I am a HUGE advocate of freespeech, even the retarded upchuck kind, but I have boundries, I do not and will not allow anyone to argue without good cause on my educational videos. This is because free speech of the ignorant kind has no place here, defense appreciated but unecessary.

  • @winnerdude250 Well I think they were working off the idea that computers process memory a bit like your digestive track processes food, that is in semi-random CHUNKS... and we all know chunks relate to food, also the only thing nerdy types tend to have laying around for inspiration is a cup of java and maybe a donut or cookie, and yes they probably were hungry, most nerds are skinny and hungry because they're workaholics.

  • at the start u said a nyble was 1101 but a nyble is 4 bits ( 100) 1101 is 13

  • @LOGIESPZ The reason for that is the illistration is trying to represent 4 individual bits rather than 1101 equating to an actual nyble of information. I admit that it's very poorly executed as are many other parts of the video.

    The purpose was to simplify the understanding of binary to a point that an ordinary average person could understand why computers use only 0's and 1's, rather than be a complete tutorial on computer science.

    24,000+ people seem to have found this good enough.

    Yes, they do. They make perfect sense.

    The only thing that really makes sense to a computer is on and off. A CPU will interpret electrical signals as high voltage (ON) and low voltage (OFF). Beyond that is transistors and logic gates. then you can control the flow of electricity.

  • Counting in binary is very easy. Seriously, almost as easy as base 10 0 1 (now we run out of number so we add a column) 10 11 (now we run out of number so we add a column) 100 101 110 111 (now we run out of number so we add a column) etc....

    Your binary string is malformed and not divisible by 8, it's not even proper.

    Almost nobody will convert binary from ascii by themselves, they are using converters.

I know it's like the most raw thing but like how do these one and zeros equalling numbers make things like words or whatever they do?

  • They make strings of numbers 123 158.. which corrospond to letters and have a specific place in code, hence the "text box" and is built into the operating system... standards are set for the industry to follow and it manifests in most computers.

  • BOOLEAN isn't the same as BOOL in C++. When talking yes. BOOL are just ints. TRUE is 1 and FALSE is 0; BOOLEANS are BYTES.

    Boolean literally means true of false and a bool data type can hold 1 binary bit, true or false.

  • binary can convert to base 10 numeral systems.

    all the basic base 10 numbers have binary equivalents. it's the same exact mathematical system but a different representation.. it's "reduction" literally to make the mechanical process simpler and faster.

    what would really mess your mind is how algorithms work to describe seemingly complex systems as rather redundant formulas and that binary files must be padded because they operate as a single enormous number.

    what can you make with loads of flickering lights? make a tv or monitor yes? now take that to an infinite dimension of complexity thats self complicating.. there you have a modern computer.

  • pixels can be within ranges of colors.. 16 32 256 16 million. all converted to binary and calculated using several passes of the cpu. color is built into the GPU graphics card/chip. the cpu is makes billions of calculations per second these multiple rapid computations require the binary reduction and also allow it to work at a speed we think is constant. the human eye can see 30 frames per second each frame is one loop in a program. your pc can read and execute millions lines of code instantly.

  • it's more complex then just 1, 0, W and voltage.

    imagine a model file. it has coordinates of where it's faces line up on the texture. it has coordinates of where it is in relative space. it has all sorts of normal maths and sometimes shader or other effects.

    now calculate all that seperately. but first convert it to binary to the "transistors" (on off switches) can read it and calculate the outcome of loads of converted math equations formulas and algorithms. :)

    8bits actually make a number up to 255 + 0 = 256.

    just to mention a few.. it's still a good tutorial informationally but to futher our education we must know these other facts.

  • Can I add the simplest way to use binary is from left to right get the highest number within the table that goes into the number you need and then go backwards from their finding the next highest number that goes into the remainder and so on. The table is 128,64,32,16,8,4,2,1 and there you have it 8 bits to a byte. Google ASCII American Standard Code for information interchange. Each number represents a letter and thats how letters come from binary.
