I live in Toronto and I had a '57 back in 1963. In the winter I would have problems starting the car. After experimenting I found out I needed to take both hands and pull the choke a way out. That solved the problem.
Yes thank you for BOLDLY explaining only when to press the clutch. Only a Mentally ill fucking retared who likes to fuck his mother and eat his dads ass hole would EVER and MEAN ever RIDE THE CLUTCH or rape it in any way what so ever!!!!! You get idiots that say the clutch burns every 6 months. My Clutch is the same clutch the car came with 22 years ago
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so Also keeps carbs/injection and tank clean and rustfree!
This is also the recommended way to start a 1500 Midget. I don't know if the A has the same problem, but what I was told is it eases pressure on the thrust washer on the crank. The 1500cc motor in the Midget only has a semicircular thrust washer, and is a weak point for the longevity of the engine.
ur wrong u have no clue. Starting an mga is simple. Turn the engine over 5-10 times if it if cold without ignition on. Then turn ignition on with choke all the way out as soon as it fires put the choke in and let it warm up with NO CHOKE running with choke can make you distributor funky and make your spark plugs crusty with oil
Same procedure for an MG TD (and I'm assuming TF too, since it's between TD and A). People don't believe me when I explain how to start a TD, so thank you John!
it looks like every one has no idea how to do any thing anymore.this is how i drove for 20 years.love my mga and triumph tr3 still have them.take a ride with me in my tr3 on youtube
I've tried this, and it pretty much makes no difference, you're car will start. Technically with the car in neutral the flyweel is connected to the idler gear which adds resistence, but it doesn't really matter.
I don't think John is saying that it makes a difference when starting the car, I think he is saying you shouldn't get in the habit of using the clutch and the related assembly except when needed since it wears the release bearing etc...
It usually doesn't take this long. What's up with all these steps? My MG Midget is like a modern car. Turn the key step on the gas slightly and go~ Probably because mine is fully restored.

is this the starting procedure for most classic MGs? I've got a 48 TC and I'm just wondering.
