at our local children's museum. And there's another decorating a small diner.

cabooses and steamers were the best things ever.... modern day all they care about is "Diesel technolegy " wich is gay .... steamers and cabooses were awesome to see even tho i have only seen like 3 cabooses on a ns coal train and a museum ... and ive seen plenty steamers

I miss those old steel cabooses... even the small transfer cabooses MoPac & the J would have. Or how about the variety Penn Central had... that was a treat. Thanx.

marodude752002, I agree, cabooses should be brought back. But, in some places, they have never left! There's a few shortline, and a ton of tourist railroads which still use cabooses. But bringing the caboose back on the class I and regional railroads would rock! The freight train brakeman died out with the caboose, that occupation might come back if the caboose returned to order.
