There was also one historical figure who was killed in a theatre and displayed in imago on a cross (tropaeum) and was considered to be a godman. His name was Julius Caesar. Subsequently ALL the deceased Emperors who were deified were displayed on crosses in like manner. (Justin Martyr, 1 Apology 55; Tertullian, Apology 9, 12 & 16; Minucius Felix, Octavius 29) Such displays could not help but influence the innumerable mystery religions at the time including one new one, Chrest- or Christ-ianity.
It sorta seems like a whole bunch of ancient oral legends were eventually put to paper, the early church fathers picked and chose the stories they favored. Bits and pieces of actual history were the backbone upon which a bunch of myths and allegories were attached.
These days this practice is a popular literary style called "Historical Fiction".
Most stories of people who are similar to Jesus were written much later than the Gospels. However, where people screw up is the stories of these fake messiah's take place in the years around Jesus;s life. It would be like writting a story in 2009, but your story takes place in the 1300's. It wasn't written in the 1300's, but it takes place then. The same fact can be applied to these other messiah's. They weren't written durring the time of Jesus nor did those people live at that time.
LOL, Muslims rather blatantly jump on the bandwagon when it comes to Christianity but fail to realize their beliefs fall into the same pit. Religion is a trap for one and all who are idiotic enough to subscribe to this delusion. Fools one and all.
Considering that the man speaking in this video is a strong proponent of Atheism and secular humanism I honestly didn't expect him to be used in defense of Islam. I have pretty much always agreed with price, but until you read his writtings about his experiences with religions (including secular ones) and why he rejects the whole notion of religion you can't really understand the importance of what he is saying in this video. He argues with much the same logic about the nature of the Hadiths.

Amazing how people can go through life not being a bit curious or even sceptical about anything.
